Mother said the bottom of the light was "worst than death".

I think MiB went to that place and his cursed soul came back as the smoke monster. That light seems to be the energy that lies under the island, the "exotic energy" the dharma folks mentioned.

Well, that's what i think...

In this episode I felt more sorry for MIB then anyone else.

I agree with Gat. MiB is the smoke monster and not simply an apparition appropriated to mess with Jacob. The way I see it, the smoke monster seed was MiB's "gift" when he was born. That is, he was born as the individual with the potential to become the smoke monster. As the mother stated, Jacob was always meant to replace her. That would imply that she knew what MiB was to become.

MiB displayed an inherent, deceptive disposition and knowledge of the island's secrets. The two personalities line up. Additionally, Jacob still considered the smoke monster his "brother" (obviously, he could only say "friend" since the writers wanted to save that revelation) in their scenes together during the latter half of the 1000s. Their interaction with one another, as well as the smoke monster's motivations, fall apart if MiB and the smoke monster aren't the same person. That is, Jacob would not view the smoke monster as his "friend." Jacob would view smokey as one who was responsible for the murder of the former's brother. Additionally, the mother stated that she changed the rules in order to prevent Jacob from killing MiB and vice versa (Jacob noted that he wasn't going to "kill" his brother). The smoke monster would not be bound to this if the smoke monster were not MiB.

This witnessing the light makes me wonder about the nature of MiB's transcending his body. If someone else were to venture towards the light, would the MiB smoke monster cease to exist or would two smoke monster simultaneously inhabit the island?

p.s. Since the sacred flask of wine was broken, will the replacement Jacob have to use dharma beer for the ritual? Wait, does that mean it will be Sawyer? The man does love his dharma beer.

p.p.s. I like that theory regarding Jacob's attempt to move a piece sideways.

p.p.p.s. The Adam and Eve recap was entirely unnecessary. Anyone who pays attention knew that the writers were going to address the issue and it was pretty clear early in the episode who A & E would be.

I didn't mind that Adam and Eve recap at all personally. I found that many people complained about it, but I think it served as a nice, poignant way to end the episode.

Well, turns out

Jack is the new protector of the island

I wonder if he is going to have that job for a long time or until desmond's plan in the alt timeline is finished.

Richard better not to be dead.

Richard is probably on the moon right now. He got... fucked badly. And I loved Ben this episode, ah the good memories about Ben. I always liked the evil Ben, it suited him. And Desmond is so different in the alt timeline, it seems like he is evil or something.

Yeah, if you listened to the Geronimo Jack's Beard podcast for this episode, Henry Ian Cusick (Desmond) said that he thought it was odd that he pummeled Ben with such viciousness. Yeah, Ben came after Desmond and Penny with a gun, but Desmond only beat up Ben to open his eyes to the alt timelines, just like Desmond hitting Locke with his car. So Cusick said that the viciousness of it sort of confused him.

Also, funny story, Cusick accidentally gave Ben a black eye while filming that scene, so the black eye he had under his right eye through the episode wasn't actually make up. Cusick said he slipped and Michael Emmerson (Ben) sort of moved forward and he couldn't stop his fist in time :rofl Supposedly, Emmerson liked how it looked and was sending pictures out to the other castmates :imslow

Who here thought that Jack wouldn't be the protector of the Island?

I know a lot of fans wanted Hurley to be the protector, or Sawyer. I always thought Jack was predictable.

I think the decision about who'll be the protector still isn't over with. There are many theories, including one that says there won't need to be a protector if MiB is successfully killed. There is also one that invokes "Live together, die alone"...meaning it'll be all of them, not a single person.

It was obvious that Jack would volunteer. He's our "hero" after all -- the one who never hesitates to sacrifice or take the lead when someone needs to. Very predictable, yes, but he kind of had to be the one. That's why I have mixed feelings about it.

Well, hopefully you're right and the protector hasn't been officially chosen yet. I kind of like this "Live together, die alone" theory as that's clearly been one of the recurring themes throughout the show. That would be a much more interesting result imo than Jack just becoming the new "Jacob".

