He didn't say it was canon, at that event in 2012 a reporter asked him what a kid between Natsu and Lucy would be called if they ended up together. Mashima said he hadn't given it much thought, but jokingly said the child would be called Nashi. That clearly doesn't confirm they're canon.

You have to look at it this way, Lisanna gets no screen time, nor is her fan base as massive as Lucys. Also NaLU gets my comedy chapters together like the Chrisman one where Erza pretty much saw NALU as a couple.

Lol, I actually don't care if they get together. I kinda ship LoLu after reading so much fanfiction, but NaLu is totally cool as well.

To be honest, I don't care about any shipping as long as Gruvia doesn't happen at the end. Like plz, anything but Gruvia, I've found tons of other FT girls that would be better for Gray..

Idk though, Mashima hinted several things on his Twitter that gives me some hope that Gruvia doesn't happen..

I kinda despise Gajevy, JerZa feels odd though I can get along with it. GrUvia and NaLu are my favourite pairs but I'm also okay with LyVia as I love Lyon so much and want him to be happy with the woman he fell in love with.

That's ironic, because at the moment out of all the possible pairings Gruvia has the highest chance at becoming canon, at least in my opinion. Gray basically gave her the "wait for me" card and let's be real, you know after the war is over they will live happily ever after blah blah. I don't know, to me (and a lot of others it seems) this is the pairing that has the romance plus the screen time, putting it ahead of everyone else. I don't see as much progression with the other ships as I do with Gruvia, especially on the guy's end of the stick.

I don't agree when you say other girls are better for Gray. Juvia is the only girl he has romantic development with. The guy is always with her, and it's not always because she seeks him out either. Living together is some serious shit, no matter what excuse you throw out there. It's also something unique that no other (big) pairing aside from this one has.

Anyway I really don't care what goes canon, nor do I have any real preference. But I am logical and do not deny what's right in front of my face. Mashima isn't subtle when it comes to his couples.

Unless one or both of them die, which is highly impossible to happen, they will become a couple. He told her to wait and I can't see any other reason why if it's not because he wants to formalize their relationship. Otherwise, he would've resolved the issue with a simple and plain no to go beyond the point they are now.
I'd like to know which are those hints though. If I'm not wrong, he even drew him and Natsu with the girls and well, Gray only had Juvia while Natsu had his own harem lol I mean, I don't visit his twitter regularly but I don't recall any doodle with hints. Correct me if I'm wrong and I missed something.

Now that I'm here, I'd like to hear your thoughts about what I'm going to say. It's not completely pairing related but it does have something to do with it.

The few pairing wars in the fandom of this manga were never a big thing and were already turning smaller and smaller by the time I temporarily left this fandom. Even so, there's a bunch of people in tumblr who claim that Gajevy equals Stockholm Syndrome, Jerza is unhealthy and other lies that are easy to debunk. One of them is basically that Natsu is a sexual harrasser for touching Lucy's boobs and wanting to spy her on the shower. The few individuals who said this were answered with a simple definition of what sexual harrassment actually is, but somehow still considered that those events prove Natsu has no respect for Lucy's personal space (lol?) and is disgusting. What do you guys think? Maybe I'm taking it too seriously but that sounds like trying to look a lot behind the facts and it looks like a big disorting of them.

- I am not so sure on this but don't you need to like kidnap people for Stockholm Syndrome? I mean Gajeel tortured Levy. Levy seemed scared of Gajeel initially but was able to realise what Gajeel was doing when they confronted him (and Laxus also showed up). So that's why she began to like him.
- Everything that happened to Jellal and Erza that we know is not enough to call JeRza unhealthy. It's more tragic.
- Mashima is the perv, he makes the scenes for fanservice and gags so how much we delve into serious issues has to be questioned. Natsu did sexually harrass her by the definition of it. But Natsu didn't do these things coz he's a perv and wants to cop a feel. He lacks education and etiquette is what I think. This doesn't excuse his behaviour. I do believe if Lucy addressed this to Natsu he would man up and apologise and change. You can say that Lucy shouldn't have to, which is quite right in normal situations, but they're close friends so if Natsu is crossing the line then as a good friend she can easily tell him right from wrong.

Pretty much. I can't see why Mashima would make Juvia go through so much and keep her feelings so strong even to this day if they aren't going to be reciprocated. Mashima likes to keep the suspense going, but you can tell Gray is a different person when he's alone with Juvia compared to in public. He's much gentler and is now more open. This is character development for Gray, because he used to hide his emotions much more. No, he won't reject her, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard and makes no sense considering the history and story. The chances of him rejecting are about the same as either of them dying, which is about 0%.

I remember that Twitter picture. Yeah, anything Mashima put on Twitter regarding couples always hints at the big four becoming canon. Not the opposite.

As for your examples in the last paragraph, those people need to remember this is not real life. This is a fictional manga world. I guarantee you most of those people prefer another (most likely crack/fanon) ship, so they desperately try to shit on the pairings that will be canon. That or main pairings are not their cup of tea. That's fine, not everyone likes the same things but don't deny canon facts.

It's pretty clear which pairings are going to happen now. It's way past the point where you can reasonably deny it, and insist that the crack pairings still have a chance. Pairing wars shouldn't even happen. The winners have already been picked. Jellal and Erza pretty much confirmed they loved each other 200 chapters ago. Gajeel and Levy got their kiss, and some people even speculate they got together over the time-skip. Gray and Juvia might as well get together now because it's kind of obvious where the whole "I'll tell you after the war thing is going". So really the most ambiguous pairing out of the 4 most popular ones is Natsu and Lucy, and well...

On the whole Natsu groping Lucy thing, the only person who can decide to be offended by this is Lucy. Now I don't claim that I understand Lucy's intentions perfectly... but I'm 99% sure that Lucy probably wasn't holding any grudges against Natsu considering how she treats in on that very same day.

I'm not getting the appeal for NaLu as some of you have for myriad of reasons. Just seems like a boring forced stereotypical main stream shounen pairing. and the whole foundation of the pairing consists of having generic non-original moments. Easily my most disliked pairing in the manga.

I sort of agree that Nalu is boring, most of the moments can be interpreted as platonic too. But ultimately we know it's going to happen.

Well we're not meant to be wowed by the romance or potential romance of characters in this series are we? It's a small part of the manga. I like NaLu because I like Natsu and Lucy.

Worst canon couple in this manga is ZerVis by a country mile.

It's no shoujo, but there are a lot of couples. Apparently Zervis was planned by Mashima a long time ago.
