Irie was trusted to play Singles 2 against Switzerland.
even if they are expecting Amadeus VS Byo in S1.
The coaches was definitely expecting Switzerland to use either Kuraraga or Peter in S2.
That should tell a lot since we knew from databooks that Kuraraga is same level strength as Amadeus. And peter is considered the most talented in the swiss team. (Personification of Talent)
And a very near #3. In fact, we all thought he was #2 before konomi introduced Kuraraga in databooks.
I wonder if posters here thinks Ludovic will do the same thing.
Wanna see some insights first before I gave mine. Lol

It doesnt't tell us much. You can use that argument to say that the coaches trusted Gin to play the Power Doubles and yet he got blown up.
I think he has the advantage here, though. Irie's low Power doesn't seem too relevant since the Prince doesn't hit heavy shots, he uses his Power for his Aces. His low Stamina (that is seemingly not as low as the coaches think, anyway) should also not be impacted since the Prince likes to play short rallies.
Irie's stat spikes are in Speed and Tec, which should help him greatly to deal with the Aces. A buffed Ryoma couldn't deal with them, that's true, but his base stats aren't as high as Irie's (who easily won against the speedster Kaji and apparently didn't even use TnK). Irie's final spike (and his best one) is in his Mental stat, that is a whopping 7, as high as Tanegashima's. Irie's entire playstyle seems to revolve around disrupting his opponent's pace and Mental fuckery, and WE KNOW that Ludwig lost against the Ninja because he let his guard down when he was praised.
I think that in this match up Irie is much more prepared than Ryoma was and has a nice opening to attack that Echizen didn't, even if they are around the same tier. As such, I see him comfortably winning here.
Ludwig would need to survive Irie's acting and then get "in the Zone" for his Ki Jin to activate to stand a chance. Even then, I'm not sure how high that chance is.

I thought Gin was only selected because coaches are hoping for a howling with Duke. Coaches of japan are kina obsessed in forming a howling. And yes, they gonna mirroed the power playstyle of power doubles.
But my point is in SIigles though. They really put Irie against expected #2 of a very strong Switzerland team in singles.
Anyways, for the matchup
I will go with Irie too.
If Irie can learn to counter Romeo's ability. Then, i am sure he can deal with Ludovic's aces and arsenals too.

Not sure all of those were Howling attempts (the pairs against Australia, for instance, certainly weren't). Just putting 2 Power dudes together doesn't seem like it could trigger any sort of resonance. It may be more of a "play with someone like you but better and learn with them". Regardless, again, throwing Gin to the wolves' den was a very poor choice and he was greatly out of his depth there.
Japan also put Tokugawa at S2 vs Greece, does that mean that they expected Hermes to be as strong as him? Oni at S1 means that Crawford or Dorgias are base! QP level?
... actually, maybe? I don't heavily dislike either point haha. Point is, though, even if the coaches though Irie had a chance against Peter, it doesn't necessarily mean he's as strong as him (or stronger).
It also makes Japan's lineup against France look even dumber. They had so much faith in Irie for singles and yet he didn't play at all in the tournament.

Are the coaches aware of who will play for the opponents team a day before?
Or it is just purely guessing.
Well, I think it depends on the team. Japan is impossible to predict. They have deep rotations. Germany on the other hand has a 8 Man Rotation
Anyways, yeah. Who knows. Maybe they expected Hades or Hermes to be be as strong as Start of NPOT Toku. Pre evolve Toku stats is lower than literally all G10.
Yeah. I think they thought Irie had a chance against Peter (or Kuraraga). Unless they are throwing S2 for some reason.
If you are throwing one of the match, the strategy is to make one of their stronger players be wasted against one of your weaker players. And then strengthen other match position against their weaker players.
USA perfectly executed that when they put Useless Msers against Albert/Randy.
So, maybe Irie at S2 is the same strategy? Idk.
But going back,
Based on performance of Irie against Atobe and Kaji. I think he wins comfortably against Ludovic.

I know now why japan is ranked 23. And looked weak before this year.
Remember how mifune chooses players? He put all names in paper. roll a die, and whoever selected will be crossed out. i forgot what chapter.
they only got serious in picking players against germany (handpicked), and against spain (held inta tourney)
I assume they do not know, but they likely can sort of guess who goes where and the players themselves can re-arrange each other.
The coaches trusted Irie for the Pre-WC matches, I think they had good faith in him. I'm not even sure they were thinking about Howlings back then (although, Irie does believe he can get one with Atobe).
I don't think it's that at all, lol. There's a big chance that Japan hasn't been fielding good teams since the France WC because of various circumstances, I've talked about it somewhere else before.

Theoretically, Vanish's disappearance should be countered by Saiki's prediction. But the power and spin might be too much to handle. And Saiki has controlled Muga so he can always copy another persons skills. However Chitose is only winning in technique and is losing in 3 stats. Hakamada and Chitose were selected as members though Chitose declined. Hmmm
I'm going to say Hakamada wins since Saiki has numerous ways to be broken. Plus Hakamada has no problem with injuring his opponent which means it's over for Chitose if he figures out his blind spot
I'm fine with the coaches' stats and profiles tbh, they don't seem to be incorrect often (and when they might be, like Irie's, they even take note of it). Duke was hiding a Ki Jin, that doesn't change what they saw and how they ranked it accordingly.
I wanted to have yet another HSer vs MSer match, and I think this is the highest ranked player that Chitose has a chance against:
-Mitsuya lost to Inui and overall his Data Tennis should not be stronger than Saiki, and at the same time his Stamina may be worse than Chitose's but he's good at pacing himself.
-Fuwa can just play blindfolded and negate Saiki. Mirror Eyes might even reflect it.
-Mouri's stats are even better than Fuwa's, and Deep Sleep counters Saiki. On top of that, if Chitose somehow makes it competitive, Mouri actually plays better against tough opponents.
Hakamada falls in the middle of them. Ban is just a massive tank and Date can send up to 5 people flying (how is this good for tennis? God knows) so there's barely anything to discuss there.
I think that kind of reflects how this match would go. Hakamada likely fits the "Offensive Counter Puncher" archetype, which means he'll rush to win his points. If Chitose can abuse Hakamada's awful pacing, he has a shot. The thing is, that in order to do that he has to rely on Saiki to stand a chance against Vanish, and Saiki is a huge Stamina killer.
Vanish itself is a great move. Matsudaira is even faster than Kin and he couldn't do anything against it. If not for the fact that Kin can clone himself and also that he can tank a ton of shots with his body he would had likely lost there, too. It doesn't look like it's tiring for Hakamada to spam it repeatedly, either.
I do not doubt that Chitose's stats have improved since the coaches listed his 19, but at the same time Hakamada's Power and Stamina should still remain higher. If Chitose were to get an eye surgery (which, according to the coaches, is what's taxing his body) then I think he wins this more often than not, but until then I give it to Hakamada 9 times out of 10.
I'm not too sure what moves he can copy to stand a better chance. Kamikakushi itself should barely be a factor for someone as good as Hakamada.

Tachibana just lowered his guard and got overwhelmed by Red Eyes. The exact same thing happened to Fuji who I don't see as someone weak to tricks, either.
He could, but then Vanish would be much more predictable, removing the whole point of the shot. He'd still have to guess when it attacks him, I guess.

Hakamada Izou
25th round:
It was suggested a while ago so let's see: How far can Romeo's hype take him?

I don't think it should. Romeo wasn't attacking Atobe's weak points at all, in fact it was sort of the opposite and he only got out of by Materializar by analysing strengths.
In the tie-break Bismarck was sweating and Mares remarked they had been at it for a while.
