Might be a bit late in asking, but anyone else played or are playing Path of Exile? I never got into it prior to 3.0, but have dumped about a 100 hours into it over the last month and a half or so. It's been a good experience, scratching that old Diablo 2 itch I had from when I was a kid.

I looked at it - them fond Diablo 1 + 2 memories.
But was so put off by Diablo 3 that I haven't touched that style of game recently..

Too busy with other things at the moment - Divinity Original Sin 2 is pretty sweet

I think I played about 10-15 hours of Path of the Exile. Great game but I shifted back over to Warframe. That's kind of my go to when I'm in the mood for hack and slash type games these days. Seemed like it had a ton of depth though.

Like Zimbardo, I'm all about Divinity 2 right now. Probably will be for a while. The game is absolutely amazing. Reminds me so much of the first time I played Baldur's Gate 2. Except this is actually better. It's like a "Game of the Year" level of good. Even with all the amazing games we've already gotten this year.

What class or build types have you gone with in your party. There are so many options I find myself rolling lots of characters just so I can try different things out.

Nothing that unique - rolling a Dwarf Warrior.

Speciality talking to animals, being rude to everyone and fucking up anything which doesn't walk/crawl on 4 legs.
Trying to do the whole game without using magic/source.

Plan to play again with a friend/friends though, so will probably try out the awesome magic system when I do that (and I may leave a few more guys alive, to actually see what the story is actually about)

Sounds fun. The story is good. At least Act 1 was.

I've been going custom character human wizard. With Pyro and Geo. Pretty much all magic. With Sabille(rogue), Loshe(enchanter), and Beast(battlemage). Pretty classic fantasy party.

May restart with an all origin character party and something a little more unconventional build wise.

You think it's worth playing my next character (a mage) as a pure DPS, or a character which applies a load of curses to a target?

Wiz(z)ard, Enchanter, Battlemage seems to give you a lot more experience with how magic works than I currently have...

If there is one thing which I can call a negative (albeit really quite a minor one) is that I feel it isn't too easy to make anything all that 'unconventional' - at least, from a cursory glance at the character creator, it appeared to be that way.

Yeah, Diablo 3 never really grabbed me. PoE being f2p but not pay2win at all also makes it rather attractive to me. Also helps that this latest expansion seems to be even bigger than the base game, and that the endgame has a really low barrier to entry, but is also deeper than most MMOs.

Well from Act 2 on you get a magic mirror that allows you to fully respec, only thing you can't change is your race, so after that point you can really play around with not only your character but all your companions.

In terms of what's worth playing that's going to be all about what kind of battlefield you want to create. Magic in Divinity is all about that.

I recommend Hydro + Aero. That's pretty balanced. It gives you some of everything. Aero is damage, crowd control, and several teleportation options. Hydro is magic armor restoration, healing, and with moderate crowd control and damage. In combat you will typically get things wet with Rain then shock or freeze them.

Pyro is the AOE damage king. But it's also hard to manage. Because when you set everything on fire, your companions and yourself included, things tend to spin out control. Especially because the school has zero CC options.

Geo is a great all around school but I think it's actually better on a melee/mage hybrid than a pure mage. Because the damage options aren't as good as the other schools. It's more about setting things up for Pyro to obliterate with oil or poison which can cut both ways. Unless your going undead, in which case combine it with Hydro and poison everything while healing yourself.

Necromancer goes really well with a lot of different things. Especially melee. If you feel like playing a battlemage this is a good option. Gets you innate life leech too.

Polymorphy goes with just about everything. And every level gets you a free attribute point.

The Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer and released window of spring 2018 were put out there today.

Looks like it's going for a more villainous main character this time. Not sure how i feel about that. Usually westerns are all about the gunfighter on the path to redemption. Still going to play the absolute crap out of it though.

I wish the new Shadow of War game that has everybody hyped had a competitive online mode. The gameplay really does look cool but without the live competition between players, I just don't think I'd enjoy for very long.

Ah, TB played a bit with Markus Kruber (a guy with a huge hammer) much better... He also has a repeater rifle, but can't have everything in a video demo, eh?

So normally I only buy and play multiplayer games but last night I decided to buy the new Assassin's Creed. Now I'm returning it.....I mean I've only played it for a few minutes and it's not that it's bad. It's just way too long. Between the cut scenes and the big ass map, I could already tell it would be a commitment, and I'm the type of player that's gotta search every corner and crevice of that room before leaving in case I miss some rare loot.

It's also kinda reaffirmed the reason I really only play multiplayers. Usually quicker to pick up and you can just jump online, destroy a few foo's and call it a day without needing to spend the rest of your life on games like this, The Witcher or Shadow of War. Ain't nobody got time for these 100+ hour games. Dark Souls might be the only exception for me but even then I'm not sure I'd be willing to dump 50+ hours into that anymore.

A huge problem with most AAA games these days is that the design is centered around prolonged engagement. It's not enough to sell 5 different versions of a game, a season pass, etc. They also need to artificially lengthen games to the point of boredom. AAA Devs not only require more money, they want more of your time... and it can be exhausting. A game could be full-priced, a 20 hour experience and you'd get no complaints from me. Instead they think every game needs to be 50+ hours long without side missions.

I'm the opposite of you @Freid. As I find I'm more and more of a single player only guy but for similar reasons to you and @xi0, I think.

What I don't have time, or money, for is all the lootbox's and unnecessary padding intended to feed into the microtransations and dlc and whatnot. I don't even look at games like Assasin's Creed, Battlefront, Shadow of Mordor and Destiny 2 anymore. Because in terms of time or money it's just not worth it to me.

I got no problem playing long games but I want to feel like I got something for my investment. If it's an experience that's watered down I'm less and less willing to accept that because it gives me so much less for the time I put in.

Like I'm still playing Divinity Original Sin 2. Have been for over a hundred hours. But it's got it's hooks in me because it feels like there is no filler in it. It's all classic RPG goodness.

Next I'll probably go to either Wolfenstien or Elex(I loved the Gothic games jankyness and all). But none of the big AAA titles in the remainder of this year do much of anything for me.

I played through the New Order and liked it quite a bit. Old Blood is the expansion that came after right? I didn't play that one.

Yeah, it was an "expandalone" basically. A prequel, not really necessary to the story though.

I have about 8 hours into Wolfenstein II, really enjoyable. Pretty much everything that made The New Order great, but improved upon in some subtle ways.

Because of how good the original was, and I had zero expectations of it at the time, I pretty much just assumed the new one would be as good or better. MachineGames just really knows what they're doing with that series.

Well I did love the KOTOR series so my faith isn't shaken besides they'll have frostbite 3 and now I hear the creator of the AC series has been fired that's crazy I have to wonder why.

So I guess Sony is doing a little damage control on their ultra dark ultra violent Last of Us 2 trailer.

I'm kind of divided on it, personally.

On the one hand it's Last of Us 2 what did they expect? On the other, it was over the top. What they showed was just violence with no context. Which just isn't what's good about the Last of Us. It's the context that's important. So I feel like they were trying to shock people and I don't care for that.
