Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - 7 / 10

After watching "Spider-Man: No Way Home" and what was done with the multiverse scenario in that film as well as what was set up in the final episode of "Loki", not sure why Marvel held back in this latest picture. I was expecting more of what they'd already done in NWH, but I guess, the budget was limited to numerous more cameos, however, Raimi did get to be himself in certain parts of the film that made it enjoyable and entertaining. However, Marvel so far, isn't as strong as it was just 3 years ago, when "Endgame" was released and I think the business side of things is starting to hinder it's appeal somewhat.

This is such a funny but intriguing casting....

It's almost like a Jodorowsky casting, except Walken instead of Salvador Dalí ... same energy, can't explain it

The Batman - I liked a lot beautifully shot and designed production. Solid script, making good use of Long Halloween as base, but giving it a new twist with some Sev7n-esque serial murder and investigation going. Great performances by most of the cast, special nods to Farrel, Dano, Serkis, Kravitz, Turturro and Kravitz. And yes, Battinson also worked well. I would have made the ending shorter, but I get why that particular scene is there from marketing perspective. 4/5

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 - Pretty nice if you like the source material some nice action. 3/5

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - Pretty middle ground MCU stuff, with some extra flavour from Raimis direction on the horror elements. It's quite fun and trippy. And yes, Evil Dead get heavily referenced. 3/5.

The Northman - Definetly epic. Audiovisually amazing. But didn't quite reach my expectations (which were, to be fair, sky high). I suppose theatrical expression was to be expected, but that never really is quite my cup of mead. But never the less impressive take on "Hamlet". Soundtrack was phenomenal. 4/5.

I actually didn't know but it's the other way around actually, Hamlet is inspired by the legend of Amleth, which came a few hundred years before Shakespeare's take on it.

Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers - Positive surprise. Some clever plays with tropes and enough Easter eggs for a couple of rewatches for sure. Actually a good attempt at what Space Jam 2 tried to do, but failed at miserably. Literal plus point for Ugly Sonic. 3+/5.

The Northman was a pretty good watch at the theatres. Some elements felt boring, but overall enjoyed it.
The King on Netflix is an epic of not so epic proportions. Kinda average and wouldn't recommend to anyone in particular, one of those you could watch and not be offended by it though.
Annette, didn't know it was a musical, just that it was the follow up from Holy Motors (by Leos Carax). The start was catchy but then I spent the next hour(?) in limbo as the film wasn't doing too much. It picked up with the 'transformation' of Annette (the character) which was an amazing thing, and the ending was well done. Liked it (the movie), did not love it.

Uncharted
I didn't like the Drake family lineage being given up so quickly and easily. Some of the details were off, aside from that it was ok. 6/10

Ghostbusters Afterlife
Better than expected. Mainly for children and oldtime fans of the original filmology 7/10

The Batman
Robert Pattinson would make a better nightwing than Batman. The plot borrowed heavily from other comic book stories although I can't remember exactly which ones atm 8/10

The Long Halloween, and it's sequels Dark Victory and In Rome seem the most obvious sources of inspiration for the plot.

For mood Year One seems like given. I think Reeves (director) said a lesser know story Ego was also a heavy influence in mood and characterization of Batman.

The ending seems point towards No Man's Land as the potential sequel/expanded tv universe inspiration.

Just watched that last evening. I love Sam Raimi movies. And I typically like marvel movies. So I'm trying to figure out why I felt so indifferent about this one.

Aside from that one scene where they're getting chased through the sewers I didn't care as much as I feel like I should. Maybe it's the amount of CGI and it could be I'm just getting to a point where I'm done with that. Not sure if I was hoping he'd do more trippy or campy things than he did or what but I just wasn't able to like it as much as I want to.

The Wanda thing was sort of a direct sequel to wandavision. But yeah, maybe it's that the CGI scenes watered down the Raimi part of it. I personally enjoy his campy weird stuff. Like the Raindrops Falling on My Head Spiderman 2 scene. I would have liked so much more transdimensional weird stuff.

For the most part this was such a normal superhero movie and if there was every a movie just begging to be bizzare it was this one.

Not 1950s, but close enough. One of my favorites.

Also any time Vincent Price and Roger Corman adapted Edgar Allen Poe's works - Masque of the Red Death, The Fall of the House of Usher, etc. Campy obviously, but great.

The Haunted Palace is next on my watchlist. Which is a Rodger Corman and Vincent Price movie. I'll have to put The Haunting on there too. Just a lot of fun to be had in this era of movies in general. All come in under 90 mins too.

Haven't seen a lot of Vincent Price yet. The original House on Haunted Hill was about the only of his I've seen. But I certainly enjoyed him in that.

It's unique because it's "horror" doesn't feel dated or silly compared to a lot of the horror of this era. It really holds up.

I'm perfectly ok with dated or silly movies. Campy-ness is a plus for me, if anything. But I'll check it out anyway there is something about this era of movies that really appeals to me.

To give you an idea of the "class" of movies I'm having such a good time with..

• The Angry Red Planet (1959)
• The Killer Shrews (1959)
• Attack of the Giant Leeches (1959)
• Monster from the Ocean Floor (1954)

There were a couple others I can't remember the names of but that's the sort of movies I'm really into right now. Sort of working my way through the amazon prime collection of these wonderful treasures. The original Blob movie got me started with like 48 year old Steve McQueen playing a highschooler. I was all in after that.

Thing I never expected to say: the upcoming live-action Barbie movie is a total must-see.

Directed by Greta Gerwig, written by her and Noah Baumbach, with all-star ensemble cast lead by Margot Robbie and Ryan Cosling.

Didn't see that coming.

Old horror flicks are gold. I've seen a bunch, we had a club in uni. Once a month we gathered to drink and watch b-films all thorough the night. Can't honestly even remember all the films.

If plausible, we usually had VHS or Betamax copies.
