Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

^ This doesn't really bode well for the Beelzebub anime, if they plan to continue it with approximately 30 chapters remaining before catching up. >_>

I can't help but agree with Bomber about D.Gray-man though. A part of me thinks this is also why D.Gray-man hasn't gotten an anime continuation, you can never predict when the next chapter will come out.

Regarding Jump's hiatus, if scans get released early I can't help but feel bad that people spent well-deserved holiday time on translating and scanning stuff. I'd rather wait until after New Years like everyone else.

I really prefer it to be a week off, then an issue, then another week off rather than two weeks off in a row.
Also, I think we should figure out if HXH will continue without going on hiatus at the end of the chapter in this issue. Also in the "next issue preview" part at the back of the magazine.
That's the koen way ;)

Three years I have imposed myself an issue-break-issue-break-issue-issue... cycle whereas the given premise was issue-issue-break-break-issue-issue cycle

I never break complained, whereas a whole part of the staff mocked my unlogical thinking, I enjoyed their break suffering :)

I don't know if that's possible, but it indeed would be awesome! I still feel it's a shame ST&RS is doing so bad in rankings. But then, I think sales of the volume 1 weren't above average, so I'm not sure Jump would decide to keep it.

I'm not sure Young Jump has the right audience for St&rs. Most of Young Jumps readers are in their mid-twenties, virtually none are under 17. While I am not saying adults can not appreciate St&rs, I am 33 and enjoy the series, but a magazine marketed towards readers who have already graduated college might not be the best place for St&rs to thrive.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

I predict Sket Dance will go on for several years because it can add fillers and change the timeline without affecting the overall plot. I wouldn't have considered it a merchandisable series before the anime aired, but it's apparent that there are several ways to profit off of it. (The Sketchbook) More money, the better.

Over the last year or two it really feels like Jump art is drawn off a template. Even the character design for good series like St&rs seems to homogenized. These Jump NEXT one shots seem like they are traced off the same template. There are a few recent series with a unique style (or at least semi-unique), Magico comes to mind, but not that many.
I wasn't too sure WHAT didn't appeal to me, and you put those feelings into words. :thumbs The current trend seems a bit bland for my tastes to the point where I'd even prefer something a little rough such as DGB/Toriko/Hokuto no Ken.

Every character in every new series seems to have the same shape face, it really bugs me. Magico, Ikkyuu, St&rs, Sengoku Armors, Metallica Metullica, etc. all seem to have the same faces but different hair. And the drawing style is always modeled on post - time skip Naruto :/

You know that the more early the release will be, the longer we will have to wait next ? So an early release is not that good.

An early release is imo the best option, people that really want they early fix of manga get it and if other people don't want to have to wait like 2 weeks they can't just not read the early release and wait until there is a week as usual..

Yabuki (author of Black Cat and To Love-Ru) started his first serialization at age 19.

I once checked which was the (reported) youngest author having a serialization and it would either have to be Yabuki Kentaro or Masanori Morita.. (Both already mentioned) though I think is Masanori Morita since the character's names on Bakuman seem to be modeled after him (From wiki) so I guess it is him.

Morita started his first serialization at age 22, so Yabuki started at younger age than him.

I don't know how legit it is,but wikipedia says this:
His name is similar to the main character of Takeshi Obata and Tsugumi Ohba's new manga, Bakuman. The character's name is Mashiro Moritaka, and like his namesake, Morita made his debut while still in high school.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

I don't know how legit it is,but wikipedia says this:
The 'debut' for mangaka isn't meant for their first serialization; it is meant for when they won a newbie manga award or serialize their first work (one shot) in magazine.

If you count from when they won the award, then Morita started as a career of mangaka at age 18. However, Yabuki begin his career of mangaka at age 17 which make Yabuki still be a one of youngest Shonen Jump mangaka who started a manga career. The other person I know is Miki Yuu (author of Kaizou Ningen Rogii, released on Issue 8 of 2011) who also won an award at age 17.

On the side note, the newbie mangaka, called Nishino Nanora, won the Jump SQ. newbie award in age 15, so s/he started even younger age than Yabuki. But, s/he still didn't start serialization, yet.
