The Epic Games deal is signed. There's no going back on that 6 months of exclusivity on PC. However, they could have charged for this. I would have paid $15 to play it. Instead they are giving it away to get some positive buzz for Borderlands 3. And I think they'll get it.

Say what you will about their platform decisions on PC but a free DLC like this is pretty cool.
$15? How big is it really? :blink

Sure, but it's just further proof that 2K/Take Two has no problem fracturing their playerbase for a fat check. Not that I'm surprised, I guess. I'll be curious how they spin the sales figures though, because as of right now you still can't even preorder the thing on EGS since they removed it after the EGS sale debacle. Which is also the same reason you can't preorder VtMB2 there anymore either since Paradox pulled it.

Also, I had to laugh at Crystal Dynamics putting out Anthem 2.... sorry, I mean Avengers. :kappa

Not sure how I feel about the game being split into two parts. I get that it's more of an RE2-scale remake and the first part is supposedly huge anyways... but the story of a remake being split into two parts still feels pretty lame.

Also, the FF8 remaster, kind of a letdown. Especially after showing the FF7 Remake. The rumors about them remaking FF8 seemed to only be kinda true. FF8 Remaster is you, FF7 Remake is the guy she told you not to worry about. :lmao

Seems like the same size as the other DLC so far. Which were all $15 when they released. I'm nowhere near done with it naturally.

The PC sales are definitely going to take a hit just like Metro's probably did but have the console sales be unaffected. But in 6 months there will probably be a steam release and they'll recoup much of that too.

I'm wondering if the Epic lets their Unreal cut slide on the console releases too. Because I struggle to see how Epic could make it worth it for 2k and Gearbox otherwise. The PR hit from that definitely hasn't done perception of the game any favors. Like if all that hadn't gone so wrong, I wonder if we'd be getting this DLC for free.

Have they said it's just going to be two parts? I'm assuming more. Just because, as I remember it, Midgar is like the first 10-15 hours of FF7. Which is a 70 hour game. So I'm not sure what they're thinking with that.

I can see from the trailer they're adding a ton of stuff that already rubs me the wrong way. Like why is Cloud talking with Sephiroth? Your not supposed to meet Sepheroth for a long time in FF7 which helps to build up tension as you chase him down and see all the things he leaves in his wake.

If it's the same size as the previous ones, then it probably wouldn't have been free IMO. That does seem like the type of PR move you'd see. Same with how Metro Exodus was $10 cheaper after the move to EGS.

I also found it funny how Pitchford was completely absent from E3 presentations. Seems like they finally wised up, the dude has had some really bad months lately.

It seems vague. Apparently people have said they wanted to do three parts, then that was backtracked, then it was broadly episodic, and now most people are saying 2? I mean, hopefully it'll be clarified. The natural midway point of the game was always the end of Disc 1 in the original, which would probably work well as a cliffhanger for people who never played.

Yeah it's a good point. They did say that this would "expand" upon the original, so there could be a lot of new stuff in it. I'm also somewhat iffy on the combat because I didn't necessarily like FFXV's all that much.

"At E3 Kitase explained the game would take place in two parts, over two Blu-Ray discs, but did not indicate these parts would be released at different times. "

Yeah, I guess I didn't miss anything. We still don't know wtf is going on.

I took that to mean just the Midgar part would be taking place over 2 Blue-Ray discs.

To be honest, I'm not sure how you divide up FF7. Midgar is a fairly solid Act 1 separating point. Then things get complicated because Act 2 and the chase for Sephiroth is all one thing right up until Cloud gets taken out of action. Then there is a whole other part after fixing Cloud's crazy ass. Then comes the finale. So that's four. But that would make Act 2 crazy long relative to the other parts. Unless they trim it down or split it at the Aeris part. Which is too many parts. If they try and do it that way the full thing is never ever coming out.

So... yeah.

Anyone know how Witcher 3 would run on the Switch? @Jammin maybe? I‘d maybe give the game another try with the Switch flexibility, but wouldn‘t the bad combat get even worse in lower fps? Hm.

Excited for the BOTW sequel! :zomg
I hope it‘s not just more of the same we saw in first game. Was seriously burned out from the first game at some point, so I hope they do more exciting things with the sequel than just „go explore again“.

Are you trolling me or legitimately asking a question? Not sure with the way you worded that last part.

Legit question, but also referencing the last witcher related talk we had.

In that case, I don't know.

Even at a considerable graphical downgrade, it's still one of the best RPGs of all time. Is it going to be as good as other versions? Almost certainly not. How much that matters to you is your call.

Will it still be one of the best RPGs on Switch, if not the best one? Probably.

If all they do is downgrade the graphics while keeping good enough performance that shouldn‘t be a big issue. I‘m more afraid it may get downgraded in every way, performance too. But guess we‘ll need to wait for further trailers and info to come out, they did say it‘ll come out this year already so should have info coming about it soon enough.

The preview they showed of it during the Direct looked really jank. I'm not sure if that was of it in portable or docked mode though. Might be a case where waiting for reviews to really see.

I'm actually kind of annoyed at Nintendo constantly putting themselves in a disadvantage in the performance area. It maybe makes more sense this generation because Switch also needs to be able to be used as a handheld too... but meh

They like their consoles having some main gimmick to revolve around, and I guess that makes it impossible to have both that and compete with other consoles in the performance area? But yeah..

I wouldn't be shocked if it runs better than Skyrim does. Just because Bethesda sucks at optimization almost as much as they do bug testing.

But in some of the later more epic battle scenes I feel like it's going to be pretty noticeable that this game was originally made for more powerful hardware. I don't see any way around that.

New Elden Ring info. Looks like Martin just wrote the mythology of the game.

That's actually a good thing from my perspective. Usually when I hear some famous writer's name associated with a game it makes me a little skeptical. Not because the writer isn't talented but because videogame writing is different than books or even movies.

Like in a modern video game the thing that's famously most hard and expensive to do is dialogue scenes with emotion. Which in books and movies are the easiest and cheapest. And they move at a completely different pace and have to be designed for a player to somehow feel like a part of it all. It also needs to all be written in a way that never steps outside of what they game they are building is meant to be. Which is a lot of considerations writers are not used to having.

So that they had him working purely on the mythology of the game sounds like the best possible use of his talents.

GRRM is a great writer, but he's also good at worldbuilding. There's so many places in his books that you hear about but will never see, so him consulting on a game in that manner is perfect.