The other theory I'm not so sure about. Wasn't there a protector before MiB even existed? I was under the impression that a protector was necessary at all times to prevent anyone from extinguishing the light, not just MiB. But who knows~

That's a good point about the protector being needed regardless goody, I thought that immediately after I posted it. That's what Mother said anyways...so I guess we'll have to take it as fact. The problem is that Mother always said that man was evil and the the light had to be protected, which sounds a lot like MiB (man being inherently evil, that is). It could have been to protect the brothers from seeking out other humans, but it also could have been what she really believed. Which means that Jacob could have just been doing a job that wouldn't have been necessary if he hadn't created the monster in the first place. That's just my theory though.

So maybe I will ask more questions than the answers this episode provided..
- so this "mother" did so both bros coudln't kill each other <I know, it will not be answered, but still :p>
- "Mother" was the previous "Jacob".. or rather protector of the light it seems..?
- why this "mother" said that "nameless" cannot leave the island? <even MiB asked her about that, lol>
- the "wheel", at least one answer from where it came xP <half-joke>
btw. hehe, she thought MiB was better for being protector than Jacob.

10/10, it was like watching a movie which runs for about 40 minutes <3 When I will rewatch the whole series on vacation, I will definitely watch this episode as first, than Richard's one, and then season 1, 2 and so on normally xd

btw2. This episode somewhat answered my question about the "wooden house" on island. It seems it was MiB all along with morhping into it and doing "Jacob" job, and with shapeshifting abilities it seems its that way, like when he morphed into Christian and put Claire at his side.. The only thing which I would like to have answered would be: what about Richard? Why did he alloweb Ben and "others" to believe it was Jacob when he knew that Jacob was under the "foot" statue? It can be that real Jacob allowed Richard to not tell anybody about this, because "it must be like that" or sth, but still.. I would like to have an answer for that, one, which would really answered this thing <I don't know to end after the finale as someone who was supposed to answer this himself.. still, maybe I'm reading into this too much>

- my first thought: man, its not good that Kate survivde <:p>, but then I hear she says to Jack: "Locke did this to them", and Jack "I know", and I changed my mind xP
- Jack told, that they will need Des, then this superb music theme in the background, and Sawyer changes his facial expression into being badass and go after Jack = epic <3
- Des f*cked up Ben in alternative too, we can say its the second time xP But its interesting way to allow him to see "island stuff" xP
- holy shit, I sense come back of Ben with that C4 for eventuality xD
- "than we better take it all" about C4 xD
- ENTER THE WIDMORE XD
- the talk between Ben and Widmore once again proves to be SOMETHING.
- "I'm the suspect", Des in alternative is pro, and that smile to Saiyd and Kate xP
- "I killed them", "No, he killed them", I didn't think that Jack will be the one who will comfort Sawyer about killing Sun and Jin. But its more good that it happen, because Sawyer is the best when he wants someone to kill xD <<he will not do much, but still ^^>
- "give me the walkie talkies?", "Why?", "Because I asked".,
Ben rlz <3
- "you know he will kill you", "Then I quess this is goodbye" <3
- when Richard was outside the camp of 'others' I thought: man, and there were so many ppl on both sides at the beginning of this series, and now.. lol
- wow, Richard seems to be trying to learn how to fly xP <I don't think he's dead right now, but if he is, he was somewhat very fast put out of the show.. and not so epic as one would expect xd>
- Ben's answer to the Flocke's "That's the man I was looking for" was epic xD
- o shit "he's hiding in my closet" xD
- "you don't need to see this", "I wanna see this" = pro xD
When I saw this scene I thought: Ben's revenge for the death of his daughter will now occur, and Ben's doing the same stuff to MiB as MiB did to him with Jacob, he's using him xD
- "He doesn't get to save his daughter", pro xDXDXD The come back of Ben which I like, so the authors really didn't screw up Ben after all in this season xD
- hmm, nice answer to Sawyer's question about why Jacob brought them on the island. Still, the whole conversation with Jacob was so fast and all, its somewhat seems rushed to me : /
- nice text from Jacob about the choice he never had
- "I thought this guy had a GAR complex before", you know, Sawyer's text is pro xDXD <though it was "god" or "GAR" I don't care, I heard "GAR" XP>
- so the next Jacob.. I mean, protector of the island is Jack. It was so obvious from the moment "candidates" theme were put that its not even funny : / Most of the fans if not all thought about Jack, ehh. You know, I wanted it to be Locke, the real one, and I hope its not the end to that, that final episode <actually longer one> will give some twist to that, maybe even resurecting real Locke after "killing" MiB and he would be the best choice for protector of the light>
- the facial expressions of Saiyd and Kate, when Des told them about "promises" and car is stopping = priceless xD All in all Des in alternative rocks!
- HAHAAHAHA, nice one, fans finally have their answer to why MiB is not flying but walkint, HAHAHAHA XD
- cliffhanger: wow, I wonder now how will Ben react to the revelations of Flocke about destroying the island, when the same Flocke said to him that he will give him island..

