Tell me about it - my Pratchett reading group on Facebook keeps talking about the film adaptations as if they aren’t shite.. one of my “friends” hasn’t read a single Pratchett book (okay, she’s dyslexic, but still, there are audio books) but seems satisfied just watching the horrid adaptations. *shudders*

But this one has everything going for it. Neil Gaiman writing the teleplays and show-running – Douglas McKinnon directing – and honestly, the friggin’ cast of the decade.

The only thing which could still make or break the show in my eyes is Them. They’re an even more integral part of the book than Crowley and Aziraphale, and their scenes are some of the funniest. I hope they haven’t cut their part down and made it the Tennant and Sheen show, as much as I’m looking forward to them as well.

Any fans of Tim Minchin out there? He’s starring (and executive producing) in an upcoming series called Upright.

This has potential. He’s my favorite musician-comedian, a great guy in general. And just like he himself said, I’m also a sucker for stories with flawed, damaged characters as well as road trips through beautiful landscapes, especially combined.

I watched the first episode on FX a while ago. It wasn't as good as I wanted it to be. It relies really heavily on jokes that land about 5% of the time. The best I can say about it is that it wasn't unwatchable. That's about it though.

Sadly it's no Futurama.

So, Patrick Stewart is returning as Jean-Luc Picard for an untitled Star Trek series. Supposedly being set 20 years after the Nemesis movie. But it seems implied that it isn't a continuation of TNG, so I'm not really sure what to make of it honestly.

This looks interesting. Getting vibes of Eternal Sunshine, Black Mirror, even some Cloud Atlas?... but still seems to be its own thing.

And it’s from Cary Fukunaga who directed and produced all of True Detective S1. That plus the two leads are already enough to sell me on it.

Hm, just watched episode 1 and 2 of Disenchantment. It’s not bad. Given time to hit its stride like Futurama and The Simpsons got, it might get good. Some jokes were great, a lot of them hit the mark, but I feel most of it was rather “safe”. I’ll keep watching and see how it progresses.

Aye, begun (maybe 4 episodes or so?) - am not totally sold on it at the moment.
There are some things I really like... and some I really do not.

I've also found a load of the jokes to really miss the mark which is a shame considering the setting (I love fantasy settings), the writers (just look at their past works), and the quality of the characters (in general, I really like them)

I've heard that it gets much better towards the end of the (1st) series, but I've avoided spoilers like the plague

I hope that Disenchantment improves, the more I watch.
It's a series which I really want to be good [and do well, so it doesn't suffer cancellations a la Futurama].

Just watched the first episode. Please tell me it gets funnier.

The animation looks so good. I really want to love it. I loved Futurama. But, man, the success rate of this shows jokes was low for me. Like 3%. And what is up with the sound direction? It seemed almost eerily quiet for a an animated show.

Iron Fist: Season 2 7 / 10

I have to be honest here and I'm not bandwagoning or anything, but for ten episodes I figure they'd go the mile with Danny Rand's character and his conflict with himself and using the "Iron Fist". They still kept with the back and forth issues with Joy and Ward and I thought, maybe Danny would've stayed in Kun'lun or whatever and tried to learn more about his purpose or whatever.

And it seems they are trying to set up the "Daughters of Dragon" series with Colleen and Misty, which I'm fine with but it's not necessary to take up majority of the new season. Davos was okay, his purpose was more justified throughout the show and I was actually rooting more for him than the supposed hero. Even at the end, when Davos and Danny part ways, Davos made a valid point and all Danny could do was walk away with no rebuttal. Here's hoping for Season 3, if there is one.



Castle Rock 7 / 10

There's one episode left out of the 10 episodes, but I'll say this, the attempt to build a new story around references from past King novels in Castle Rock seems pretty simple with a bunch of red herrings all over the place. And it does at least feel like the typical conclusion in a Stephen King story. I think of the end of "Under the Dome" and how great that novel began, but ended horribly and Castle Rock feels the same way.



Preacher: Season 3 8 / 10

Aside from my issue with Ruth Negga's Tulip, who's so annoying and tries to showcase the hard as nails attitude, which I'm not buying. I did at least like the resolve with Jesse and his Grandmother. I expected some changes with Cassidy, but that was the most uninteresting parts of the shows towards the end, plus it was ten episodes like the first season too. And not much with God or Genesis for the matter, but Satan's cameos were fun.

I'm about 4 episodes into Iron Fist season 2.

It's a lot better than last season so far. Whoever wrote this did a lot a much better job. And I feel like the cast has been put into more of a position to succeed in general. I'd put it above season 2 of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones so far.

I can't believe I'm saying this but Iron Fist Season 2 was an 8/10 for me. I loved it.

