Here's a recent mini documentary about the history and the current state of the manga magazine industry in Japan. Made by NHK. It also covers WSJ. We occasionally talk about these kinds of things on the forums so this is kind of cool.

1:40 where the Magazine part starts.

The magazine part ends at 24:30

Except for the dubbing being really bad and the presenters being really lame, it was a really good documentary

I read about an original character and start getting angry at the staff and then I find out its a cat:facepalm
Yeah it's confirmed lol

Name is Chanko. Play on of chankonabe I assume

AND STILL NO ANIMATED PV. Should I just give up now? :nerve:devil-mad

Going by Gonzo's recent record with PVs it could be anytime this month. Their last few shows have all had the first animated PV some point during the month 2 prior to when the show starts.

And also a follow-up tweet stating that MHA series now has surpassed 17 Million copies, thanks to the reprints.
And for other Jump series ?

Didn't we get the same official message of MHA surpsassing 16 million copies just 3 weeks ago?

MHA is definitively going to enter in the selected group of +20 million very soon. I guess Shokugeki will also sooner or later surpass 20 million too despite the decline.

Yes, the tweet even mentions that this comes surprisingly fast after just making the 16 million announcement not too long ago ^^

I am curious, currently by sales what would be the series of the best-selling current Jump?

One Piece, Hunter x Hunter, Haykyuu, My Hero, Soma ..... and?

The rapid overtaking of My Hero does not surprise me, considering the marketing campaign, between films and anime.

Jump Olympus basically is all +20 million sellers.

I'm using the Wikipedia worldwide page:

+100: One Piece, Dragon Ball, Naruto, Kochikame, Slam Dunk, Bleach, Hokuto no Ken, JoJo
+50: Captain Tsubasa, Kinnikuman, Kenshin, HunterxHunter, Rokudenashi (anime for never) Blues, Gintama, Prince of Tennis, City Hunter, Dragon Quest Dai no Daiboken (surprising is here but it has very poor merchandising from Shueisha, almost like if it isn't considered a Jump Olympus manga), Rookies, Yu Yu Hakusho
+30: Cobra (same situation as Dragon Quest Dai no Daiboken), Yu-Gi-Oh, Dr.Slump, Saint Seiya, Death Note, Kuroko's Basketball, Hitman Reborn, Bastard!
+20: Haikyuu, Sakigake Otokojuku, Shaman King (aka the fallen angel), Hikaru no Go, D.Gray-man, Assasination Classroom, Eyeshield 21, Hell Teacher Nube (same situation as Dragon Quest Dai no Daiboken, it has very poor merchandising and is like if itsn't considered a Jump Olympus manga), Kimagure Orange Road (2018, this is still the most sold Jump romantic comedy manga), Toriko. And very very soon Hero Academia is entering here.
Special Tier: Mazinger Z

Also, in this list you can see what I posted some days ago:

Just seeing Jump titles with more sales, It's easy to categorize them in 3 categories:
-Battle/action/adventures titles
-Spokon
-Kochikame and Gintama

Spokon titles sell a lot (reminder Prince of Tennis is the 15th most sold manga for example, just giving a no Slam Dunk or Captain Tsubasa example). However, comedies with less than 70 volume or romantic title don't have these high numbers (if I recall, romantic title with most sold volumes is Kimagure Orange Road which is in 40th place of Jump ranking, then Video Girl Ai in 50th)

However, I asked for the current Jump series.

HQ has not already exceeded 30 million?

I still wonder why romantic titles are the less succesful ones. Video Girl Ai should be in Jump Olympus.

I've been using Heiji tableau tirage (two questions: are Gintama numbers right? I find them too low according to official data, which had like 30 million more than in the tirage. Other question is if there is data about Otoko Ippiki tirage). Fun fact: Dragon Ball has more sold volumes outside Japan than One Piece.

The olympus is more or less the same I posted previous page, with some key differences:
-Dragon Quest Dai no Daiboken is still here in 18th place, Shueisha.
-NuBe has the same number of milion copies as Assasination Classroom, Shueisha.
-Hoshin Engi and Cat's Eye enter in the 20K.
-Rookies is only 21K, in Wikipedia it had more than 30K for some reason.

By the way, both Heiji and Wikipedia have Shaman King in 25K. That Jump sales video ranking of last January had it in like 50K for some reason.

Also, some curiosities:
-Didn't find Wingman in Heiji tirage, but Video Girl Ai is 14 million, and I''s is 10 million. So Katsura as author is in the ''Olympus''.
-Nisekoi is 12K. Ichigo 100% is onlyl 6K lol
-And here is the final curiosity, the black horse who could enter in the Olympus despite Shueisha having forgotten it in its merchandising stuff. If you add Play Ball (13K, the very same number as Ring ni Kakero), and Captain (remember, Play Ball was Captain spinoff. Captain has 19K), its true total would be 32K, Olympus worthy. 70s ''Haikyuu'' baseball manga deserves some love.

EDIT: Hero Academia has a huge chance to surpass Toriko in total number sales at end of this year.
