It is funny. Chitose and Tachibana are supposed to be equal. But:
I think if the matchup is Yanagi VS Chitose. I would have went with Chitose. (Chitose can use Muga and Saiki so data is useless against him. Since Yanagi wouldn't know what chitose will copy)
But for Yanagi VS Tachibana. I think Yanagi's data will be effective against him.
Tachibana doesnt have any auras. No Saiki. Not even Muga. So the only ace he have is abare dama. And I don't think he can just spam it whole game. No Player in POT world can use their special shots for the whole 3 set game.
Yanagi have Kamataichi and Utsutsemi too. It will get some points imo.
Saiki/Data still work on Muga since Chitose used it against Tezuka. I think it's notable that Chitose's Saiki went "off" when he faced Abare Dama.
Tachibana has the Beast Aura that gives him "a buff similar to Muga no Kyouchi".
Idk, Kaidou's bread and butter is the Snake and he does SEVERAL every single point.

Yanagi Renji
One of the top three players in Rikkai, he is a master strategist who is known for his accurate judgement. He is so knowledgable that is called a walking dictionary.
Supplemental Info:
-As a child, he once broke Inui's eyeglasses, but he reported it immediately and was forgiven.
-He sometimes picks up Kirihara at his home, since he's often late for morning practice.
School (Year, Class, Number): Rikkai University Middle School (3rd Year Class F No. 19) Birthday: 06/04 (Gemini) Blood Type: Type A Hobbies: Reading (Literature) Family Members: Grandparents - Parents - Older Sister Position in Club: Treasurer Committee: Student Council (Secretary) Favorite Color: White Favorite Food: Anything, but prefers mild flavours. Thing he wants most: Japanese literature. Thing you're bad at: People who are sloppy with money or time. Specialty outside of tennis: Mental Arithmetic, Haiku, Go, Shogi, and Tea Ceremonies.
Stats:
Speed - 3: Data Tennis is only effective if you have the ability to precisely move to the spot where you anticipate the opponent's ball will be hit.
Power - 3: He is able to generate power even with a thin body because he always works out with a weight attached to his body.
Stamina - 3: His playstyle aims for victory without wasting energy, and as such his endurance never seems to decline.
Mental - 4: His strength comes from the answers derived from his calculations. On the other hand, these calculations become fragile when challenged.
Technique - 5: His accurate judgement is supported by a high technique that allows him to hit the ball exactly where it is aimed.
Kurobe Memo:
He is a very quick-thinking player. However, human beings are creatures of possibility. I would like him to come out of his shell by realising that his predictions do not always come true.
Image 1: Move where your opponents cannot go. Hit where their arm cannot swing. He sticks to the basics in order to win.
Image 2: The calculation that led Kirihara's path was correct.
Image 3: He has potential in other areas outside of data.

Tachibana Kippei
One of the former Wings of Kyuushu, who wears the aura of a ferocious beast (Moujou no Aura). He reformed his personality and now leads the new club he he has built in Fudomine.
Supplemental Info:
-An sometimes posts his creations on Cookpad, a website used to post recipes, and they have become very popular.
School (Year, Class, Number): Fudomine Middle School (3rd Year Class 6 No. 11) Birthday: 08/15 (Leo) Blood Type: Type O Hobbies: Cooking (Japanese cuisine) Family Members: Great-grandmother - Grandparents - Parents - Younger Sister Position in Club: Captain and Coach. Committee: Sports committee member. Favorite Color: Indigo Favorite Food: Dim Sum. Thing he wants most: A Chinese hot pot. Thing you're bad at: Computers. Sweets. Specialty outside of tennis: Ironing. Peeling daikon radishes.
Stats:
Speed - 3: His mobility gives the impression of a heavy vehicle, and just like a tank it is actually more than what you'd expect.
Power - 5: With his considerable Power, he acquired a style that is all about aggression, ferocious like a wild beast.
Stamina - 4: In the process of gaining beast-like Power (Moujou), he also improved his Stamina. He has great endurance and is able to fight for long periods of time without losing his style.
Mental - 5: Having once given up on tennis, he is determined to do anything. It's impossible for him to be defeated emotionally.
Technique - 3: He is the type who tries to fight head-on without emphasizing the use of fine techniques, even if he can use them.
Kurobe Memo:
It seems like he was leading the team like a man. As a player, he must have grown significantly during his time away. Why not bring back some of his free-spirited self?
Image 1: He is very manly, and the "big brother" component in him is only getting stronger.
Image 2: His aggressive style of play is still alive and well. He and his friend Chitose are also back together.
I think I'll go with Yanagi, since Tachibana's profile says he prefers to fight head-on which should limit the scenarios the Rikkai player has to consider. I think his only way to win is spamming Abare Damas, without that he's pretty much a Devil! Kirihara focused on Power instead of Speed and Yanagi already annihilated that one.
If this was plot based I give it to Tachibana. I can imagine him losing the first set but eventually his Moujou would surprass Yanagi's data, which in turn would break him mentally. Yanagi is admittedly more of a doubles player, too.
Seriously Idk how to factor such things as: Character is "A Singles Player" or " A Doubles Player"
Ryoma is a Very Strong Singles Player. But even now, he is a very trash doubles player.
Meanwhile Kintarou a Singles Player in his whole life suddenly became arguably the strongest Doubles Mser Japan has to offer by Just training with Ohmagari for a few days? Lmao.
Byodoin and Oni are arguably top 2 Strongest Japan Hser Singles Player. But they are weak in doubles as Ochi/Mouri implied that they are stronger in doubles. And Byo/Oni doesnt understand doubles.
Now, for doubles specialists:
Is Bertie weak in singles? Or Dankmar?
Bismarck is both strong in Singles and Doubles though. As well as Tanegashima
Going back,
I go with Yanagi too. I bet more on his data rather than bet on Tachibana's ability to spam abare dama.
And I am not sure we can just assume Yanagi cannot return Abare Dama???
I'm going with Yanagi. I actually considered demon Akaya stronger than Tachibana, and Yanagi can gather that data so I think beating Tachibana is within realm of possibility for him
I think Demon Akaya at the start of Npot was above Tachibana, and Yanagi shut him down like nothing.
I don’t think that currently Yanagi can’t do anything about it since he should eventually return Abare Dama with enough data. Because Tachibana outside of that and Abare Jishi isn’t that versatile, on the long run Yanagi should predict everything about him by correcting his data.

