ah sure Iori doesn't know he's a future legend yet or something. What I meant was- the experience of witnessing something like that from a (safe to say) revered swordsman. @_@

For a little kid who lost his samurai father, it must have been amazing.

I don't understand this Musashi... he left Otsu and that kid whose name I forgot, only to find himself another kid and settle down.

I like how he corrected Iori's stance before he told him it would be cowardly to kill them...

From what I have read Otsu was presented as Musashi's vision of idealized, perfect, chivalrous love in the original novel. They part ways as teenagers, never consummate their love, never argue, never fight, and never have to see the other grow old. It is a vision of "pure", courtly love, unhindered by the wickedness of the flesh as only a 17th century samurai or medieval knight could imagine it. Musashi can hold Otsu up as an ideal, as the principle of what love should be, without the dirty business of reality clouding his vision. I do not think Inoue has really tried to portray this, but from what I know of the real legend, that is Otsu's role.

Musashi seems to regret abandoning Jotaru, it was certainly on his mind before he decides to stay with Iori. At the time he met Jotaru he would have been a horrible surrogate father, dragging a boy along to some incredibly bloody duals. Imagine the escape from the Yoshiaki if Jotaru was in tow. At this stage in life Musashi seems more interested in settling down than proving his manhood. I suspect Musashi will give up on trying to tend that ruined field, and instead seek employment as a retainer, as an actual samurai, bringing Iori to the relative safety of a lord's castle. Musashi may recall that in their last conversation, Takuan offered him the position of sword coach to the Tokugawa shogunate in Edo.

he'll have to take it, because he'd have to have some level of comfort to be able to write a book. And getting a big position legitimizes all the legends running across the country about his sword skills- thusly, his name rings forever down Japan's history.

well I mentioned in the Seinen Hangout that I was reading REAL. and I noticed that the art was not as, say, masterful, as Vagabond- even if he's doing them at the same time.

Real would be his relaxation manga- something he could do with his eyes closed. And Vagabond would be the one that causes him emotional out-pours and wrings his soul out of his life lol.

Marathon this manga in one day all I could say the art is the best the battle is the best!... All of the people rate this as one of the best is not lying a must read manga!... Glad to read it when it is back hope that the final arc will be finish and no hiatus anymore ^^...
Now that you know the story you should go and re read it at a really slow pace. When I was reading Vagabond back then I had a close look at every page's art at musashi's expressions and enjoy the beauty of it the most. Feel the intense atmosphere during fights and let yourself be dragged into the fights.

I didn't realize there was two new chapters until just the other day. I really wish someone would translate them, even just a text file would be awesome.
