It's pure speculation. Very, very dubious speculation that's unlikely to be true.
Mashima mentioned it himself if im sure, I cant find the source but its from either blog or interview where he mentioned it was not his own idea to do it.

I've never been able to find the original source for that information, although I do like to believe it, since it certainly feels like he brought her back without really wanting her around. Still, I first heard it here and mostly see it mentioned in little shipping wars on tumblr, but never spotted it in an interview.

Tbh him not wanting to bring her back and being made to do it and do it that good, that shows more skill of his as a author then anything else. It shouldnt matter if he wanted to or was made to. Its that he did it that good regardless.

No offense, intended, but lacking a source other than a vague "a blog or interview" I'm just going to assume it's false information. It would not be the first time I traced such claims to a forum post that was merely someone repeating someone else's speculation as though it were fact.

To be honest "His editor made him do it" sounds like a variation on the old "the anime director made him do it/asked him to bring her back" argument that people used to like to claim as fact.

That claim the director made him do it died a pitiful death after people began pointing out the anime director would have no power to make him do anything to the manga, and the claim that the director asked him runs afoul of an old interview from when the manga was in the middle of the Edoras arc:

http://fairytail.wikia.com/wiki/User_talk:ChaosKnight/Archive_2010#Lisanna

-Mashima: He (Ishihara) really thought about how to fill in the gaps of the stories in the episodes. The one about Lisanna's history and her past scenes were done especially well. I was really impressed.

-Ishihira: I had to think really deeply about that part, especially when the original work intentionally didn't have drawn enough about their past.

-Mashima: Well, that part wasn't really intentional... (Laughs)

-Ishihira: (on Lisanna's Past in the Anime) Actually, I did that part as if Lisanna never passed away, that's also my personal wish.

-Mashima: That, I got nothing to say (Laughs).

-Ishihira: But didn't she show up in the Edolas arc? That makes people felt, way to sudden...

-Mashima: It did felt like that.

-Ishihira: Because of her appearence in Edoras, some of the plans that I had for her just went up in smokes (Laughs).

-Mashima: But I felt that (the story and the characters) you guys can edit it any way you guys want.

I definitely remember pointing out those holes in that claim to people, and having them switch to speculating "Ok, then maybe it was his editor."

I would not be surprised to learn that conversation repeated elsewhere enough times that people instead began claiming that his editor made him do it was fact. Resulting in what we have here. Someone states the claim, gets asked where it's from. They answer with "I read it on a blog" or "he said it in an interview", but are then unable to come up with a source. It's a pretty common pattern of events, and has repeated elsewhere for this same claim. The discussion of the point dies, and most people walk away from it still thinking the claim is factual.

People tend to ignore that if it was in a genuine interview, it shouldn't be that difficult to track down. They also ignore that it's unlikely an author will say that their editor "made" them do something. Plus for all that Mashima's not done anything in particular with Lisanna, it's not like he's shown any sign of disliking the character. For example, if he didn't like Lisanna, one would expect her to never show up in his twitter sketches, which she does a few times.

So yeah, sans a link to a genuine source, it's best to assume this is just yet another false rumor people repeat as a fact.

So because people cant come up with factoids for you, something is not true? Well it cant be helped that i am not a walking wiki. Im not here to argue with tons of evidence for everything i say. Its established long ago that Lisanna wasnt ment to be back, (yet or in the fashion she did) Usually thats due to influence outside of the author himself. Because if he wanted her back then he would have said so himself.

Also drawing fun sketches with characters doesnt mean someone really likes or dislikes a character or if that character should in any way be included anywhere. Thats you making that up by yourself.

It's not only Krono who says that this interpretation of Lisanna's return most probably is not correct due to the lack of evidence.

Now that logic is sort of inequitable, isn't it? Fans clearly put Mashima in a place where he wasn't able to fully control what's to happen with his manga nor his characters at that time. It may come from the fact that Edolas was quite one of the unrewarding arcs of the whole manga, but apparently it were only fans who came up with the idea of Mashima being "forced" by interpreting a dialogue between him and one of those anime creators.

