I finished House of Cards a few days ago and I have to agree with what zellogan and Imp wrote about it; and still looking forward to the 2nd season.

Thank god both True Detective and TWD run over and over again on the night they air, since they air at the same time. Kinda bummed that the HBO Sunday night shows were off this week due to the Super Bowl...meh oh well

Yeah, I saw that True Detective isn't back until Sunday again; such a long wait . In the meantime, I've finally started Adventure Time; it's a relatively quick watch and so far, the episodes have been really fun. I think I'll start Bob's Burgers after a few seasons of Adventure Time.

Just finished Firefly and Serenity.

Much perfect. So characters. Many humor. Wow.

The movie lacked the same magic as the show, but was still quite good and provided the much-needed closure. I laughed out loud so many different times during this series. And it was sooooo refreshing to watch, both in the scifi genre and well... Just overall refreshing compared to everything else in any other genre as well.

Firefly is some brilliant shit. It a tragedy what Fox did to it.

I marathoned it with a friend last month; how brilliant. It's one of those shows that I can't believe I hadn't seen until recently and also question the people behind its axing. So well written, loveable cast and just their adventures and how they all come together.

And just this, seriously one of the best characters of the show and he appears right at the end:

I'm a firefly fan as well. I bought official tshirts and as far as I remember, It's the only official stuff that I bought for my clothes.

I don't even remember how many times I watched it. At least 4-5 times, possibly more.
Aside from the very good cast, other characters who are there for one or two episodes are great as well. My favourite guest is saffron. Episodes with her are the best.

Yeah, Super Bowl is on right now, TWD should come back next Sunday.

There is a wider picture. Fox gave it the friday night death slot (8pm) with no lead in. This is a program written by Joss Whedon (at the height of buffydom) that was about 2million an episode to make and they didnt even care to try and make it a success (they even had the opportunity to put it on the timeslot x files just vacated but they decided against it). They then took it off for a couple of weeks because baseball. Not to mention their airing order which was episode 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 4, 5, 9 , 10, 14, 1 then cancelled before the remaining three could be shown. Fox can go suck a giant back of dicks, the twats. It's debateable whether there was vindictiveness behind why they ruined it or not, but they are culpable for its low rating.

All that being said, it says nothing about how it would have done if it aired in order. There's enough examples of great shows getting cancelled. It's easy to blame FOX for all of those reasons, but if it was cancelled regardless of all of those things, then what would fans say? It aired before fans were able to gather online and try to save a show, like what they did with Family Guy and Fringe did, which both air/aired on FOX, so we know they've been open to such fan responses. So it leads me to believe there was something personal going on there. It doesn't really make sense otherwise.

It aired before fans were able to gather online and try to save a show, like what they did with Family Guy and Fringe did, which both air/aired on FOX, so we know they've been open to such fan responses. So it leads me to believe there was something personal going on there. It doesn't really make sense otherwise.

With better support it could have done better. Buffy took a little time before it got into its groove but it quickly gained a loyal fanbase, the same I think would have happened with Firefly. In any case there was a lot of coordinated attempts at stopping the cancellation, the show has a stupidly loyal fanbase. The fan response included ad campaigns in magazines (variety) as well as coordinated writing campaigns to reverse the decision. They're the main reason why Serenity was eventually filmed, they made way so much commotion that universal decided to give it a shot. If it was a decade later, I dont think fox would ignore the response, although they did release the dvd of all the episodes a year later because of the fan response but never brought the whole show back.

Unlike what seems like most of the internet, I'm not a Whedon fanboy. But it seems like a lot of overthinking and stupidity if someone at FOX didn't have a hard-on for Whedon.

The show debuted in the Friday slot of death, which means FOX didn't think much of it, or they considered it capable of reproducing the success the X-Files had in the same slot. I'd say it's probably the former. FOX did the same thing with Fringe, except the show was moved there after a couple seasons, already having a decent following, expecting them to follow it regardless of when it aired. They probably learned from the Firefly debacle by allowing it to conclude naturally with a set ending date.

Yeah, the mistake was probably spending a lot of money on it, and not getting the return they hoped for. But that's their own fault for airing it on Friday night and out of order. I think the latter is salt in the wound, so to speak. Most TV viewers are morons, so I'm not sure how much the order mattered when it comes to ratings. It didn't stop it from having the fans it did have, after all.

Yea they didnt think much of the project from the get go which doesnt make sense when you are spending 2 million per episode (back in 02 as well). There seems to have been a decision early on (they didnt bother with showing the pilot until it finished) that it was a waste, so they got it out of the way as quickly as possible.

It's not the biggest tragedy as its has a loose narrative arc but the scheduling and the constant changing (especially the stops and starts) had more of an effect than the episodic order I think. If comes on one week but not the next etc then comes on again, its a so haphazard that its almost not worth trying to watch.

Ron Glass was already old when starting firefly.

It was an awesome cast & secondary characters involved Christina Hendrickx (Mad Men) or Mark Sheppard (Battlestar Gallactica and supernatural).