Started a little slow but really took off at around episode 4. Davos was good. Maybe a little over the top but it suited his character to be that way a bit; even if he was drastically upstaged by the new Mary Walker character. That whole character really stole the show. She is awesome. I would watch a whole show about just her happily. Ward and Joy who were weaknesses in the first season for me really rocked it too. As the season went on I was actually looking forward to the next time they showed up. The Danny Rand and Colleen Wing characters were both even better too. It sort of picked up what worked about them in Defenders and moved that forward. It makes me think that acting wasn't really S1's problem it was almost all the bad writing. Because it's all the same actors and yet the show is entirely different in a good way.

The only weakness was how heavy they were hitting the Misty Knight and Colleen Wing team thing. They overplayed that to an almost goofy degree. Jessica Henwick has the charisma to sell just about anything but the instant BFF thing was pretty rough. Like something serious would happen and then they would step outside have like 5 minute girl talk sessions that feel completely out of place with that pacing.

And the ending was fantastic. I'm as hyped for another season of Iron Fist as much as I am of Daredevil which seems crazy.

Watched some cartoons in my free time o/

Disenchantment was an okay to good show. Not a lot going for in the first few episodes, but gradually picks up way later. I was more engaged in the characters and a bit of plot, and the comedy was more hit than miss, but it could have been a lot better. Still, it was great that it didn't suck in the end.

I gave it a 7/10

Bojack Horseman Season 5, though, it was amazing, as expected from this. I love the episodes, the moments, and the characters. It sets up a darker tone than in other seasons, and sends the message perfectly. While the comedy is a bit stale compared to the previous ones and it's not my favorite season overall, I find myself loving it through and through. As always with this show, I'm looking forward for more.

The Dragon Prince on Netflix is AMAZING. Like a 9.5/10

And this is coming from a guy that hates CG. But it's Avatar the Last Airbender writing in both style and quality. I loved Avatar and liked Korra but this show, based on the first 9 episodes, is better than both. There is no contest. It's got a good plot going. It's got great characters. It's also funny, unlike Disenchantment. I'm totally in on this.

I will also grudgingly admit that the CG style did grow on me. I stopped noticing it at around episode 2.

Okay, I watched it after all...

I’m still a bit concerned about the lack of the “Them” in updates, news and now the trailer. Honestly, I love Crowley and Aziraphale and they’re obviously very central to the story, but so many of the best parts of the book is centered on the Them and their interactions. They’re just as crucial, if not even more so, than the Archangel and Demon.

Though we did get to see what I’m assuming is Dog... or, was.

Daredevil: Season 3 10 / 10

This newest season really draws on Matt Murdock's past and present mostly and how his decisions in the long run as maintaining his private life as fighting crime as Daredevil versus continuing to be a Lawyer really brings on the pressure in a ground breaking way. Matt's new found relationship with Sister Maggie goes from 0 to 100 from episode 1 to 13 and it's amazingly done to fit well with the entire storyline. Wilson Fisk aka: Kingpin becomes more connected and ruthless than before in the previous seasons and he brilliantly shows how he can execute his power to get what he wants to any means. Foggy and Karen are fantastic in this season, their relationships with Matt, I think, keep him grounded to an extent.

There's Bullseye, who is the newest villain to join the series and I really like the Netflix version of this character and how he was sort of a mirrored version of Daredevil (literally speaking) and really added an important challenge to Matt from both sides. I was really impressed and wish the writers would use the same concentration and creativity in the others shows like this one.


p.s., it's been confirmed that both Iron Fist and Luke Cage were cancelled and Jessica Jones is still confirmed for a 3rd season as well as Punisher getting it's 2nd season next year. I'm pretty sure a 4th season of Daredevil will be continued and hopefully, will get a "Heroes For Hire" series featuring a combination of both Luke Cage and Iron Fist.

That's good to hear. I can't actually sit down to watch it for a couple days but I'm glad it didn't disappoint.

I was sad to hear that Iron Fist was cancelled but it's probably the right call. It's hard to get past the first season. It redeemed itself to me but a lot of people are just not going to give it the chance to do that. Though I really hope the bring some of the characters into other shows. Bloody Mary in particular but also Ward and Colleen. Danny might be good too in a supporting role.

Not sad to see Luke Cage go though, that show just never worked for me. I feel like he could be another one suited to a supporting role. Maybe for Jessica Jones as she doesn't really have much in the way of supporting characters anymore. It's pretty much the artist/handyman/single father she's banging and that's it.

Finished Daredevil Season 3. I enjoyed it as well. Like an 8/10 for me.

It was a little slow to start but once it got going it was great. Bullseye was pretty great. As was whoever played Agent Nadeem. The payoff on his story line and how that whole thing was done was really great. That was sort of the signature of this season, all the very strong character moments.

That said I did miss Electra and the pacing dragged a bit for me early on on during the big Karen backstory episode.

I guess Daredevil has been cancelled. Which I found surprising. Though maybe I shouldn't. I feel like Marvel overdid it with the Netflix expanded universe thing and they're paying the price for it a bit.

The only non-cancelled ones now are Jessica Jones and Punisher. Which have to be the next out the door.

Oh well, it was good while it lasted.
