I thought this is quite funny. MS has scanlated series of "Weekly Shonen Jump Author Comments" and the recent issue featured Shimabukuro's drawing of Ryo-san from Kochikame in a comical way as a character in Toriko.

I’m currently rereading this. This manga was so fun and I’m convinced the Gourmet World is what inspired the Dark Contenint in HunterxHunter.

I imagine Togashi had the idea in mind before it was actually put to paper (especially when YYH already had the Demon World). But as usual, impossible to know for sure.

Though he did say he doesn't really read other (current) battle manga.

Regardless, Toriko itself wouldn't exist without HxH since it took the whole concept of Gourmet Hunters. : P
