So for some ungodly reason I watched the EA press conference. It just made me feel bad, honestly. Pretty cringey stuff.

They really had nothing to show other than Anthem and a new C&C mobile game that is just flame bait for any fan of the Westwood original. And I guess news that Respawn is working on a Star Wars game. But they didn't even have like a logo screen or anything.

The Anthem stuff was just puzzling too. Like it looked fine. A very pretty looking Warframe ripoff. But they said all kinds of stuff like "You can play it single player, but multiplayer is really the best way". The no lootbox stuff is good news but they also really drove home that it's a games as a service type of thing. And they claim the single player story is there but I feel like they're lying or at least massaging the truth. I mean, Gameinformer already broke that their will be no NPC romance aspect to it. So I have a really hard time believe what's there is going to have the depth they are pretending it does.

Microsoft had a hell of a conference. Most of it was stuff for next year but still they showed they really are going full bore on restarting first party development. And redoublling thier efforts to actively pursue 3rd parties. Which is great news for everybody.

Bethesda won E3 already.... again. Prey Mooncrash already being released, Wolfenstein II DLC coming. Rage 2, sequel to DOOM. It was assumed that they were working on ES6 already, but teasing it along with Starfield. Wew.

Was never really a Fallout fan, but the new game looks interesting too.Though I understand people upset thinking it was a standard Fallout game.

Bethesda definitely wins on style. Substance wise though I'd probably give it to Microsoft still.

I am a huge Fallout fan and I now kind of see what they're trying to do with 76 but at the same time it doesn't sound like something I personally will be all that interested in. It sounds like basically a huge Fallout multiplayer sandbox. Which is something I'm sure some people will love but I play those games for narrative and immersion. And it sounded like their may not even be any storyline NPCs in the game. Which is a deal breaker for me.

Rage 2 looked kind of awesome though. I wasn't really sure what to expect from that but it reminded me of Bulletstorm. Which peaks my interest in a big way.

Microsoft had a larger quantity and a lot of good stuff, but that was an XBOX conference first and foremost to me. And I don't personally care about their console, as the majority of it will be on PC anyways and a lot of it on PS4 as well. Cyberpunk 2077, Metro Exodus, and Dying Light 2 are incredible looking and at the top of the list for me, but they were probably shown there because Microsoft paid them more than Sony. Not because they had anything to do with those games, so it feels weird to give them much credit for them. Same with Sekiro and the new Tomb Raider. Everything else they showed isn't even slated to be released this year, save for Forza, maybe? The news of them acquiring Ninja Theory, Undead Labs, and Compulsion Games is cool I guess... but who knows what will come of that yet.

Yeah, I'd be skeptical about playing through 76 solo and it being a holistic experience. Reminds me of a lot of the skepticism surrounding Anthem.

That trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 looks awesome - although nothing was really shown, I am a huge fan of the artistic direction they are going with their 'future'.

Also, following what they did with The Witcher 3, they have earned a little more trust as a studio [to me at least] to actually deliver on a solid product at the end of all this.

Guess I do actually have games to look forward to playing.

Wonder how Bethesda will do the Starfield - I really hope that it isn't too 'clean'.
They lost me a little with how they've been handling the Elder Scrolls games, but perhaps they'll do this one better than they did Skyrim [I hope, at least, that the world will feel a little more 'lived in' and not 'entirely reliant on one hero to fix all their shit'].

Yeah Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Cyberpunk 2077 and Metro are cool and all, but honestly I am pretty excited for the new IP from From Software. I wonder why they chose Activision as their publisher though, seems like an odd choice.

Sekiro is basically what I wanted the new Tenchu to be ;-; (just with a weaker main character, forcing you to rely on stealth). Hoping hardcore they SOMEHOW make it part of the Tenchu Universe, hinting for a future sequel.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice?

It looks cool, very much so. I love all things samurai/ninja/etc.
Not read/heard much about that game, however.

I really hope it's not just a brutal punishing slog game - I played through dark souls, and enjoyed it, but I'm not sure that I'd want to do it again... not any time soon anyway.

I'd love a new Tenchu game.

For a while, I held out hope for an Assassin's creed Japan.
Now, I'm less excited by it. That series has got hella stale for me.

Which games you guys most looking forward to [from the presentations]?

I think, I've made it pretty clear what I'm looking forward to - however, I didn't actually have time to watch the shows this time, so probably missed a lot of interesting projects (Sekiro being a prime example).

