You can be overrated by personality simply because of what they do can piss you off, like what Ken said with Rikkaidai members. Personality alone, I find Momo overrated. You can find personality/popularity to be overrated - basically anything that annoys you.
If you want to be more specific to strength, then the topic should be overestimated vs underestimated.

Another overrated person with personality problems is Horio lol
i still dont see how momo is overrated, he's a lovable guy with awesome tennis, Both technical and Powerful, plus, he's probably the only POT character with a REAL DEDICATED rival, not to mention he (unlike ryoma who was equally as shit) became a great doubles players (see momo/kaidoh pair :D), more charatcher development with momo than almost any POT characters, and has been there since ep/chapter 1, not introduced in later chapters like other chars
Chapter one, Honestly candie you stink of seigaku hate (as usuall)
Momoshiro probably has THE most character development ( waay more screen time than atobe),
HE's honestly not a one move spammer (although now he has the optiion of doing so
in fact, not much characters have his diversity in playstlye
he has the snake moves plus his own, and shares fuuji's unique sense of the wind, making for some "lucky sengoku" style play
Overall a fun guy , a perfect balance of awesome interesting tennis and comic relief, Rikkai characters might (although in reality its only 3-4 of them) are better than him, but they arent as fun and if you want to talk about overated, maybe a guy who plays tennis by doing a 50% copy of another guys impossible style of tennis instead of finding his own seems overrated, Fuuji and momoshiro are probably the most original guys in the series
so no, fuuji being a total loser doesnt make him overated (nor your taking something obviously figurative that he said completely literal) and momo is by far the most popular character because, well, he's the one that people are more attracted to (reasons stated above)
Shiraishi is also overrated, he simply gained popularty for beating fuuji (from the fuu haters) after that he wasn't even as good as the no.18/19 when players like atobe , Yukimura and Toyoma are nearer to G10 level and the others like fuuji, marui and sanada are keeping up pretty well. hell even oishi has more purpose as a doubles player. Would say that atobe is overrated for having impossible moves, but i cant, because atobe actually plays amazing tennis, that guy deserves all his love and then some

Shiraishi beat fuji with the gauntlet on. Fuji easily beat red eye akaya. Shiraishi is easily top 15 MSers.

Just remember momo was destroyed by inui.

@Fuji Genichiro: Stop Seigaku fanboying. Current Seigaku are inferior to Rikkaidai. 5 Rikkaidai's were chosen to represent Japan compared to only Fuji and Oishi from Seigaku.
Seigaku are overrated in terms of how annoying and overestimated they are.

Well if you count ryoma and tezuka you would get 4 since they are both on teams better than japan.
Some of seigaku is overrated and they are inferior to hyoutei and shitenhouji also.

Even if Tezuka and Ryoma were counted, there are still more Rikkaidai. 6 if you count Mouri Juzabori, a HSer.
I find Rikkaidai is superior than Shitenhoji whose superior to Hyotei, Higa and Seigaku. The only reason why Shitenhoji didn't defeat Seigaku at the nationals was because of plot advancement. Its like this: Rikkaidai>Shitenhoji>Hyotei/Seigaku>Higa.

Now maybe hyoutei and shitenhouji but before no way
These are lineups from when they played with fuji instead of momo
Hyoutei- fuji beats yuushi. Kaidou/inui beat wakashi/gakuto. Tezuka loses to kabaji. (He won because it rained) ryoma loses to atobe. Eiji/oishi could go either way. (They can't stop ootori's serve)
Shitenhouji- kaidou/momo lose to comedy pair. Gin destroys kawamura. Shiraishi beat fuji. Tezuka/inui beat chitose. Ryoma loses to toyama. (He was out of stamina after 1 point he couldn't even last a game.)
Rikkai- kaidou/inui lose to akaya/yanagi. Fuji beats niou. Golden pair wins. Tezuka loses to sanada(he can only use Tezuka phantom to stop lightning and his elbow will be destroyed. Yukimura beats ryoma.
That is how those games should have gone.
Now it isn't fair because tezuka and ryoma automatically win and fuji most likelywins also.

