Here we fucking go...

What about assistants? How is their share like? Is that 10% royalties an estimate?

Toriko anime rarely sold much at all? It just got high TV ratings. I was saying not millionaire per year. Ofc everything he earned from Toriko is well over a million. He definitely wasn't making a million after anime end.

No, you're right. Toriko recent update was in 2014, near the time where anime ended. I doubt it's even at 25 million at this point.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

Dragon Ball SD?*

It's at the bottom of the list lol.

Assistants receive money that comes from the per page salary, they don't get any money from any other source. Unless of course the author is a good guy and decides they also deserve part of his earnings in the other things.

10% is not a estimate! Newbie authors receive 10% royalties from the volumes and normally can go as far as 15% as they turn veteran.

"Toriko anime rarely sold much at all?" -> Are you talking of what? Disk sales? That is not the only source of revenue for a anime franchise. Toriko did pretty great in Merchandise.
In 2012 was in the top 100 Character Merchandise and earned with in that 1,990,000,000 yen (=) 17,675,180 dollars. Even if the author only received from that 1% he would have in 2012 earned 0.177 Million dollars, just in Merchandise.
Looking at Toei Animation Toriko Domestic Licensing data(so basically the royalties Toei Animation earned from the Merchandise) we have
April 2011 to March 2012 -> 234 Million yen (=) 2.1 Million Dollars
April 2012 to March 2013 -> 167 Million yen (=) 1.5 Million Dollars
April 2013 to March 2014 -> 88 Million yen (=) 0.8 Million Dollars

"I was saying not millionaire per year" -> You understand that a series releases around 5 volumes per year right? So 30 volumes took 6 years right? And in that time Toriko earned 7.9 Million dollars, rounded 8 Million dollars. 8 Million dollars divided by 6 years is 1.33 Million dollars per year.
Adding the rest of his sources of income and you easily get at least a 1.5 Million dollars earnings per year.

So anyone is checking Demon´s Plan and Ole Golazo´s latest chapters? Demon´s Plan is getting better reception on reddit with the latest fight
Ole Golazo is still cool to me.

Don't feel too differently about Demon's Plan than I did in the beginning. However it's hard to compare what Reddit thinks of it now.
The first few chapters had 100+ comments. The commenters slowly decreased as the chapters released, and now the only ppl commenting are about 10-15 ppl, who were likely among those who didnt dislike the beginning like many others did anyway.

Toriko could've been at low/mid 30M if it was adapted better and/or by different studio. That director they had for the anime made some lousy mistakes and even watching the anime it left out some/most of the gags/world building.

It would've made a great Trigger show tbvh.
What Trigger show had better performance than Toriko? None. Why do you believe a different anime would get the series more sales? My Hero Academia got a Bones anime, and during the only manga era, was already selling more than Toriko only manga era(Toriko was selling around 100-150k while My Hero Academia around 300k) and right now My Hero Academia peak sells around the same as Toriko sales peak.

Assistants are like employee, they don't get royalties. Remember, mangaka get pay to draw in the magazine as well. But after paying all the expense (assistants, paper and ink if go tradition path), they left with nothing. So, their primary income is ROYALTIES sale.

The 10% is an estimate, but a good estimate. Some higher veteran may get better royalties (like 15% for Oda,Togashi, etc..)

An old post about Oda's income in 2010 http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/int...zine/one-piece-creator-oda-made-2-billion-yen . It's a good start~

Here's another one http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/int...s-averaged-70-million-yen-in-volume-royalties published in 2011.

One thing to keep in mind, mangaka get royalties per volume PRINTED, not sold.
Thanks for the links and clarifying @bold statement.

I know Toriko did well in merch. but how much would a mangaka receive from a show that consistently does 5-7% TV ratings wise? Any estimates?

I was just saying it could fit well as a trigger show...Btw MHA sells more and a noticeable difference to Toriko's peak.

Inaccurate Estimates

Oda: 15,300,000,000¥
Sorachi: 2,295,000,000¥
Furudate*: 900,000,000¥
Tosh/Tsukuda: 495,000,000
Horikoshi: 337,500,000¥
Ashihara*: 247,500,000¥
Asou*: 180,000,000¥
Tabata: 90,000,000¥
Tadahiro: 31,500,000¥
Shirai/Demizu*: 13,500,000¥

BnHA Peak(2016): 5,114,916
Toriko Peak(2011): 4,665,634
Difference = 449,282
Don't know what Toriko's sales are after they leave the charts, but after leaving the charts t looks like MHA averages around 600K-650K

I thinks you should consider the amount of volume toriko have on that year. MHA only has 7 volume when the anime debut on 2016 and Toriko(i'm just guessing here) have at least 12-15 volume.

Only looked at the total of their peak year but pre-anime BnHA was bigger than pre-anime Toriko and post-anime BnHA is still bigger than Toriko ever was. Well deserved

Noticeable difference...also BnHA had like 11 volumes in total at the time? Toriko had around 17ish volumes at that time, not to mention it was long running anime.

See for yourself the difference...

To be fair, Toriko "deserved" to sell a whole hell of a lot better than it did.

I still think those Toriko numbers are pretty solid. For MHA, I honestly don't see it's average volume sales getting that much higher. Although, with my bias, I still maintain it deserves to sell more.

Volume 7 of HeroAca did over 650k in a single year, Volume 12 will surely be over 700k at the end of this year, Toriko has never had a volume touch 500k in a single year

Toriko did well but it's hard to say it deserved better when it already outsold the vast majority of the market, there are plenty of better things out there that sold way less. Just because it wasn't a Naruto doesn't make its success less relevant.

That's great news! If it wins that manga taisho award, it'll go even higher.