Ah, I have mostly been following the project now known as Sekiro (that I was hoping would be a Tenchu Souls game, got almost it :shakefist ) and looking forward to wtv Nintendo will show (they have a lot to work with).

A bit disappointed with the direction Beth's taking with Fallout. Since the reveal that it was expected to be a game like this, so the e3 trailer of 76 didnt surprise me. They acknowledged Fallout 4 didn't please the fans (and Beth itself, but had the game been reviewed super nicely they wouldn't had said a thing) and instead of making a game closer to new vegas they double down on the "casual" aspect and make adult minecraft with their ip.

Ah, Tenchu. I loved those games.

Though the game I'm hoping to fill that void is Ghosts of Tsukishima. One of the many awesome games Sony is expected to show.

Sony is in funny position here because they have so much. Days Gone, obviously. Spiderman, definitely. Ghosts of Tsukishima, probably. Last of Us 2, maybe. Red Dead Redemption 2, almost certainly (because of the announced timed DLC exclusivity deal). And that's just the obvious stuff.

I'm with you in the sense that Fallout 76 is probably not a game I will play. But I do know a lot of Fallout fans who for years have been asking for a game like this. Since Fallout 3. So I think this will make them extremely happy. It doesn't do much for me though. I want RPGs not multiplayer action games.

I also think this is a stopgap. Supposedly the team taking the lead on this is the Bethesda Austin. Who were the ones working on the now cancelled BattleCry game. The Maryland Studio is the Todd Howard team. And I imagine they're mostly working on Starfield.

Which I'm stoked for because EA murdered Mass Effect and possibly Bioware. So there is a big opening for Sci-Fi RPGs right now.

I'm not a Microsoft guy either. The last Xbox console I bought was the original Xbox in order to play Oblivion and KOTOR. But I also think they were in the biggest hole. And the ton of Gears of War stuff along with the all the other game trailers and announcements and the Cyberpunk trailer is huge for them. I feel like what they really had to do was come out and imply they realize they need bring their fans more games. And not like mid tier stuff like Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2, and Cup head either. Like real tent pole games like Sony is getting out there. And I think they succeeded wonderfully at that.

And, yeah, I feel like anybody going into either Anthem or Fallout 76 expecting story at the level either studio is known for are going to be very disappointed.

The difference is still that Sony has a ton of big ones that aren't multiplatform. Aside from Halo, GoW, and Forza, what else does the Xbox have incoming that are going to be killer apps for people?

I thought Ubisoft was just okay. BG&E2 looked great, and Skull and Bones is interesting. But other than that, I just didn't really care. No Splinter Cell was a pretty big disappointment to me.

Well, I agree that Sony should blow Microsoft out of the water. Without a new Fable game or huge new IP there isn't much they can do about that.

The new Assassin's Creed game looked fantastic to me. I gave up on the franchise many games ago but this one excites me in a big way.

Specifically that it's set in Greece and Sparta and that it's much more of an RPG than any previous game. With full on branching dialogue and romance options. It's funny because it seems like Bioware has been copying Assassin's Creed style open world games for a while now. Yet Ubisoft seems like they are copying the Witcher with this new game. A Witcher 3 style Assassin's Creed game? Hell yes!!! I'll play the crap out of that.

Did you play Origins? I think rebooting it in the way they did was an odd choice. Doesn't mean it isn't a good game or anything. But if the focus is supposed to be on actual Assassins and stealth gameplay, it seems like they lost their way a long time ago to me. But it's hard to resist making a game in that kind of setting, I bet.

Not that the series was ever the best example of historical accuracy, there were a lot of things with Odyssey that seemed way off to me... :grumble

No. I didn't play Origins. I haven't played any of the games since about an hour of Black Flag years ago.

I was never a fan of the Assassin's Creed gameplay. Used to play for the story but when Desmond died and it had that putrid end to his plotline in Assassin's Creed 4 I was just finished. Origins sounded fine but I don't care about Egyptian history and the plotline they were selling with that game did nothing for me. Stealth action and quasi historical gibberish blended with Sci-Fi isn't my flavor.

An RPG about a cast out Spartan wielding an alien artifact spearhead in ancient Greece with like mythological monsters and stuff. And you get your own warship you can crew up; which I can hopefully name "The Normandy". Now we're talkin'. All that sounds fun to me.
