In reality there is a change in the way of working at Jump, compared to the period at the turn of the year 2000. Once the former Big 3 and some other manga that exceed 40 volumes have become rare motorcycles. When you get closer to that figure, it is likely that they are pressuring to close, even though they may still like it enough. As for the manga with a good but not exceptional popularity, the figure is reduced to about twenty numbers. Clearly in all this there are the due exceptions. Just to give some examples:Speaking of Toriko, I just noticed something interesting. Both Toriko and Katekyo Hitman Reborn! seem to have almost identical run times looking at when they started and finished and both had very similar runs in the magazine in general. Both never really managed to take off to the next level and stagnated sales wise and popularity wise after a while, they were both really successful, but maybe not enough for WSJ to keep them running for over 9 years. Toriko has 43 volumes and Reborn has 42, I just thought this was interesting.
I don't think there is any change. Just solely depends on how popular a manga gets and how many it's volumes sell aside from the obvious fact of how much the mangaka wanted to actually write. If MHA can keep up the ratings n stuff, it'll be able to go on for however long it wants. That's always been the case at WSJ. It's just that there haven't been many manga that could keep ratings and sales up for that long in the last 10 years or their stories would just not be that long. KnB would've kept selling and being ranked well if the premise gave it more options to grow. Assassination classroom's setting was always very short but it'd have definitely survived 10 years with the sales it had.In reality there is a change in the way of working at Jump, compared to the period at the turn of the year 2000. As for the manga with a good but not exceptional popularity, the figure is reduced to about twenty numbers. Clearly in all this there are the due exceptions. Just to give some examples:
Reborn - very successful manga - 42 volumes with a more than hasty final saga
Psyren - manga of moderate success - 16 volumes
Toriko - very successful manga - 43 volumes
Bakuman - successful manga - 20 volumes
Haikyuu !! - very successful manga - 29 volumes in progress
My Hero Academia - very successful manga - 16 volumes in progress
As you can see the successful manga born after 2000, they all stop at the twentieth number, little more or less, while the manga that have had a great success as Reborn or Toriko arrive at forty and little more. I would say that once One Piece, Detective Conan and Gintama are finished we will hardly see other manga reaching over fifty numbers.
That's an awful ranking. Toriko isn't as successful as Reborn/MHA/Bakuman and especially Haikyuu!!. Psyren is a flop. Bakuman is more successful than Toriko by a large margin, Toriko couldn't break the 500k mark but Bakuman at one point passed the 600k mark.In reality there is a change in the way of working at Jump, compared to the period at the turn of the year 2000. This was great! This just shows how harsh things were for newcomers for the longest time because too many older manga were running in the magazine(just look at the 2010's) and I feel like 2012 was the begging of a new era in a way with those 4 crucial manga that started in that year (Nisekoi also popped up at the end of 2011). Then 2014 came around with BNHA and WSJ really put their hopes into it if it got an anime decided for it so early on and HZ was also solidifying a newer generation of the Jump magazine(and well WT was supposed to be part of the new generation as well, but RIP). Then in 2016 there were 5 big-huge series that finished and it really made it less impossible for some new mangaka and manga to flourish.Speaking of that...
Lemme share this updated piece of shit only cause I've been doing it for years now.
Year Jump Success/Failures
Put this together awhile ago because I was bored and continue updating it every year. Thought I’d share.
I started this list at 1997 since that was the debut of One Piece and began the era of modern Jump.
These aren’t the perfect criteria to judge success by, but it’s the one I’m using.
Huge Success= Became a defining series for Jump.
Notable Success= 3 Or More Years
Quasi Success= Ran for 1-2 Years (with exceptions for short series who received anime)
For 2014+ these are tentative guesses on success.

For a period of time it was the third Big of Jump and it is still a manga that has reached and exceeded 40 volumes lasting 8 years .....That's an awful ranking. Toriko isn't as successful as Reborn/MHA/Bakuman and especially Haikyuu!!. Psyren is a flop. Bakuman is more successful than Toriko by a large margin, Toriko couldn't break the 500k mark but Bakuman at one point passed the 600k mark.
By the salesHow do you make a distinction between successful and very successful?
I would not consider Boruto a notable success ...Speaking of that...

I'm pretty sure the media franchises thing was posted here.Dunno if this was posted before, but MHA just barely made it into the Top 10 media franchises of this year.

On another note, Todoroki got 9th place in "Most appealing character poll"
https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/in...-includes-old-favorites-new-surprises/.125644
We should clarify that it got pushed really hard by WSJ. But did it really live up to being on front cover for those 2 years? That is definitely up in the air. I'm inclined to say it didn't. But obviously, you or someone else might think otherwise. For a period of time it was the third Big of Jump and it is still a manga that has reached and exceeded 40 volumes lasting 8 years .....
So going by sales per volume, Bakuman was a bigger and more stable success (15 million sales with 20 volumes; with volumes average during its ending at 550 - 600k) as opposed to Toriko's (Available data is 20 million with 30 volumes; with volumes towards the end averaging around 200-270k). Bakuman was very stable, had a better average and had better peak sales than Toriko.By the sales
It's volume sell around 300-400k. That's definitely a notable success.I would not consider Boruto a notable success ...
Someone posted the top 10 franchises a few weeks ago and it was a bit different. Your name was first, I think.Dunno if this was posted before, but MHA just barely made it into the Top 10 media franchises of this year.