Some answers:
- actually its not an answer but its nice that we know that Richard took care of Alex body.
- finally, so the "controlling the monster" stuff was bullshit from the beginng, nice one for the authors on this one. Ben said it was told to him, that he can summon the monster here, but he realised it was the other way around. Now I'm more into "the wooden house" theory that it was MiB and Ben realised that he was being controlled <though I want it to be that way>
- the boy which appeared to MiB was Jacob, heh. "Where have you been?", Hugo rocks xP
- Jacob did say he made a mistake
- hmm, sth about mothers not allowed to be candidates? Now I wonder how it reflects to giving birth on the island/death issue because this doesn't answer that methinks
- Jacob said that when Jack firstly came here, he was at some bamboo field or sth, and that there is the light. I write this beause when I will rewatch the series, I will need to look onto it, just for the sake of it :p

9/10, the episode had climate and some answeres were given, thought I would give it even 8/10 for the Jack issue. It was so obvious that its not even funny and doesn't fit Lost authors at all : / But still, I give 9/10 because of 2 personas: Des and Ben, one in each "world". Des is always cool, so to conclude: big come back of Ben, which I always liked <and who read my posts about season 6 episodes knows that I didn't like how Ben was being portrayed here, that he wasn't badass, that authors were "killing" the character of Ben and so on>. And here.. man, as if I was a child I was so happy to see such Ben <3 It was surely the come back of the "old" Ben. I'm so much excited that authors can kill him off in the finale, I don't care because they made Ben at the end look like he was in the rest of the seasons which he appeared. Now I wonder what he will do about Flocke's revelation, but still.. Ben's always have a plan <3<3

Me too, GAT. So many tears! I'm still processing the whole thing so these aren't my full thoughts about the episode, but yeah when Vincent came to join Jack, I was so happy that he didn't die alone. :crying

Truly epic. Great finale, lots of tears:crying:crying
I don't know if they had thought lots of different endings, but i think this is the best one they could have done.

I think there is a lot to process. I'd describe my feeling about it right now as "satisfied". The show pretty much ended exactly how it started, Vincent waking Jack up.

What I do detest is a certain breed of "fan" that pretty much admonishes the entire series because a certain something wasn't explained. The show isn't about why women have fertility problems on the Island, or what the "Sickness" was, or who was pursuing Sawyer's group in the outrigger when the time flashes were occuring, or what the "Hurley Bird" was or Kate's horse. It was about the people. People going off and saying that it was a huge waste of time and that they didn't understand it at all depresses the hell out of me.

A common human reaction to something they don't understand is anger. I'm not trying to act all high and mighty, but if you want complete resolution of a plot with nothing left to ponder, go watch freakin' CSI!

^Totally agree with xi0. "Satisfied" was a great way to describe how I felt after the finale. And even though what happens to the characters after they go "somewhere" is basically left open, I still feel this sense of closure about the way it all ended. The way the story really came full-circle was very poignant.

And who cares if they didn't explain every minute detail of every mystery they presented us with over the years? I think that by not explaining these things, in a way, it keeps the spirit of the show alive. You know, the part of it that always kept you guessing and intrigued. The part that I, personally, loved (along with the characters, of course). Answers are good, but when it comes to Lost, a little mystery is better. :tem

Just to let you know guys, when the Season 6 DVD comes out, there is a bonus which includes a 20 minuute clip from Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse in where they answer all the unanswered questions, basically all the questions that could not be answered in the show, it will be answered in this 20 minute clip from the Season 6 DVD.

:kkthumbs

I think that's incorrect. I heard there was 20 minutes of unseen footage from the finale...a la deleted scenes. But I also heard there would be extras in the DVD that would explain some stuff, but I didn't hear it was necessarily a clip from Team Darlton that would answer EVERYTHING.

Well it's better then nothing, Walt still needs to be explained. And this finale was just superb, my favourite episode throughout the whole show. Can't believe everyone technically died, and Jack was the first one to die. :(

Matthew Fox will win an award for his performance.
