I think it's a matter of the coaches, particularly Mifune, just trusting the MSers growth and synergy with the High Schoolers. Japan as a whole has the best MSer pool in the tournament from what we see. They don't have the best MSer, but definitely the largest number of high tier ones. And each one evolves remarkably quickly.
Also Mifune does just pick on whims, man literally paired Kimijima and Shiraishi just because they are handsome.
Arguably he is fishing for Howlings.
Also from a meta sense, it would be boring if every match was Byoudin, Oni, Duke, Tanegashima, Yukimura, Kintarou, Ryoma
It's the same reason Seigaku kept fielding Fuji/Takashi despite the pair sucking and wasting #2 Fuji on it or why Eiji was in S2 against Higa. It's more fun for the viewer
As for other countries, they're hardly relevant after their match with Japan besides Germany so there's no point in making more than the minimum number of guys

Long post short, the match order is largely irrelevant for deciding strength outside of S1 usually
Seigaku best lineup is always been

Golden pair in D1 and then just alternating Tezuka, Ryoma, and Fuji in S1, S2, S3.

But Ryuzaki sensei said their weakness in D2. Since Inui, Kaido, Momo, and even Takamura are more of a Singles Player.

Thats why they experimenting pairs like Momo/Kaido, Fuji/Taka, Fuji/Kikumaru, and even Momo/Taka.

Fortunately, Inui Kaido pair developed to be decent along the way.

So the best lineup Seigaku have were

Doubles: Golden Pair and Inui/Kaido

Singles: Tezuka, Fuji, Ryoma

Making Momoshiro and Takamura just reserved if you do it logically strength wise.

But as you said. Momo and Taka need games too as characters.

Yep.

I always have this head canon that Hsers VS Hsers Japan will probably lose to the big 5 Countries. As Konomi originally planned that Hsers will lose and Msers will win.

Agreed. Which means we cannot get any sort of conclusion from Sanada playing S2 there.

Imo there's still not a clear winner here. Shiraishi dominated Kin thanks to data. Sanada has a bunch of cool moves that we have no idea how strong they are.

Would Sanada dominate Kin if he was in Shiraishi's position?

Going a bit offtopic so gonna spoiler it.

That still makes no sense, though. Mouri/Ochi just became the best pair in the country (that's their potential) and had been training together for months. How can Mouri/Yanagi possibkly be better?

Seigaku had a lot of training sessions against Fudomine, St Ru and Rokkaku where they tested pretty much every doubles pair they could. I reckon Kawamura/Fuji performed quite well in those since Ryuzaki kept bringing it up (hell, they were meant to play Hyotei's D1 before Oishi was brought back into the line up, which somehow means Taka has better chemistry with Fuji than Eiji).

The gap in singles for Momo and Eiji in the Nationals is certainly not as big as Byoudouin and Sanada, if there's even any since they both have 16 in stats (even if Momo went to the mountains) and Kikumaru has three 4s which allows him to beat a wider range of opponents.

So yeah, while in PoT you can justify even weird choices like these somehow, in the end we are only left with a meta answer in NPoT: the NT has too many players and Konomi has way too many ideas for them so he can sell merch. Why the hell did he skip a whole round then? I'll never know.

Going back to topic.

Yeah. I will still go with Sanada.

His improved Furikazan is too much. Not to mention Black Aura and Triple Bend Slash.

I dont think Entaku shot will even be a problem for Sanada. But Sanada's Lightning and Blaze and Blizzard will be too much for Shiraishi to handle imo

Too much for what? Why? Doesn't a strike like the Entaku Shot prove that Shiraishi (eveb back when his technique was less than 4) doesn't need to use the guts to hit the ball, and as such he has a counter for Rai?

Tokugawa has 4.5 all his stats and kept his serve against Sanada while holding back, why can't Shiraishi and his 7s accomplish the same?

While we can't say conclusively since we don't know the specifics of Star Bible. Presumably he picks a stat for thevpoint and focuses that. They make mention when Shiraishi switches to Stamina so he likely doesn't switch on the fly, otherwise he'd just have 7s.
As such Sanada's wide breadth of moves and playstyles should give him advantage to score against which statvhe isn't using
But Sanada prefers a head on challenge and would likely try to overpower Shiraishi's current 7 in any given situation.

