Feel like i'm back in high school reading We Can't Study.

and that's not a good thing. <_>
Well, there are things that you are good and thing you are not that good, they are quite normal in this aspect, but they want to build their careers in the things they are bad at, that's odd and doesn't happen very often indeed. Since, it is rare I expected a very strong reason, but I was disappointed when they gave their reasons in chapter 2. Furuhashi's reason was fairly good, but Ogata's... This undermine the enjoyment a bit because you can't root for them when their reasons are bullshit, but it can get better if the author comes with good things in every other aspects of the series.

VIZ should make it clear whether they are going to release the series or not, I'm waiting to read in Japanese because of this.

I'm surprised how much I liked these last few chapter of We can't study. I wonder if the reason is that these last few chapters have focused mainly on one of the girls and not all of them as a whole. Also, this maybe just me, I don't really see this as a romance and haven't since the second chapter does anyone else think this?

There's no way that we can't study is not a romance series...

He didn't say it wasn't a romance series, he said he didn't really see it as one. I don't agree with him, but I can see where he's coming from. No tsundere, no misunderstanding crap (...yet).

So it seems that we have finally reached the point where in Shonen Manga, a romance story is only considered a full-fledged with the inclusion of the tsundere and the misunderstanding. How twisted we have become as a readership. We are annoyed, and with the case of the misunderstanding, hate, these "tropes" but, we crave them nonetheless.

Surely the lack of tsundere characters and misunderstandings interrupting the good scenes would make it more of a romance.

Your average shounen romcoms tend to be severely lacking on the actual romance parts.

However now you can argue that the exclusion of those actual romance bits is what we readers crave from a shonen magazine serialized romance story. We want them to exclude the two characters getting closer without any forced developments or annoying character traits but if the story actually proceeds to do so, we label it as bland and proceed to thrash it. The mangaka are simply giving us what we want to read.

Either way, people will consider romance comedy trash. It is just not the taste of Jump readers, at least here... It is pretty rare to see anyone here satisfied with any kind of romance... Just give them battle shounen with a lot of fights and romance in the last chapter with couples that make no sense at all but whatever and they will be satisfied.

I for one enjoy a good romance even if its cheesy as long as it has heart or tries to be heartfelt. It stands that Kenshin was one of my first shonen battle manga and romance manga and the romance was heartfelt to say the least. The move to liking simple battle shounen, especially in Jump, might be because we simply want to turn off our brains and be forced to turn them back on. For most people, that's usually done through a character death. Now we have stakes, a reason to be completely immersed in the world and theorize further about it although at this point most mangaka simply haven't developed their world enough and give us readers enough to theorize about. Its possibly why HxH is so well loved; its world is very intricately thought out and complete so you don't need much story to happen and can still try to predict the world.

Also to change the topic, Araki in an TV interview recently that's spreading on 2ch, mentioned that he hates bringing back characters that have died, not been shown as dead like say Avdol. He said he hates killing off characters but if the story goes there and nothing can be done, he will kill them off without any chance of reviving them. Its however OK to make it seem like a character has been killed off and bring them back but if you have shown the corpse for example, they should stay dead.

He's pretty much taking a huge jab at Toriyama.

This is not true at all... People are not interested in BAD romance comedy... Give them a thrilling one and they'll root for it with their whole being.

But We Can't Study is not this one.

Then wouldn't that mean Araki dislikes Naruto? He did a drawing for Naruto. Also, wouldn't HxH fall in that category to an extent? For example..
Meruem after Netero's fight and Hisoka after Chrollo's fight

I agree with Araki. Who knows maybe it's more at jab at Mashima more than Toriyama. :P

Speaking of JoJo, i am reading part 6 (stone ocean) at the moment right now and i have to say/ask:

Araki chose the wrong magazine to publish this in. It should have been in Ultra Jump from the start.

Did it get the Jump's almighty axe at the end? Looking at the ranking it seems likely.

A jab in almost every author to be precise. Almost all authors do such thing and I hate it so much... I completely agree with Araki.

I will be honest here, you will are the one I rely on the least when it comes to romance. The vibe that you gives in this thread is that good romance is nonexistent romance.

Yes Jojo was axed. No one really cared for it before the anime. Actually even the anime was inside joke. Plus jojo was ranking in the bottom 5 for years and sold very badly. Like 300k per volume and at that time dat was like very bad. Like dat sumo manga sales bad.

I fail to believe that 300k has ever been as bad as selling 30k in Jump.
Because it hasn't. :D
It is the use of hyperbole to try to prove your point. You will find a lot in this forum.:derp

he isn't using hyperbole tho

he is baiting

nothing in his post is true

Araki shifted to to seinen because he wanted to draw something that deals with real life issues and thought young readers won't appreciate it

Stone Ocean was the final part of the manga. Steel ball Run wasn't a Jojo part at first , it was a new manga.
When they put SBR in Ultra Jump , the manga gain popularity again and Araki make that series a Jojo part.

Stardust crusader and Vento Aureo bad sales? Your baiting are getting worse than before.
Also SBR sell poor and wasn't popular before go to Ultra Jump, when it go to that magazine it become a best seller.(and it become that before the anime)..
