My god that looks fantastic!

I never expected Ni No Kuni to get a sequel, didn't even dare hope for it, but I'm thrilled it did.

Oh and in case anybody missed the news. Sega is releasing releasing the PC HD remaster of Valkyria Chronicles on PS4 and developing a new game in the series Valkyria: Azure Revolution. So we can look forward to that next year. Unless SEGA f's us on the western release(which they are prone to doing).

Friends, I am not really familiar with Tales series, if I jump straight into Tales of Zestiria, would I be able to enjoy it? I have seen one of the gameplay vids, and to be frank the art is one of the things that keep me away from playing the game.. is it good though?

Friends, I am not really familiar with Tales series, if I jump straight into Tales of Zestiria, would I be able to enjoy it? I have seen one of the gameplay vids, and to be frank the art is one of the things that keep me away from playing the game.. is it good though?

Let me preface this by saying I haven't played Tales of Zestria. I have played most of the other Tales games though. So I can only talk generally about the Tales series.

They are solid JRPGs. Are they amazing? Usually not. The best one I played was Tales of Symphonia, which is really good but seems like more of the exception rather than the rule. So if your going into a Tales game I feel like you should expect something in the B to B+ range. That's typically where they're at.

Ikenie to Yuki no Setsuna looks so good.

That art design looks amazing and the music in the trailer reminds me of Child of Light. Which is a great thing. Everytime I start to think SquareEnix doesn't have it in them anymore something like this or Bravely Default is announced. Playing this on Vita is going to be a blast.

On a slight sidenote/tantrum, why the f#$% aren't these guys makeing Final Fantasy games?!!!! This game looks so much more promising than anything with Final Fantasy name on it right now.

I'm pretty excited about the PC release of Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen.


The original Dragons Dogma was one of my favorite PS3 games. It was basically part Capcom's attempt to make a game that blended Skyrim with Dark Souls and Shadow of the Colossus boss battles(where you can grab and climb monsters to get at weak points). The reality of it fell a bit short of that. It had lots of polish issues and the story, though very non-linier, was functional but not great. But it seems perfect for PC.

For one thing the RPG mechanics are also pretty hardcore. No fast travel. Really hard but fair combat. A leveling system that's reminiscent of Final Fantasy's Job system. And cool new game+ loop.

Then there is the pawn system. You basically create a custom playable character, then create another custom character that is called your pawn. Who is like an NPC companion who can learn all the skills and abilities as a playable character. This pawn character can be summoned by players and when they are you get rewards for that in addition to any gifts the player decides to send back with it. Using that mechanic you can form parties of up to 2 pawn in addition to your own.

The first gameplay video of Valkyria: Azure Revolution came out. It looks..well, not good.


The combat system looks like a disaster to me. On top of completely removing the strategy element it just doesn't look fun at all.

Lol, so it's moved away from the previous system and introduced Dynasty Warriors style hack-and-slash? Guess you have to view this particular one as a completely different game...

When I was watching it kept trying to convince myself it didn't look to bad. Like, maybe the story will be amazing. Or the roleplaying elements will be great. But man, that gameplay... could it have looked worst?

SEGA is going to be in very strange position when the Valkyria Chronicles HD remake comes out on PS4, spikes interest in the franchise, and then this comes out...

For anyone who may have missed the news the first wave of Fallout 4 DLC has been announced.

Automaton
- Due out in March
- Priced at $9.99
- Robot Themed (obviously)
- Introduces the ability to build and mod robot companions

Wasteland Workshop
- Due out in April
- Priced at $4.99
- Introduces New Settlement Items and Features
- Introduces the Ability to Construct Traps, Capture Creatures and Raiders, and Tame them or have them fight each other for your amusement.

Far Shore
- Due out in May
- Priced at $24.99
- A full Landmass Expansion supposedly bigger than anything they've ever done before.
- Takes place on a new island off the coast of Maine called "Far Shore"
- Features new Creatures, Quests, and, Settlements

Also the Season Pass price tag will be going up from $29.99 to $49.99 on March 1st. So if your intending to buy all 3 you can get it before then and save some money.

Just spent a couple hours with it and I have to say. I love it! Or at the very least it's starting very strong.

To be honest, I wasn't exactly sure what to expect from the trailers. It looked interesting but like it was somewhere between an art house project and a genuine JRPG. Bit like Child of Light was. But, no, I am Setsuna is a pure blooded old school JRPG.

It's pulling a lot of ideas from the older Square RPGs even more than it's promotional stuff claimed. It seems like the story is drawing a lot of influence Final Fantasy X, but without the weirdness, maybe with few bits drawn from FFIV and FFVII. The combat system looks like Chrono Trigger but actually plays more like Final Fantasy VII(with abilities being something similar to materia).

The winter aesthetic looks amazing and the soundtrack is great too; with a lot of lonely panio tunes like you hear in the trailers. There is something about the way it combines the snowy atmosphere with piano pieces that works incredibly well with what the story is. It's sad but in a beautiful way.

The characters also seem like some of the most interesting in a Square game in a while. And definitely the best main character in a while.

Atlus has announced a remake of Radiant Historia:



While I enjoyed the gameplay, I prefer the original character artwork. The new design seems like kinda... off to me.

Two more interesting games to look at. Is it just me or there a sudden resurgence of various types of RPG's?

It's funny how we had such a long spell where there just wasn't anything like that coming out. I guess maybe the Japanese shifting focus to the mobile market for a while probably had something to do with it. What was the last big Japanese RPG release before Final Fantasy XV?

Even if you add western games into the mix the last major ones were Fallout 4 and Witcher 3 were 2015,

Now we've gotten a flood with Final Fantasy XV, Tales of Berseria, Mass Effect Andromeda, and Persona 5 coming next week. And a ton more RPG style games games announced and starting to show footage that makes them look like they are getting closer to ready. Like Ni No Kuni, Dragon Quest 11, even this Radiant Historia remake. Probably just an odd coincidence but it's funny that things turned out that way.

With the release of Persona 5 this week reviews have started coming out and the critical consensus is that it's great. The Metacritic score, for whatever that's worth, stands at 94 with 13 perfect scores. If I wasn't hyped enough to play it before, I am now

Lots of critics are saying it's the not only the best Persona game it's one of the best JRPG's of all time. The consensus seems to be...

+ Great Story
+ Deep Characters
+ Surprisingly Mature Themes
+ Sleek Style
+ Polished, Addictive, and Varied Gameplay mechanics
+ Great Soundtrack
- Some Issues with the Camera

Also really glad there is going to be a dual language patch available on launch. As this is a game I really want to play in Japanese. I'm sure the English dub will be fine but this game looks so much like an anime I feel like it's a waste to not be hearing the original voices for it.

Anyone heard much about the Ashes of Creation MMORPG?

Unfortunately, I feel that it will probably suffer the usual fate of games in this genre - quickly go F2P, then go extinct.
A shame, as many of the ideas they are pushing sound pretty promising.

Also, having more successful games will always push a genre in new interesting directions (at least I believe so).

Until I watched their kickstarter video, I was pretty dismissive of it (I am very much blown out for MMORPG's nowadays - can't see why I should pay to do a job), but they almost had me converted till this scene

I get that people enjoy this system of combat - but, in my ever so humble opinion, the day can't come soon enough when the whole genre moves away from it...

I would love to have the music box from the King Edition. Too bad that it's not in the NA editions.
