Best Male Supporting Character - Kakashi (Naruto)

Best Female Lead - Revy (Black Lagoon)

Best Shounen - Hands down, it's FMA. It was seriously as close to perfect as a story could get. The characters, plot and design were all just awesome. And the best thing about it? It was the pefect length. It wasn't too short or too long... it was just brilliant and a fulfilling read.

Best Josei - I really wanted to go with Usagi Drop since the story is sooo adorable.... but since it pretty much took a nose dive after a certain event, I'll go with Amatsuki. The story is great, the characters are great, and the artistic style is great - especially the colored pages/covers. <3

Best Seinen - Octave. To be perfectly honest, I'm a sucker for cute and endearing characters/stories.

Best Costume Design - Tegami Bachi

Best Villain - Sasuke (Naruto). Does anyone instill more dislike/like in a fandom then him?

Best Fight - Jiraiya vs Pain.

I liked this one too, it was much more epic then Naruto vs Pain, imo. It's also cool to see what Jiraiya could do, as we've seen previously what Orochimaru and Tsunade can do, but not really Jiraiya, excluding the 2v1 sanin summoning battle between them which didn't show too much of jiraiya's abilities, until this fight/battle scene. This is *NOT* a nomination by me though, just commenting as someone finally nominated this fight, lol.~ HegemonKhan

Best Couple/Pairing - I was going to go with Ed x Winry, but since the extra chapter was such a let down ( that's all I wanted from it), I'll go with Minato x Kushina. Though I think it mostly because of the the sheer awesomeness of "Minato Gaiden", but whatever.

Best Full Cast - FMA

Best Artwork - This is really a toughie since I'm extremely picky when it comes to this sort of thing (will never ever read One Piece because of the crappy/2nd rate work :b), but I'm going to throw a bone to Tegami Bachi on this one.

Best manga Overall: Naruto


currently only see naruto manga , 2 years ago people talked me about one piece , bleach and naruto. I started first seeing the anime, on that time i didnt even know what was a Manga lol but Naruto of the all 3, was the only one that made me wanna see much more. i also liked one piece but naruto was the only one that makes me wanna know what is going to happen next week I also liked alot fullmetal alchemist.


Sorry if i shouldnt have talked about why i choosed what but i only said this because almost all my votes were in the same direction :P

I don't know if it can be considered as josei but as mangahelpers is putting it in that category, I nominate Saiyuki.

Really hard to classify this manga. It's done by a "shojo" artist, the anime is a "shounen", the manga is not as clear to classify. The first chapters were in a shounen magazine then in a shojo magazine ...

Honestly, I would've nominated Naruto as the Best Shounen manga if I haven't watched the anime version... Sadly, in the anime, most of the events that you really liked in the story look so bad. Most of Shippuuden episodes were a huge disappointment as far as I'm concerned. The other reason why I nominated One Piece is because it has no "bad manga periods". As for Naruto, there were some times when I almost decided to stop reading it (but ofc I couldn't because after reading half a book there is no point in quitting without completing it).

Itachi turning out to be good. I'll go in depth for this later once i am on a pc...but for now all i'll say is that judging the unexpectedness, yet the finest seamless fitting of it with loads and loads of previously known details, the impact it had on the plot both before and after the revelation, the impact on the characterization and character interaction of the main characters (which is the core crisis of this manga), the way the whole thing changed complexion only by the establishment of a different perspective without changing the actual event(that is itachi being the one to mass murder uchiha), the emotional impact it had on readers and the political/philosophical debate it generated among them (so realistic that it remains an almost unsolvable debate)...that without any doubt it is The Best. A twist that is not only surprising, but with exceptional depth (the only other one that comes to my mind is the Lelouch twist...but its anime).

One piece nominated for the best Shounen is definetly understandable, but as a "best manga overall"... I would agree with ashher about it being overrated.
I hope I'm not breaking any rules by discussing the nominations in this thread
As for Bleach being the "best Artwork" manga, I definelty don't agree with this because in Bleach, only the characters look great because the artist is skilled in drawing people. But the problem is that he never puts an effort in drawing the background. So when you are reading Bleach, most of the time, the only thing you can see are white / black empty spaces behind the characters.

Isn't that the interest of Bleach artwork. I kinda love this simplicity and honnestly one of the only reason why I keep reading this serie.
As for D Gray Man I kinda agree with assher there's too many point in the serie where the power change is completely unrealistic. That's really diminished the interest I have in this manga

Psyren is receiving too many sympathy votes. The fact that the manga just ended is for a lot in all the votes concerning Psyren. If it was some years ago, Mx0 would have been in the same position ... 5 votes for Ageha as best male lead is what is shocking me the most. Ageha vs Vash The Stampede, Alucard, Onizuka, Guts, ... Are you kidding me ? Ageha is just a typical "by the book" shounen hero.

