I mean you could argue that nobody(at least people in the West) care about any of the gag series
Doesn't it rely a lot on knowledge of Japan too? You need to be able to understand gags for them to be funny in the first place

Kimetsu no Yaiba: 4.5 million in print

does that mean 4.5 mil right now (14 volumes, print +digital?), or 4.5 mil in print when volume 15 comes out in April?

Amazing-Great Tier:
One Piece (Wano Arc is really fun right now)
Jujutsu Kaisen (Best new series but i feel like it still didn't reach its full potential)
Kimetsu no Yaiba
Hunter X Hunter (Would be higher but even though i like the new arc, the last 10 or so chapter, the progress was really slow)

Good-Mid Tier:
Act Age
My Hero Academia (its on a free fall right now)
Chainsawman
Hinomaru Zumou (waaay behind on this one)

Mid-Bad Tier
Black Clover (its borderline good tier now)
We Never Learn (even bigger quality fall than MHA)
Dr. Stone
The Promised Neverland
Yuragi (stopped reading somewhere around ch.100)
Boruto

People really hate the school arcs, huh? Look, I get the criticism about the last arc, and some valid points were made about it, but comments like this one up here is why I think a lot of the criticism about the last arc were overblown. If you're gonna talk about a "fall from grace", then the trash fire that is Souma would be a much better example.

A series doesn't have to have perfect arcs all the time. You can have mediocre arcs in between the amazing ones. Even OP & Naruto had some mediocre arcs inbetween.

  1. Black Clover: this arc is the most amazing and crazy arc we've had in a Jump manga in a while (I'm amazed about the very little credit this arc is having when I see the ranks of last two pages of this thread).
  2. Act-age
  3. My Hero Academia
  4. Promised Neverland
  5. Jujutsu Kaisen
  6. Kimetsu no Yaiba
  7. One Piece
  8. David-kun
  9. Dr.Stone
  10. Haikyuu
  11. WNL
  12. Chainsawman

My issue against MHA is bigger than the school arc. Yeah, it was just meh but one 'meh' arc doesn't mean it fell off. MHA could never really connect with me after the tournament arc (except the All Might fight). Even though nothing interesting is happening in MHA most of the times, i still give it a free pass because the characters are so likeable. The problem is, MHA always feels like its building up to something big but never really delivers on anything. It just meanders around in the story part without really reaching anything. The villains aren't that interesting either which doesn't help.

Let's not even talk about Soma, i forgot its even running in Jump. That needs its own tier.

Also, like the Overhaul Arc, it kinda was an arc that didn't read well on a chapter to chapter basis, but gains quality once you are able to go back and read it in bigger chunks. The Overhaul Arc was disliked as well at the time of its release, but these days, when talking about the upcoming aspects of it for the anime, manga readers seem much nicer and appreciative of the arc in retrospect.

Shokugeki is a gigantic fall from grace, yes. Series quality, reader reception and sales performance - if you wanna talk about a free fall, there you've got a real one. Shokugeki will 99% be one of the series that will end in the serialization round that launches Kishimoto's & Okubo's series.

After reading Kamio Yui, I have to say it's kinda meh for me. It kinda reminded me of Beelzebub, but neither as funny and neither as interesting. Will continue to read it and hope it gets better. I was hoping they would adapt the exorcist oneshot from last year Ishie no Horobimon (or something). It was much more fun read and it felt more like Nurarihyon and what Shiibashi was good.

Saigo no Saiyuki ch2 was also meh, felt kinda slow.

Gokutei Higuma: it seems the main enemy from Higuma no Te is appearing:
so guess this confirms Higuma no Te isn't prequel to Gokutei Higuma, and the series don't have connections.

Kimetsu is a bit weird for me, it's been pretty good but those translations are pretty painful at times. When they use terms like hashira or kizuki, its pretty annoying at times. I don't get why they can't user pillars/upper moon demon. I can never, ever get used to those translations and nitpicks aside, it's honestly weird how they translate it, especially with the latest chapter. I know Viz took away term like "pig assault", stuff like that keeps me away from buying the volumes. I would rather much import the vols from Japan than buy the English volumes.

Kimetsu's final arc feels like it's going to be more on the asspull side. Kinda hard to believe with all the training/growth/powerups he went through that Tanjirou is able to fight against an upper moon like Akaza. Rengoku was depicted as being the strongest pillar and he had trouble keeping up.

Honestly, nothing that I'm reading weekly in WSJ is "enjoyable". I feel like a break from the magazine would help. That or catch up on the series I've placed on hold.

Keep in mind that recency is a bias here. In descending order.

Tier 1 - Wait until I'm home on my computer to read
Chainsawman. Black Clover. We Never Learn. Kimetsu no Yaiba. Act Age. Jujutsu Kaisen.

Tier 2 - Prefer reading on computer
Hunter x Hunter. Haikyuu. One Piece. Dr. Stone. Hinomaru Zumou. Promised Neverland. Boku no Hero.

Tier 3 - Read on my phone when bored
David. Boruto. Saiyuki. Kamio Yui. Higuma. Jimoto. Yuuna. Neolation. Shokugeki.

Gintama and World Trigger would be at the top.

Currently my list probably would be like that

Bokuben
Act-Age
Yuragi-Sou no Yuna-san
The Last Sayuuki
Black Clover
Chainsaw Man
Neverland
David-kun
My Hero Academia
Dr. Stone
Jujutsu Kaisen
Kimetsu no Yaiba
One Piece

I dropped Soma in chapter 30 in 2012 and Boruto in the beginning of the manga. Still need to begin Haikyuu which is the other one from current titles that interest me.

Figures a bunch of the ones they picked for Manga+ are the least selling. I wonder what their logic for the choices was, Abyss Rage, Blue Flag and a couple others I get but why Moon Land of all things? or Land Lock/Nano Hazard/8LDK which they already knew were doing horribly?

And ironically they didnt pick up Slave which showed some actual potential to stay lol.

Maybe not spectacular as you say, but Chainsaw did right on the money in my prediction before Shoseki Day 1 even landed (20-25k, Charts on Oricon). Decent start, but hopefully grows.

David Kun is dead, dead, dead, dead. Unless it gets an anime somehow or it moves to SJ+. These sales are horrific for WSJ standards and the fact it dropped in Volume 2 tells it has no potential to grow. Too bad as I like the manga, but it was rejected in Japan.
