Yeah, first impression of Kamio Yui is pretty bland after the first chapter. And I didn't really enjoy the art. Might be a quick pass for that one.

I found myself swinging back and forth on whether or not I liked Yui Kamio a lot throughout the chapter and after having read it I'm still not really sure where I stand. I guess I'll have to see where it goes with the whole concept but I'm leaning more towards "no" at this point.

On another note, I really liked the new chapter of Saiyuki. It seems like a more story heavy manga then usually shows up in Jump, so I hope that doesn't cause readers to lose interest, but the cliffhanger was pretty cool. I'm really looking forward to seeing where it goes from here.

Why is it that I somehow have a feeling we're getting a timeskip in the next 2-3 chapters in Saiyuki? If I were in the author's position, I'd age up the characters until they were in middle school and then we'll get "Journey to the West" part come into play.
I could definitely see that happening with the first few chapters being a sort of prologue, but I'd kinda like to see the story develop a little more first. The first few chapters have been very dense with exposition, so it could be nice to slow down a bit and develop the characters before really getting into things. That's just personal preference though, I could see it going either way.

I liked Kamio Yui.
For me, it was the new series that I most liked since David-kun.
I hope Kamio Yui become a great success.

That's what I was thinking too. It really felt like these few chapters had a prologue-ish feel to it.

Using Yui Kamio instead of Kamio Yui (I know and understand why of course) sounds meh. Kamio Yui has a better flow for speaking and reading it.

For a mangaka that had things released long ago, the art is....well not good. At least for me.
Ch 1 serves as a pure introduction but Rosario + Vampire did this better. Period. It didn't have much effect on me. Sorry Shueisha, but I will not return for Chapter 2.

EDIT: Removed Mutou Black lol. Obviously this is a mangaka from Mago (which imo had a better art and started more than 10 years ago)

Impressions of Jump of this week:
-Act-age ultimately has became my favorite Jump manga
-This week has been strong. Very amazing chapters of Hero Academia, Black Clover, Kimetsu and Jujutsu
-David funny as usual
-Chainsawman new arc has vibes of last arc, but since manga is selling well, who knows
-Higuma looks like could already end. Ne0;lation still doesn't give these vibes
-Kami Yui chapter 1 has been...normal for me. It pretty much remembered me to Beelzebub.
-Last Saiyuki chapter 2 has been as good as chapter 1. For the moment I'm liking it so far.

The Last Saiyuuki Ch 2 was decent to read but it reads as a pure prologue so far which is a terrible thing to do in a magazine where readers want faster paced manga. But I will root for it.

Act-Age is absolutely stunning to read as always. It manages to reinvent itself constantly with new characters and feels fresh each time. Coupled with a great art....one of my fav WSJ manga right now.

So far, I liked the first chapter pretty well. It feels like it could be a delinquent-type series that'd normally appear in Weekly Shonen Champion. I'm definitely interested in learning more about the series. Last Saiyuuki's 2nd chapter was also pretty good, and I still find it surprising how different this story ended up being from my initial expectations from the promo art. Act-Age and David-kun had another set of great chapters. Higuma had the strongest chapter this week out of the Dark Trio, with the other 2 being just alright.

Mediocre setup chapter for Chainsawman. For something that is supposed to open a new big arc, it failed to make me "hype". Tragic backstory on point and very effective, everything else meh.

Gokutei Higuma is on a roll past 3 chapters, this one was fast paced, well written and serves a great development between the leads and the ending was cool.

Hungry Marie was a very, very, very good example of a manga which had no idea what it exactly should be or had any sense of a pace development. Kind of surprising coming from a mangaka that did Beelzebub, but the cancellation was not surprising at all.

Honestly, the pacing of this chapter of Chainsawman felt like that of a series that knew it was going to be ending soon and would need to rush its final arc. However, it seemed to be selling pretty well, so the quick pacing of the arc's setup left me a little confused. I know odds are against it, but I hope Higuma can sell well. I'm enjoying it more and more after the last few chapters

I thought the setup in Chainsawman's chapter was the closest thing to Fire Punch's level of writing and showing the feats of Gun Devil was pretty hype. Makes it more impressive how no one has ever located or seen it.

Higuma had developments sure but I don't think it "earned" any of it. The MC was down because of judging bad spirits that begged for mercy and gets cheered up in the same chapter. Something like this should have been stored later on because I don't see how the author is capable of giving him any room to grow in the future without resetting some of the developments. To make it worse, the author hasn't shown any spirit that the readers could sympathise with so the MC feeling sad felt forced.

That new series didn't grasp me too much but I liked the main girl. Meanwhile, last Sayuki continues to be a pretty nice surprise to me. I never thought that I would be that interested on the series.

I only accept Chiyoko for my Yonagi.

I don't know if I would put it in first but Act-Age is definitely top 3 to me.

When i looked the raw, i was kind of disappointed because it seemed too "normal", but when i actually read the translation i really liked Kamio Yui, it was a enjoyable and fun read, it was a very "honest" first chapter, just to introduce the main cast and the concept, nothing bad and i didn't think it was bland, it just didn't tried to explode people's head with crazy developments or tried to be pretentious.

I liked the main cast and i'm curious to see what Shiibashi has in mind, it can become something really good, Nura wasn't any "masterpiece" when it started, it took time to get really good.

weird that the official youtube channel hasn't uploaded the PV yet, since they already uploaded Saiyuki's by this time last week,

meanwhile enjoy a LQ(ish) screen recorded one.

Wouldn't be surprised if Chainsaw Man ends with Gun Devil one-shotting Denji, boss lady being like "oh well, I'll find another devil to use".
Chainsaw Man is a much more polished and focused attempt at a deconstruction than Fire Punch.

Kamio Yui really didn't leave much of an impression. Though it definitely had the vibes of a series from the mid 2000s with a school setting. Felt like I'd seen that pattern hundreds of time. Art was pretty disappointing for Shiibashi too.
