Re: The Tennis Thread

Lmao when i saw him squander the break points at 5-5 i said out loud. "JFC lol, rafa won" And then he did. Nadal's interview on espn was..funny, he's charismatic but he took digs at some players. Saying players with big serves like Anderson and Kyrgios "don't have to think" which is pretty rude but eh.

Speaking of Kyrgios i enjoyed his five setter. Apparently the last teenager to make it to the quarters or better for multiple majors was Federer. He's in an elite category...that said.....Murray Smokes him i think.

As for the twirl...i thought the whole thing was just silly...and creepy. Poor Bouchard i can't imagine this happening to a lot of other players.

Re: The Tennis Thread

Yeah, Nadal was there for the taking at 5-5, but Anderson just didn't have it.

All the top guys make questionable interviews at times.

I fell asleep at 3-0 or 4-1 in the third, so I expected to see that Kyrgios maybe won the third, but still lost the match.

Well, the commentator had previously asked Serena to twirl, so...

Re: The Tennis Thread

Oooh, i only heard about the Bouchard incident (haven't really been keeping up with the womens half ha).

Yeah they do give "funny" interviews, but this is the first time I recall Nadal being in ESPNs booth so it was the longest interview of his I've ever seen. Anyways...Stan isn't defending this title...he looks ordinary but then again he has every tournament until he runs into one of the big guns.

Re: The Tennis Thread

Garcia-Lopez screwed that tiebreak up so much. It was reminiscent of Roddick's second set tiebreak fail against Federer in his last Wimbledon Final.

Re: The Tennis Thread

Serena makes it through against Muguruza, who knocked her out of the last French. I didn't watch the match but saw the highlights and it was the first time watching Muguruza play. In that first set especially , she could outhit Serena, not something I've seen done often....if she can improve her all round game, she'd be a threat to anyone.

Re: The Tennis Thread

I actually caught reruns this morning. She played that first set really well...commentators were saying the same (how she could outhit serena). She's seeded so she's on the right path.

Re: The Tennis Thread

Nishikori beat David Ferrer to advance and face Wawrinka; the japanese player has somewhat gone under the radar for me; I've not heard his name mentioned until now but good to still see him in the mix.

Venus also advances; her first GS 1/4 since US Open 2010. :/

What are you talking about, Bob? Nishikori was last year's losing US Open Finalist. He's definitely in the mix.

Well his name hasn't popped once on my Eurosport where I see headlines about matches and stuff until today's victory; that's what I mean.

Re: The Tennis Thread

Wow really? he is the most successful asian male player to date. He has wins over the big 4 minus Nadal (injury at madrid saved nadal). Had made slam finals and at this rate could be number 3 in the world after this tournament should the stars align.

Speaking of stars Aligning...Berdych is dismantling Rafa "nobody beats Tomas Berdych 18 times in a row"? i guess?

Re: The Tennis Thread

I can't see how Djokovic isn't going to win this lmao. Berdych snapped a 17 match losing streak....

Assuming Murray beats Kyrgios, Berdych has a 6-4 head to head advantage over Murray, so we might see Djokovic vs Berdych for the title.

Re: The Tennis Thread

If my math is correct...if Nishikori beats stan and at least makes the semis...he becomes number 3 :V.

Yeah Berdych can definitely beat Murray and he's likely brimming with confidence after that Nadal win.

No, because you're looking at the live page wrong. If Kei beats Stan to get to the SF, he gets to 5565, which would still be below Nadal's 5745. Kei needs to make it to the Final to get to No. 3 during the AO.

We'll see what happens.

Yeah you're right, idk why i was looking at next points as if it was current points. He's got other chances though haha.

For sure...Nadal still has a lot of points to defend. Those Roland Garros points, for example, We've said for several years that this will be the year that Nadal loses the FO title, but it hasn't happened yet.

Re: The Tennis Thread

It's not as apparent..but Nadal, like Federer, is getting old. He said so himself (in tennis years anyway). Last year showed that the inconsistency that comes with age is creeping in.
