I confess that in order to get the drama of another person's issues out of my head, I followed up on Dogs Against Romney.

And found this:

Snicker.

Disclaimer: I am not claiming a political position. The right of a person to place their dog in a carrier on top of their car for a 12hr road trip and spray it down when it defecates is completely up for grabs. Snicker.

I don't call him a manchild because he likes Star Wars. I'm a big scifi and manga geek who enjoys programming.

I call him that because of how he acts towards me. I'm aggravated that someone who I used to have long enjoyable conversations with is acting this way. And it applies to everything, even lab duties last semester! I even apologized and tried to refocus on the project, but couldn't work with him because he would be either silent or say a mean thing. I ended up going to another group for the rest of the semester. And yet there are times when I have talked with him and we get along great. Last year we'd meet up in the Dining Commons a lot and chat about everything from classes to personal life to politics.

Well, that was before Spring Break and when he avoided me for a week until he told me "I thought I was getting attracted to you", "you are my type, but", "if I were alone in a dark room with you I would, but" after I spent hours trying to find out why. Things have been painfully awkward since (it did NOT help that he told me I was much less mature than I thought I was, referencing my lack of friends and my pride about meeting a senator, and that is THE insecurity I live with every day - even writing it brings me a little to tears.) But we chatted after the vacation and he was amicable. He paid for a Japanese lunch where I did an intro on a programming language to help him complete a task I offered my assistance with. We both enjoyed it and had a great afternoon.

And now... now it's just back to how it was. I'm just really annoyed that he appears to be scared of my intelligence and attractiveness that he doesn't want to talk with me. I only call him a manchild as a last resort, since I am so sick of this evasion and I am sick of the excuses.
Your friend reminds me of someone who is (was ?) lacking confidence and wants to spare the one he likes/love/whatever his presence because he is seeing himself as worthless for someone like her. It's like he cares enough about you to not make you "suffer" or frustrated by what he think he really is.

It's like he is sacrificing your relationship for your sake. Whether it's true or he is just making himself this kind of excuse to cover his lack of self-confidence.

I confess you all are right about the guy, though Naomidee seemed most accurate on the rationalization. I like to work from the basis of being a good friend to everyone. It seems I can't do that with some people because they can't handle it. I also realized I'm a bit of a tsundere after a friend pointed it out. Erp.

I confess Googlez comment made my morning along with the latest AnE chapter. I also confess that I don't do DGM posts anymore because I simply got aggravated with the direction of the story, or lack thereof. :cookiehand

Being tsundere can certainly be attractive to some, as long as it's not overboard.

I confess that I also tend to want to be a good friend to people, and want to understand who they are and how they tick. It sometimes leads to me being overbearing and probably annoying. So most of the time I probably let them down and therefore let myself down by trying to be all things to everyone. It's pretty selfish if you really think about it.

Yes. Same here though. That and I'm naturally curious. I'm pretty loyal to a fault so I'll go out of my way for friends. Done it before, even.

Well, as far as my relationships with people I am at a crossroad of sorts. There was a point at which I simply I decided I was not going to bother trying to fit it (over a decade ago). That was helpful and it did result in me getting a select group of extremely close friends however the idea in itself is not without its issues. I have overall trouble meeting people and in trying to solve that problem the notion of not trying to fit in does not particularly help. In this regard I am yet again at a point where I am trying to fit in with other people with whom normally I would not actually even care to know anything about simply for the sake of meeting new people. I got to a point where I am trying to find a balance between being myself and trying to fit in. There was a point where I abhorred the idea of trying to fit in however circumstances being different from back then (I went from being rather nomadic between groups of people in my class without ever actually being close friends with anyone to having a group of very close friends with whom I am friends with to this day) make the idea far less horrible. Funny how shit works out lol.

I can understand this completely. I suppose I just got to the point where I gave up trying to find a consistent method or way to interact with people. I just tried to be myself and let the chips fall where they may. So it's a paradox in a way - I act how I want to act, but I still care enough about what people think of me to want to interact with them and be a good friend. So...utterly confusing :edu. I suppose it may never not be a trial and error type of thing.

I confess I had a starring contest with my cellphone the other day. I just starred at it until I could think of something to say to a girl lol. Strangely (or perhaps not so much, I don't even know nowadays) I kept imagining the song "eye of the tiger" on the background which was, well, remarkably distracting.

How did the staring contest work out? :derp

As it turns out even with awesome music cell phones don't blink. I did end up having a conversation though.

Well, I ended up going to her birthday party so not too shabby. On the downside, we also talked about how she got accepted into some school elsewhere (I knew that might or might not happen before but still its kind of a letdown).

Well, I guess things could end up well enough so that if at some point she returns we'd be on terms for something to actually happen. Its not a bad scenario but still kind of a letdown. Somehow this thing about liking girls with actual expectations of their lives is not working out for me lol.

I know how you feel, but try to spend as good a time with her as possible before she goes.First of all,you won't see her for quite a while,so enjoy the remaining time with her.Secondly, she'll remember you in a very positive way when she leaves, which will strengthen your pen friendship. If there will be one that is.

I already know all that part about enjoying the time we have together and whatnot... Done that before (with somewhat disturbing results although I don't actually count on the situation being the same). Still, it is a bit of a bummer that I found a girl I actually like (she is easy on the eye too) and it turns out she is leaving. I would question how much of a pen pall I could be. Even if I have written a lot of posts here (maybe too many thinking about it but then again I thought that 5000 posts ago and 2500 before that) I do have a thorough dislike for texting.

I confess that I'm not a fan of texting either.Speaking with someone, especially with girls and the girl you like is so much more enjoyable.Actually, you can't even compare it.So I guess I understand your aversion to texting.Skyping might be a possibility for you.(Even though I dislike that as well. It's probably even worse than texting.)