Niou would have defeated Fuji if it weren't for plot advancement. If Fuji never got over Niou's Tezuka illusions, he'd lose to Niou.

^ Me too. Less focus on Seigaku and more focus on the HSers mentoring the MSers.
Its okay for the central character to lose. Atobe is the main Japanese MSer and he lost a few times. Tezuka is the main rival, he lost a few times. Why can't Ryoma? Losing will give him some character development (as in lose in official matches not unofficial ones).

This apply to most win in any manga series. In the end, it's all plot.

Here's the thing about Rikkai. Their strength simply come from the fact that they're the last boss of the series. Without that, the characters in Rikkai will not receive any upgrade they got in that last match (No Rai and In for Sanada, No Illusion for Niou, for example).

It's to note that at first Konomi stated in the interview that he plan for different enemies for Seigaku in the final but decide fan want to see more Rikkai instead. If that's not plot bs, then nothing Seigaku done is bs as well. At least Seigaku didn't gain any upgrade or extra match because fan want them to.

Even without those powerups rikkai is still top 2 teams. They are a good team they have 2 great doubles, 2 singles that are invincible, and 1 single that is good.

Without Yukimura (He wouldn't play so there's no match for him), Rai and in, Illusion, demon mode (it's the reason they win semi-final in the first place), it's a lot debatably harder to just put them higher than Shitenhouji.

And really, even without power up, their power also come from *PLOT* that they are the running champion team in kantou.

Let's face it, Seigaku is a stronger team than them. Then if we go with Konomi actually want from the interview, there would also be ANOTHER school stronger than them.

So yes, Ryoma win by plot. Rikkai also win by plot. Everyone win by plot.

There's a famous story on tactics where a general is in a horse racing contest against his king and he knows that every horse the king has of the same tier as his horse is better, and he was allowed to setup the match up in any arbitrary order, so he consulted his advisor and his advisor said just race his worst horse against the king's best, and then his best against the king's second best, and then his second best against the king's worst horse (but can be generalized to any number greater than 3) and won the contest 2-1.

That's pretty much what Seigaku does. Ryoma, until the finals in nationals, is pretty much the worst Seigaku singles player out of the obvious 3 guys for S1/S2/S3 (Tezuka/Fuji/Ryoma), but he usually picks up the opponent's #1 option. Just by superior tactics (Tezuka/Fuji will clean up the S2/S3 for matching up against guys below their tier and Golden Pair is usually almost a guaranteed win too) this already is a huge edge for Seigaku, but of course we know Ryoma also goes on to inexplicably win against the #1 option all the time, even though all he has is Muga copying a bunch of useless moves until his game against Yukimura. I mean, he doesn't even have any real good moves to copy until he saw Rai. There's a 'ask Rikkai' section where a fan asked Sanada how come he doesn't copy moves with Muga and Sanada is like 'why would I want to copy inferior moves compared to my own?' and that's quite spot on. We see that Ryoma uses his moves completely at random so it's not like he's just copying a top tier move like Zero Drop Shot or Ka repeatedly, but even if he did it'd be hard to imagine copying just one move over and over would make him even better than Fuji, and of course we know he sure copies a whole mess of useless moves. The most hilarious example of how much Ryoma sucks at copying is that he usually copies Big Bang Serve without realizing this is a move that's clearly dependent on the user's strength and is thus useless to him, since he is obviously nowhere strong enough to knock anyone's racket off (and never has succeeded).

Actually, since Seigaku always have a nearly optimal matchup (Ryoma, their in theory worst singles player, usually gets the opponent's best singles player) and even though Ryoma always defy the odds and win the match that's definitely should be a throw away match, that kind of says a lot about how badly outmatched Seigaku is.

Ryoma is a wild card rather the worst player. His match with Fuji never really did go anywhere. Tezuka is better than him for most part of the story, yes, but didn't matter too much.
