Is it me or does seem like people on this thread don't really care about the toc placements anymore? Or even know what running right now in Jump?
Like people have said, they don’t really mean anything anymore. Especially since the magazine hasn’t been all that competitive for a while. It says a lot that we’ll have like 5 open slots in a few weeks, and that’s assuming Japan and David stick. Not really any chance of anything established to be cancelled when there’s not enough new stuff to put them in danger. They’d just be opening up more free slots they couldn’t fill...
Doesn’t help that most of the currently running series are well past their peak too, so there’s not even any real competition amongst the established series either. MHA and BC and the only running series that have already had an anime that aren’t on a downhill trend (though data for BC is a bit iffy, but it seems to be dropping too, or close to it - and no, I don’t care about magical digital sales). Everything with an anime announced is new and upcoming and going nowhere fast, so again, placements don’t matter. Then there’s Nak’s mindgames too.
The magazine is letting more and more series reach their conclusions naturally rather than cancelling them. Jump hardly feels like the Jump of a few years ago where it was a cutthroat competition between everything anymore. Apart from Jump cancelling new series in under 20 chapters, it’s not all that different from any of the other manga magazines nowadays.
The biggest cancellations we’ve had in the past two years since the 2016 purge were 4 ~70 chapter series (Samon, Straighten Up, Spring Weapon and RxL), which you can hardly consider devastating losses, and mostly survived due to lack of competition anyway. Meanwhile we’ve had Gintama end naturally, and you could argue Isobee and Saiki were the same, though it’s hard to say since they”re comedies (Hope I didn’t miss anything). Saiki’s continuation in Giga all but confirms it wasn’ cancelled though, and both authors had done multiple One Shots in the year or two leading up to their series’ ends too.
That detective manga thingy with the little guy sold less than <1 mil, same with hz
Not sure if we have print numbers for Muhyo, but just based off the sales we have for the last two volumes, it should’ve sold more than 1mil (both sold >50k and there’s 18 volumes so...)