It's been established since the 1980s that anime tv serieses that run along weekly released manga contain a lot of "anime original crap" and change stuff without any necessity. But even knowing that people tend to believe anything from the anime more than what original author and original work actually show.

Mashima doesn't need to turn the fan interpretation down: He brought Lisanna back, and it was his final decision. So, he wanted her to be back for whatever reason - even if it only was to bring back Mira's full potential.

It could be though that Mashima now hesitates to give Lisanna a bigger role based on her current unpopularity as character that was "forced to return".

Lisanna's return healed her sibliings wounds. Yeah it is fun to have a love triangle, but its not possible because she is a support character. Lucy is always front line with Natsu. Elfman now grown up is starting something serious with Ever (if there is a time skip, there's gonna be a very manly baby with glasses).
The previous chapter, hints at some dormant affection between Marijane and Laxus. Which makes sense as they are both S-Class seniors. Levy and Gajeel has been downplayed, but after Fairy Island arc, no further cementing is necessary. I think after Gray fights Ice Demon Slayer, he will have to admit his true feelings for ms. water works. The love interests as few and far between in Shounen are there, and really cement family bond and change over time, I would expect further developments at next time skip, as I think before end of series the dragon slayers are gonna need to hit another couple levels. Interesting side note is that now Wendy and Romeo are close in age to each other.

Look we know for fact that Mashima has regrets about things he did with his manga, and sometimes wanted things differently then he did. If its because he had second doubts or because he was made to do. We dont know. Btw there is 1 chapter recently during the tournament that he had to redo most of the chapter because his editor rejected it. Flat out rejected. Yes in manga editors have more power then you realize.
as example for Mashima having second thoughts. Spoilers Rave master.
Also for example? Sieg (who Jelal is based on) is a character that died off in Rave-master. Mashima explicitly said he wouldnt do this to Jelal in this story. Effectively his Sieg.

Please, give facts. When and where has Mashima stated that and which chapter was rejected? A quick search on the net didn't bring up anything about that - so please provide a source. Found it. There was some twitter line around chapters 324 and 325 of a rejected name (which is an early draft of a chapter).

And yes, editors do have the right to turn down a name especially if they feel it would at least irritate most of the dear readers.

Mashima stated from the beginning of Fairy Tail on that this would be a different story than Groove Adventure Rave. No wonder a similarly modelled character would have a different fate.

As a matter of fact, yes, if someone cannot come up with a source for a claim, it's nothing more than a rumor, and can be disregarded as not true. This would hardly be the first time this happened in Fairy Tail's run.

For example, the old claim that Mashima was a former assistant to Oda. People kept repeating this claim, without ever verifying it. When placed under actual scrutiny, it turned out that Mashima had never been an assistant to anyone, much less Oda. That could have been easily deduced from various afterwards he'd written over the years, but no one bothered and the rumor wasn't killed until his US publisher said something.

I've already covered how the rumor "The anime director asked him to bring back Lisanna/made him bring back Lisanna" is not supported by actual interviews.

Next up is a fairly big one that made the rounds a while back, and is still making the rounds as a matter of fact. A bold claim that Mashima had announced the official pairings, and that all anime filler was written by him, except filler involving Lisanna. You can see an example of it here. The claim has numerous flaws to it, and sure enough as you can see if you look through the comments, it ended up tracing it's way back to the mangafox forums and someone holding forth their speculation as fact, then had it repeated by others as a fact.

The most recent example is from when Mashima was in Barcelona in 2012. After a flurry of claims along the lines of "Hiro Mashima reveals NaLu's Child" and "- When asked about the possibility of Natsu and Lucy ending up together, Mashima responded by revealing the name of their child; Nashi", someone posted a translation of the actual interview. Sure enough, once you looked at the relevant section, the claims were vastly overblown:

"RP2: We'd like to know, in the hypothetical case in which Natsu and Lucy ended together, have you thought any time of the names for their children?

