His confidence should be SKY HIGH at the moment. He's gotten two major monkeys off his back:
-Ending the brits wimbledon title drought first and foremost.
-Ceasing ANY thoughts of him being a one slam wonder.
Nothing to do but keep winning. Also, he and Djoker have contested 3 of the last 4 finals. Murray has been in 4 of the last 5 finals...Murryvic era has definitely started.

While I didn't see the match, Federer lost to a qualifier named Delbonis in a pair of tiebreaks in the Hamburg SFs.

Ah, I see. Still, even with a new racquet, he shouldn't be losing to a qualifier, although, being Argentinian, Delbonis is probably a clay court specialist.

Do you remember that guy a numbers of years ago who failed a drug test, came back a while later, beat Fed twice in a row (one time was when he was a lucky loser) and got to like No. 14 in the world, but then failed another drug test and we haven't heard from him since? I believe that his name was Guillermo Cañas.

Yeah Canas! Beat Federer in 07 in Indian Wells/Miami. It was one of the early signs that Federer was becoming more vulnerable a player. Canas retired in 2010, he went on to coach Ernests Gulbis for a year.

Yup. Federer has still added a significant number of titles to his total since then, but around that time was when Federer's true dominance ended.

So that's what happened to him.

Remember how Gonzo made it to an Australian Open Final and then more or less vanished about two years later? He apparently retired in 2012.

I remember Gonzo was riddled with injuries towards the end of his of his career, almost forgot about the fearhand of chile haha. A lot of players just quietly retire or just disappear even when active (like Nalbandian) makes me sad .

So we have 2 Masters tournaments back this month, in preparation for the US Open at the end of the month. First up is Montreal which starts tomorrow.
Federer will be missing due to back injury but the rest of the top 7 players will be in action at least. Djokovic is aiming for a third consecutive win there in Canada. Do you guys think he'll get it?

I don't know. Djokovic isn't playing at the level that he was two years ago. He could easily win the US Open this year, but he's having a bit of a down year.

My 2¢

He's playing fine imo...he's no 2011 Djoker though. It's also that Murray has stepped up. I think we're entering the Murray era. I like Murray to win the rogers cup, also interested in seeing how Nadal fairs on hardcourts since thats basically what he's going to have to play on for the rest of the year.

As for Djoker winning the USO easily...Murray beat him last year, and has become a better player since then and is brimming with confidence now after winning Wimbledon. And then there's Del Potro watching him destroy Isner yesterday was great. Grass used to be Del Po's "worst" surface, if he's taking Djoker to 5 there i think a USO match could go either way.

Atobe, when I said "easily," I didn't mean that it would be a walk in the park for Djokovic, just that it could easily happen, as in it's not a very farfetched idea. He's been in each of the last three USO Finals, losing two and winning one.

Neither did I. Perhaps she thinks her tennis career will never get better and that it's better to give it up now while she's sort of on top (not really, but you know what I mean).

The reports had been that she was pretty injured and her body was all beaten up. I watched a live interview with her on ESPN2 (US channel) today and she seemed pretty upset about it. She said that she wasn't willing to not be able to put 100% of her effort out there and only being able to go at 50% wasn't going to do it for her. It was either all tennis or no tennis. I had thought that she was sort of just throwing in the towel, but it really seemed as if she's kind of broken down physically and just wants to take the stress off of her body.

Isner over Djoker is a shock, Berdych over Murray too...berd has been so quiet since wimbledon.

I think Berdych has a matchup advantage against Murray.

This is excellent news for Nadal, he can take Berdych; the latter sometimes seem to struggle against him. Surprised to see Djokovic losing to Isner of all people.

Right, so this looks like it's the end for Roger for real. He's not retiring right now, but I think he should. He shouldn't let his ranking keep slipping and start losing left and right. While I've never supported Fed, I don't want to see him losing to people left and right. Robredo is a guy he's dominated his entire career, but tonight, Fed was unable to compete with a man who's never been able to threaten him.