I've convinced myself that Sanada would win on paper, but lose when personality is taken into account

He can switch almost immediately and was getting increasingly better at it. Against Kintarou he caught up to all shots thanks to a 7 in speed, and then when he had to hit he switched to a 7 in technique. Sanada would need a move that requires Shiraishi to need two 7s at once to return, otherwise it's not getting past his opponent.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

A move that splits the ball into several like Pirates of the World would do the trick.

Quoting 10.5:

The needed components for "hitting 10 Balls":

(1) An [Accurate Stroke] to return 10 balls.
(2) [Reflex Sensitivity] to be able to detect the ball.
(3) [Mental Strength] to take on the encroaching ball.
(4) [Vision] to be able to distinguish between the 10 balls.

So you need high Speed, Mental and Technique to do it.

I think Sanada capped at 5 bao and none of his moves do something like that, though.

Purely speculatory but if he can bend the 10 balls individually with Black Aura then he'd have a very formidable weapon.

Also Sanada can bend Rai. So he needs technique to counter Rai's gut breaker but also Speed to capture the bends

It doesn’t help Shiraishi if Sanada uses Black Aura with his other moves, or even if he gets the hang on how the triple clutch moves. No matter how fast Shiraishi can become, his reaction time can’t be fast enough to deal with the triple clutch.

Sanada’s evolved Fuurinkazan is formidable too, however Shiraishi should eventually find a way to deal with the moves, but I doubt he can return all of them let alone if Sanada combines it with the BA.

Atobe’s future showed him doing a 7 bend (which is probably how many times Sanada will be able to bend his shot in three years), and is near impossible to return a show that can bend that many times.

If he could go all the way up to 10 bends then 100% impossible to return. Unless you have something to stop the shot like Black Hole but Sanada can possibly bend it before it enters the dark void so inevitably he would be almost invincible.

My B, i said 10

I meant if he does the 5 ball strike, then can he bend them all or just the original
Because bending them all would be insane

Also yeah, even Tanegashima couldn't track the Triple Clutch so that should throw Shiraishi off.

I wish we saw more of Tokugawa vs Sanada
We'd actually see the evolved FuuRinKaZan and how he handles Black Hole

Tokugawa toying and not even trying to beat Sanada is really bad showing for the latter.

Or maybe Tokugawa is really that strong. And really the Second Strongest Genius 5 after Byodoin. After all he stomped TNK Ryoma back then.

I guess Sanada winning 3 games against Tokugawa is already impressive after all?

He can return the 5 balls but he cannot split them like Oni.

Sanada doesn't have the triple clutch tho (he only managed to do it through Wind) and it's not like Tanegashima had much exposure to the double clutch. He was surprised by it once, failed to return the shot and that was it.

This is pre-camp Ryoma, he was probably at less than 18 total in stats.

Can he bend Rai?
He did bend Rai upwards and hit Osval in the nuts lol.

Sanada vs Toku was just him trying to master the triple clutch, but he didn’t unveil none of his RanShinEnPou moves at all. Overall the match was pretty bad.

I wonder if he wasn’t so obsessed by completing it how would it have went? Tokugawa would have won in the end but he definitely would have gotten more serious than he did.

Do you think Toku would have used his Asura or Freeze ball technique he used against Duke?

Oh I didn't remember that at all, my bad.

Tokugawa is perfectly balanced so I'm not too sure there's much for Sanada to exploit there.

It would had been nice if Sanada managed to break Tokugawa's serve and forced him to go all out. I think that during the match this wasn't a problem at all but in hindsight it heavily hurts Sanada.

HOT TAKE:

Probably Bismarck because Atobe's body cannot last more than one set. Maybe not even more than 3 games.

Atobe will win a set though.

Bismarck wins 2 sets to 1.

Its a 3 way Rock Paper Scissor

Bismarck Beats Atobe.
Atobe Beats Romeo
Romeo beats Bismarck

Just cause their abilities counter each other.