HM: I don't know what to say, I have never thought about it (laughter). But, without a doubt, it would be Nashi."
It was a hypothetical raised by the interviewer, and Mashima had given it no thought, but came up with a name on the spot. Those of you with some familiarity with Japanese may notice he simply did the same things he did with Asuka. Take the first part of the father's name, the last part of the mother's name, and combine them. So again, another bold rumor not supported by actual fact.

So as you can see, without any solid supporting evidence, the claim that Mashima's editor forced him to bring back Lisanna is just another rumor. Particularly as it follows the same pattern as some of the others. Someone claims the editor made Mashima bring Lisanna back, someone questions it, the person making the claim says it was in an interview, and will try to find it. And that's the end of it, the supposed interview is never found.

So no, it's not a matter of being a walking wiki. It's just a matter of providing the most basic real support for a claim. If the interview in which Mashima supposedly said his editor forced him to bring Lisanna back actually exists, it should not be that difficult to find. Either you should have been able to re-find it, or someone else should have found it a while ago making it even easier to find. That it can't be located, and searches turn up nothing more than unsubstantiated claims on forums and social media is rather telling.

As for the sketches, actually, if you don't like a character, you tend to not draw them, and if you like them, you tend to draw them. Especially when you're drawing just for fun, not for any particular point. If you've been forced to include a character against your will in a series, it stands to reason that you would not be particular fond of them, and thus not sketch them. That Mashima's sketched Lisanna half a dozen times, including entirely off the cuff things like this, suggest that he has no problem with the character he's supposedly been "forced" to include in the series. Which in turn suggests that it was not forced like people like to claim.

That Lisanna likely wasn't originally planned to be brought back is not particularly relevant either. Mashima's original goal for the series was a mere 10 volumes. Things change, and there's no reason to assume this particular change was something forced by Mashima's editor, rather than something Mashima decided on his own.

So again, sans any genuine evidence like an interview, the claim that Mashima's editor forced him to retcon Lisanna's death is nothing more than a rumor. One that's following the same structure as several previous rumors that turned out to be inaccurate at best, and made up out of whole cloth at worst.

Furthermore, stop and ask, why would Mashima editor force him to retcon Lisanna's death? It's not like she had a large fanbase before or afterwards, clamoring for the change. If it was a personal liking on the editor's part, you would expect her to get much more significant panel time, as the editor continued to ask for her inclusion in more than minor roles. So the claim "Mashima's editor made him do it" does not add up well.

Mashima stated from the beginning of Fairy Tail on that this would be a different story than Groove Adventure Rave. No wonder a similarly modelled character would have a different fate.
Its not about the fate or whatever, its that there is more by mashima out there about his own work then any other artist.

Also the people that are most opposed to any notion that there has been outside influence are those that ship certain things in a story that have no basis of truth other then their own fantasies.

I didnt state that mashima might be influenced to bring back lisanna for any reason in particular. Either for or against a relation between her and Natsu. Id care less. Its only those that care greatly that will be most adamant about it.

On another note, to bite your personal statement in the ass about Mashima stated from the beginning of Fairy Tail on that this would be a different story than Groove Adventure Rave. . If that is the case then Natsu x Lucy will never, ever ever happen. Im not for or against it, i say it again i look at it from a logical point of view. Actually i think it is possible. Also its been said before Mashima often changes his mind on ideas and goes about a totally different way. So who knows. But if this story is so different there is no NatsuxLucy down the pipeline. Because he used that before.

Juvia and Grey were getting pretty lovey dovey last chapter. A lot more so than you typically see in action shounens. I'd say they are pretty confirmed at this point.

I :luv the cover of the latest chapter (380) it's Mira x Laxus we are happy shippers :fangirl

I don't mind either NaLu or NaLi ending, I think I'll be happy either way as long as it's done nicely and not like a random ending. What I totally expect to see through the end are these two pairings: Gajeel x Levy and Jellal x Erza .. I dare say these two pairings are pretty much set to be official by the end.

Did any of you think about Freed being gay/bisexual? I mean, I can't really see him with Mirajane or any other woman and he seems rather fond of Laxus...
