He did not, he opted to skip Halle. He's not like Federer (Federer skipped Halle in 07/09 won wimbledon both those times) who seems to have little trouble transitioning his game from the dirt to the lawn so i think skipping Halle was a factor. He played Halle last year, lost early there then at wimbledon...maybe his style of play works for clay but is now detrimental on the grass despite his 5 straight Wimbledon finals :/

Azarenka's knee injury proves to be too much and she withdraws prior to her second round match.

I had a feeling something like this would happen; that he wouldn't make it past the 2nd round. Anna Ivanovic lost, don't think there's much surprise there is there?

Darcis didn't even play though, Bob. He apparently fell in the first set while diving at a ball and injured his shoulder. When he woke up this morning, he couldn't raise or swing his shoulder, so he was forced to withdraw. In his news conference afterward, he said that he's had shoulder problems for the last five years.

No, Ivanovic losing wasn't much of a surprise. Bouchard, last year's No. 1 Junior, looks like a good player. While we're at it, Ivanovic's first name is Ana, not Anna.

When he woke up this morning, he couldn't raise or swing his shoulder, so he was forced to withdraw. In his news conference afterward, he said that he's had shoulder problems for the last five years.

Regardless, I had a feeling he wouldn't make it past the following round. Well at least he had a good tournament. Hewitt also lost to a relatively uknown American( Brown, can't recall his first name). He made some incredible shots during the match, I saw some of it.

Um, I saw part of the match. Dustin Brown's German. Weren't you paying attention to the scoreboard, or do UK sports networks not show nationalities?

The tennis scoreboard for us looks like this:

Brown GER 6 6 6 6
Hewitt AUS 4 4 7 2

Yes, they said Bouchard did win that last year.

and i have to watch reister vs melzer though tsonga vs gulbis was way more entertaining

LOL I probably wasn't paying attention BBC does show nationalities just the way you posted.

If he's 28 and mostly only competes in Challenger tournaments like they mentioned, then he's way past "hype-age".

What's going on today? huge number od dropouts and now Sharapova has lost. Looks like a clear path has been paved for Serena to grab the title, no?

Apparently the grass is slipperier than normal and they've forced the players to wear shoes that don't have very much traction. A lot of players have slipped and gotten injured.

Tsonga fell and had to retire in his match against Gulbis.

The entire bottom half of the women's draw is wide open. Anyone could be a finalist at this point. It'll be Serena against the bottom half at this rate.

Fed is losing, I saw SO many retirements...isner, stepanek, tsonga. Cilic withdrew this is an odd odd tournament...

I don't know who to root for now...um....Idk gulbis? (not happening lol) I guess I'll root for Englands Wimbledon title drought to end.

Federer drops to 5 in the world with this loss, first time out of the top 5 in like 10 years i think? Nadal is 4

If Murray doesn't make it to the Final, he'll have thrown away perhaps his best chance to ever win Wimbledon. Only having to beat one of the other Big 3 is huge for him, especially as he would've had to face one of Nadal or Federer in the SFs if they'd all played as expected.

Murray for the love of God please take this crown, this is the best chance you will have in a long time, if not ever. As much as the slippery grass has affected a lot of the results on this "Black Wednesday", credit has to go those players advancing to the next rounds.

Murray's reaction to the recent defeats sums it up perfectly:

"Upsets happen every single day in sport, you can't take any match for granted," said Murray.
"You can't write people through to semi-finals or quarter-finals, you need to be ready for every match, every player is a threat.
"If you look at the consistency of the top players at the Slams in the last few years, it's something tennis has never really seen before, it has been incredible.
"That was never going to last forever. When guys have slight dips in form then the young players will improve and raise their levels. I think there has been good depth in the men's game for a long time and it's just now that results are starting to show it."

Just saw Federers press conference...he tried to remain positive despite sounding dead inside. He said one thing that really stuck out (paraphrased of course):

You guys were hyping up me and Rafa in the quarters...and now neither of us are in the tournament...maybe you guys shouldn't do that? It's disrespectful to the other players. Wins like this are their way of saying "we're here too"

People (myself included) have a bad habit of penciling in top players to reach X point in the tournament and things like this happen to keep us in check so to speak.

That said...MurrayVic era truly beginning? if they make the finals, they would have contested 3 of the last 4 GS finals, and met in 3/4 of the GS finals.