I'd consider it a tiny boost unless the character is said to be a specialist or outright terrible at either style.
Bertie is probably not weak at singles but is better at doubles paired with someone that can cover for him (Eg on his own he seemingly had no way to return Duke Homerun) plus he was said to be someone that doesn't care about reaching the No.1 spot (so he'd probably lose when it comes to 1on1 determination).
Chitose only returned Abare Dama because Tachibana aimed at his blindspot. Saiki went off the moment he faced the move. It was used as a finisher against Washio/Suzuki, too, so it's not a move that lost efficiency in NPoT.
Granted, there's a decent chance that the more Tachibana used it = the more data Yanagi has on it = the less effective it becomes (since there's seemingly just 1 ball that Yanagi needs to return and Tachibana aims it). Yanagi returned the Knuckle Serve like it was nothing, for example, and in theory the receiver needs to guess where it'll go since "only Kirihara knows where it'll bounce".
Funny, why DM! Kirihara > Tachibana? Konomi went as far as showing that base Tachibana has better base stats (or at least, better stats with Moujou).

Thats it. Yeah. Your last paragraph settles it. Tachibana's spamming Abare Dama will just be less effective the more frequent Tachibana used.
Also, just to add a thing. Tachibana might not be able to return Cicada (Utsusemi).
Wiki might be wrong, but it is said to be similar to Tezuka's zero shiki drop shot.
Did Tachibana able to display that he can return drop shots like those? I am forgetting
He caught up to Chitose using Marui's tightrole walking (that leaves the ball right next to the net) and used that as a setup to get hit in the eye lol.

I'm inclined to think Yanagi's Specials are a non-factor, tbh.
Yeah. Although they are kinda transitioning to be more of a doubles players right now. Kintarou, Shiraishi, and Akaya converting from Singles Players to Doubles Specialists.
Makes sense. Since Ryoma and Atobe will always have Singles Spot for Japan in the Future.
Not really relevant but I don't think Atobe was that strong in PoT, I'd put him next to Fuji in their own tier (and Kin somewhere around there). Niou and Yanagi (and Kite?) belong to that last group, too.
I'm not seeing how anything Sanada has counters Fuji.
Tokugawa (on Asura's Path but holding back) was able to deal with the double clutch perfectly fine, the triple clutch isn't a thing yet. Sanada only started scoring once he started giving his moves a clutch (but Tokugawa was still holding back, he probably could return them just fine at full power). It doesn't look like he has perfect control of this either, he lost the final point of the match launching a clutch out.
Meanwhile Fuji showed he can rally normally against TnK using Light Wind, Sanada didn't show anything like that.
Wouldn't Hollyhock Blizzard counter Blaze, since Fuji can now put even more strength in his counters against smashes? What Blizzard move does Sanada have? I didn't get your argument here.
The SSS alone counters Rai. Ryoma didn't dare to use Hope against Fuji so it's safe-ish to assume Fuji can indeed hit it (imo, at least).

But Sanada counters him how?
Tokugawa was holding back so Sanada keeping his serve thrice against him isn't that great of a feat (if it is measurable at all).
