Yeah and they did thw same thing with HxH when it recently got off hiatus. Its not really something new.
It is helpful to get some interest back. What I am curious about is if Toei is still interested in the WT anime continuation given that their original plan was another 50 episode season after the first 50 episodes, but then Ashihara's health made that plan void and it ended at what 23 extra episodes with the end being chapter 124? As far as I know they still hold the rights to it and all.

I doubt they will. Its toei, they rather make some DB spin off than go back to WT. They have a lot of big titles that they haven't touched in ages that are more profitable than doing another run of WT.

I think a SD reboot is more likely than WT continuation.

Oricon Chart for 10/8-10/14

210802 *709028 HxH
169644 *455332 Haikyuu
*63834 *160055 Boruto
*50571 *139451 Gintama
*34587 1984973 OP
*27171 **74789 Darlifra
*26040 **70037 Yuragi
*22355 *631764 Heroaca
*18517 *322520 Ruroken
-
*11072 *730094 Heroaca 19
*10897 **29642 Hinomaru Sumou
**9969 *788898 Heroaca 18
**8585 *801116 Heroaca 17

The biggest thing here is HxH's drop from the previous volume
│477485 (3)│*728167│*819134│*865164│*895639┃1,002,275 (122)┃2018/02|HUNTER×HUNTER 35
│498226 (4)│*709028│-------│-------│-------┃*,709,028 (*11)┃2018/10|HUNTER×HUNTER 36

Volume 36 has an extra day over vol. 35 yet sold 19k less by the end of its 2nd week. This is a case where you can tell its a drop. We have to wait until the 4th week to see if it can recover over the next 2 weeks and get past volume 35's 4th week sales but so far its up in the air.

Weirdly enough, Haikyuu is also showing a similar pattern:
│267683 (3)│486748│558891│592529│612377┃*,612,377 (*31)┃2018/08|ハイキュー!! 33
│285688 (4)│455332│------│------│------┃*,455,332 (*11)┃2018/10|ハイキュー!! 34

It may be that this is just a week where stuff is lower. Boruto continues its downward trend. Hinomaru sumou 22 sold less than Heroaca 19 which is in its 15th week. Speaking of which, Heroaca 20 actually sold a tiny bit more in its 6th week than its 5th. It sold 22280 in its 5th whereas this past week it did 22355. It could be due to various reasons.

The end of the Oricon year is in like 5 weeks, including this week so it should be interesting to see how stuff continues to do by then.

It pains me how City Hunter is only 30 chapters to get completed in english subs, but in theory nobody scanlates it anymore.

I know Kinnikuman hasn't had that fusion treatment, but Saint Seiya and Captain Tsubasa had that fusion treatment. I even recall Otoko Ippiki Gaki Daisho has had that fusion treatment, not sure.
I did a little research about Gaki Daisho about that case a few months ago but it was impossible for me since there were so many changes for chapter titles. If it interest you, here a link.

Also, as you mentioned;
Saint Seiya magazine count - 245 chapters
Saint Seiya tank count - 110 chapters

Captain Tsubasa magazine count - 356 chapters
Captain Tsubasa tank count - 114 chapters

HQ is on that downward trajectory, like most series after their prime. So, it's not a surprise anymore.
HxH also seems to have finally gained some fatigue. But I'd blame the lack of consistency in HxH's case.

Gintama's numbers are depressing. :-/

Virtually all the series nowadays sell less ....

The last volume of Gintama should be 77 true?

dont know if it makes sense to conclude that a series like HQ is trending downwards at this point in time, best to wait for the yearlys to make that claim for HQ instead of the week to week variability of 2 weeks of ranking.
Also feels like dejavu, since last volume perhaps people said it was down then all of a sudden it ended up higher

Just stop. MHA isn't selling "less". TPN isn't selling "less". If you think this is what happens to series that YOU are a fan of and wish sold more, you're just being selective and not bothering to review sales data that have been around for more than a decade now.

Series decline after their prime. It's nothing new. Reborn sold around 300-400k towards its end compared to 600-700k at its peak. We all know how Toriko declined. Prince of Tennis, Bleach are some of the million+ sellers that declined significantly after their prime.

So uh, first time looking at oricon sales at their own site instead of ANN and MAL and something is strange. Why the ranking for the week is different in some positions compared to the translated one?

To be clear, I'm looking at this page
https://www.oricon.co.jp/rank/obc/w/2018-10-15/

Because on the official website, it's still the one from last week. There's not yet the one for this week. You need to have an account, and pay each month (which I have been doing for more than 8 years), on the Oricon data site to have access to the ranking in advance. Besides, you can usually find the top first on Okachi before Ann and Mal^^.

It more than likely will, won't even be surprised if it manages to sneak in the top 2

well it would be pretty embarrassing if in a year where you had a tv airing of your anime and a movie that sold 1.2mln tickets fail to meet or exceed contemporaries that didnt receive such content.

Not just that but I think SD is gonna outsell Haikyuu this year which is pretty funny and more so if it outsells MHA.

Haikyuu could really use a S4 even if it wont do a lot. Its been 2 years since S3 first aired

I don't see SD outselling Haikyu let alone MHA lol, and Haikyu more than likely will be in the top 5 this year

True with MHA but I think beating Haikyuu is still possible.