Atobe Evolution Future Counters Romeo Infinite Reset

Romeo's Infinite Reset Counters Bismarck's Tiebreak invincibility.

Bismarck's Tiebreak Invincibility counters Atobe's Breathing Technique. And his skill is not affected by Atobe Evolution unlike Romeo infinite Reset which strengthen Atobes evolution

In a 3-set Atobe can't maintain the physical exertion required to match Bismark. This is mostly an assumption that his base stats are likely very high given he's the Vice captain of the Physical Stats team.
Which sucks because Bismarck otherwise has no weapons in this match. Atobe's evolved insight should allow him to time his super risings perfectly to stop the Kick Serve. The Spinless Sway doesn't really seal Atobe in anyway
Plus Atobe has 3 very strong serves, AK to see Absolute Blind Spots and 2 Very strong smashes.
But his 2 best abilities destroy his stamina. AK is implied to exhaust him since he doesn't seem to be able to spam it for a win. Also he can't maintain Future Evolution in his current state.

If we assume it’s one set, Atobe wins comfortably, he has a ton of weapons to face Bismarck and Bismarck doesn’t have anything that really can mess Atobe up.

Atobe did last almost 2 sets with his future evolution, so if it’s 1 set Atobe seals the deal.

One Set: Atobe Wins

3 Sets: Bismarck Wins

I think Bismarck Base stats are way higher than Present Atobe (Atobe in his first set against Romeo). Future Atobe have a lot of Trickery and techniques to win one set.

So basically it goes this way

One set is gonna won by Bismarck (Base Vs Base)

One set is gonna won by Atobe (Using Future Self)

Last set. Atobe will have Half Base + Half Future self. So it just a matter of if it will be enough to beat Michael.

It's a 3 set match.

Not sure Atobe would win comfortably even if it's a single set. On screen, Tanegashima (who is one of best defenders in Japan if not the best) didn't return any of Bismarck's special serves. In fact, the final set plays like this:

Japan-Germany

0-0 Tanegashima serve
1-0 Bismarck serve (win)
1-1 Akaya serve
2-1 Sieg serve
2-2 Tanegashima serve
3-2 Bismarck serve (win)
3-3 Akaya serve
4-3 Sieg serve (break)
5-3 Tanegashima serve (break)
5-4 Bismarck serve (win)
5-5 Akaya serve
6-5 Sieg serve (break)
7-5

With Germany only losing games when Sieg serves, even if this set was played after Tanegashima unlocked his final void. The one time we saw Japan score against Bismarck's serve is when Kirihara caught him off guard and unconsciously returned his serve and then Tanegashima capitalised by going invisible. Even if it doesn't ace, his serve evidently put Germany in a clear advantage.

Is Atobe's service return that much better than Tanegashima's and Kirihara's with access to his Concentration Burst?

If I were to write some sort of plot for a 1 set match here, I see it going into a long tie-break where a cramping Atobe barely wins it and kills Bismarck's 100% streak.

For a 3 sets match, I think Bismarck is cunning enough to delay the match as much as possible and win comfortably thanks to the drawbacks Atobe has accessing his future self. Atobe's only realistic way of winning this is not getting his serve broken for 4~ straight service games and only then activating his Evolution, but I don't think he can do that.

I don't see why Romeo beats Bismarck tbh.

This is mostly an assumption that his base stats are likely very high given he's the Vice captain of the Physical Stats team.
23.5 says his strength comes from experience and analysing his opponents' weaknesses, no mention of stats. That said, he's going pro after this tournament and probably didn't turn into one sooner because he was passionate about racing instead, so it would be no surprise if he's >= 30 total.

Bismarck's playstyle reminds me a bit of Atobe's all attack style, coincidentally, with a huge serve and Akutsu's ability to pretty much reach any ball on top.

This is how can we scale Bismarck Physical Stats.

QP > Oni in Base VS Base. QP won the first set with them both in BASE.

Bismarck is implied to be stronger than BASE QP. (UA QP is the one stronger than Bismarck)

So, technically

Base Bismarck> Base QP > Base Oni

And we know how strong Base Oni is.