For me, a plot twist should be something that change completely the manga ... not some "surprising" revelation which doesn't change the story that much.

I really like this thread. I've been searching for new mangas to read for a while now & I'm probably going to read Vinland Saga. I once tried but I probably didn't tried enough.

Great to see that DGM is getting some love, almost compensates for the damage that Ongoing One Piece Overrate is doing to me as a manga lover. However i do think that DGM sort of lacks in plot flow...things get heated up so suddenly that it made me feel like the mangaka just woke up one day and thought "what the heck its getting too slow i want faaaast"

DGM is definitely underrated and has been so for a long time. I'm not sure I agree with the love it's getting either way, but it's great to see that people appreciate the manga, personally the manga has been going downhill for a long time hence none of my votes going that direction. But I can understand why other's disagree.

As for OP, well yeah I agree that it's getting too much hype. I agree that OP is an amazing story and manga, but the manga having no bad periods is crap in my opinion. There's several periods throughout the manga where I was bored so the manga being "perfect" is something I can't agree with, it's far from it although it's most likely the better of the Big 3. I do think OP is overrated, while Bleach and Naruto is underrated.

FMA on the other hand was a perfect manga, to a much higher degree than Naruto, or OP for that matter from start to end. The flow was perfect, the characters were more or less all highly relevant and never forgotten. The cast was perfect, the plot was amazingly executed and the artwork was always top notch. FMA is one of those rare diamonds where I sat back and thought "wow, I couldn't have asked for much more from this story". FMA is by far the most deserving "best manga overall" in my eyes, and thus best shounen too.

Too bad a best death category wasn't thought of like mentioned before,

Claymore is a perfect manga (and anime too, except for episode 2 which is slightly boring/slow though it is important and interesting still despite that, and that there's no 2nd season, at least not yet.. we're hoping one will finally/eventually get made at some point, sighs), imo! There's almost no "fillers" and it is extremely fast paced, especially the fight scenes, being very quick and to the point, you won't be disappointed! The manga is a monthly release, and so the people who are caught up with reading it, do complain about it being "slow/boring", but this is really not the manga chapters itself, but merely that its a monthly release, imo. More people should definately read/watch Claymore, if they're interested in a truly perfect manga and/or anime! ~ HegemonKhan

Some things to take in consideration for best shounen between FMA & One piece.

FMA have monthly releases while One piece have weekly releases. So, FMA should be a more "finished" product.

FMA is only 109 chapters of around 40 pages while one piece is more than 600 chapters of around 18 pages. So, One piece is roughly 3 times longer than FMA. So, it's easier to not have bad periods for FMA.

Personally, I found FMA's 10-20 last chapters rubbish. I completely lost interest. I don't have arguments to explain that but it's just the way it is. About One piece being so "hyped" ... I don't know ... I read more than 100 mangas in my life but I still think that One piece is above everything else by far. It's a typical adventure shounen but everything is just so well done ... it's so much fun.

oh, godammit I nominate the DGM-wtf then it just came so sudden on most readers, almost everyone went wtf lol

I see lots of flaws with D.Gray-man, for example the earlier action scenes were drawn really bad, and somewhere around chapter 177-188(or something) the art was messy (as the artist hurt her hand).. and yes, the flow in the story can change and be quite abrupt (excuse my bad English )... when the story suddenly jumps ten hours/days/weeks foreward and later go back to explain what happened in the meantime, one can become confused (that sometimes happens in Naruto as well, but it's easier to follow there x'D)... it's definitely not perfect, but no manga has been perfect in my opinion.

To me DGM is the best manga overall (so far) simply because it's the only ongoing manga the latest years I've never been bored with (I've only been bored with the waiting time since it changed from weekly to monthly release )

Best Female Supporting Character: +1 vote for Major General Olivia Armstrong from Fullmetal Alchemist.

Best Chapter: ... ah, what the hell. +1 vote for One Piece Chapter 398 - Declaration of War. Not sure if this is the one I would really vote for, but I can't be arsed to read through every manga I've read to find a single best chapter. Out of the ones already nominated, this is the best one, so yeah, why not? Both emotional and epic, it's definitely one of the best One Piece chapters.

I'm skipping Best Kiss and Best Hairstyling because I don't really care about those.

@zellogan lenghth of an work can't really be an excuse to not being as good as any shorter work. If you are working with 3times greater lenghth, then you also have the chance of making it 3 times more epic. And if the writer feels its too difficult, then he should keep it within the length that he feels he can work with the best. Its like choosing the canvas for an artist. Also the logic about One Piece being fun is not the strongest point there is. Sure before criticizing a work one needs to understand what the writer is trying to do with and then judge how much of it he could achieve, but one also needs to consider what the writer aimed is worthy enough or not. Like one may find comedy serials these days like BBT, Arrested Development or even the classic Friends funnier than old gags of Chaplin, but you can't really say that these are better than Chaplin...because he simply aimed higher with his comedy.
