It looks like Meruhen Ouji Grimm has ended on this week's issue.
Yeah, I also read the chapter. Funny how neither T, nor ohana or anybody else seemed to care or have noticed it... xD

Edit:
Just finished reading ST&RS and it's da bomb! Really well-done from both, author and mangaka. The art definitely reminds me of ES21, the Japanese Wikipedia also lists Miyokawa as one of Murata's former assistants (without confirming source though...).
Altogether, it was a great read and I can't recall any recent new series that got me hooked like this right off the bat!

But yeah, it's so Not-JUMPlike...

So many new series getting canceled... this year is not good for SJ either it seems...
But it is better than last year. Only Enigma managed to survive in 2010 series; in this year, already 1 series (Magico) managed to survive. So, I think there is high chance that 2011 going to better year for Jump than 2010.

Maybe ST&RS will be received like Bakuman, which also isn't very Jump-like (except for the hot-bloodedness). Both stories seem quite similar in terms of theme, plus the fact that it's different could work well for it.

Well, Bakuman is not very Jump-like, but it focuses on Jump system and it has name value of two authors. In Stars case, they don't have any advances as compared to Bakuman.

St&rs looks very good, while it does not seem very Jump circa 2011 it does seem very Jump circa 2003 :p It would have fit in back in the early 2000's when the magazine was more varied. I could see it serialized alongside the likes of Eyeshield, Ichigo 100%, I"S, or Bremen. It's not out of the question that a non-action series actually clicks, Jump has had plenty of series that were not action in the recent past. At least it will have Sengoku as protection.

Yeah, at the very least I think Jump's readership is finally getting tired of constantly cancelled battle manga.

This just seems like something that would've fit better in one of their other magazines (or as you said, earlier Jump) though. I really hope I get proven wrong.

I think not Jump-like is the new "thing". Look at Bakuman. Enigma isn't Jump-like either, and Magico is more like a Sunday series.

Can anyone spoil a little about the first chapter of ST&RS?

It's in times like this that I wish to know more japonese...I'm still very new with all the kanjis and Hiragana =)

I loved the art...i looks like a lot the art of the author of Eyeshield21...I just passed my eyes on the raw, and I like it...I wish this stays in Jump, but don't take the spot of Ikkyuu xD

You sure you want spoilers? The first chapter should be translated on the official WSJ site soon.

Well, it's not spoiler that I want...it's more like a synopsis =)

And yes, I know that in a few days the chapter will be released in WSJ site ;)

It's more like...in two weeks than in a few days I believe.

Its been a while since I read a new series, but I think I'll start reading ST&RS and Ikkyu. Both have interesting concepts and nice art, and I have a feeling that they're both going to stick. Is Magico any good? It seems like an interesting series, but I'm not exactly a fan of the cutesy art. If the story's good however, I can see myself following it. Plus it seems to be doing well in the rankings.

I didn't like Magico. The writing really isn't that good. Through chapter 13 every chapter is a little to similar - they go to a new locale, someone threatens them, the boy protects them, and everyone agrees he's a really good guy. Ikkyuu is better, in my opinion. As of chapter five (the latest scanlated) there is still a bit of a prologue feel, but the writing is really sharp and the riddles clever. The main character has kind of a "classic" Jump lead feel. Kind of like Naruto, Taikoubou, or Hanamichi.

I thought Ikkyū was entirely a creation of the mangaka's imagination, but is actually a historical Zen Buddhist monk. Ikkyū also happens to be a folk hero to Japanese children . Looking at it in this way... it makes more sense as to why the mangaka chose to write a story around it for his serialization.

I've also read in some places that it's loosely base on an older series as well. Or maybe they meant there was an older series about the same historical figure...whatever.

Either way, I like it.

ST&RS was really good :D Although I agree it isn't very jump-like, since it's really good I think it will stay in jump for a while ^_^

Next week is another new series called Looking Glass!:3

Preview picture of the new series Kagami no Kuni starting Issue 31 from the Official Jump Website

It seems the Author of Kagami no Kuni's name is written 叶 恭平
but Mx0/Pretty Face's author is 叶 恭弘

The art looks to much alike though, he most likely just changed his pen name

*edit* from Sasaki's Twitter *edit*
Another new series is Harisugawa in mirror world by KANO-sensei. The name is familiar by his other works such as M*0, Pretty face
I used to be KANO-sensei 's editor in charge before serialization debut

I don't think I can take another series of Yasuhiro Kano being canceled. They always finish open ended. Mx0's ending was painful.

all new series looks quite interesting. hopefully all of them get their time to develop, so that only the bad ones get's axed. doesn't have a problem if older less important series get canned.
