Dr. Stone being outsold by JJK and AA which are much younger and don't have anime adaptations announced either to bolster hype yet Stone is always near the top of ToC 🤔🤔🤔

WRT S8, I think they are gonna release volume 1 and 2 simultaneously ala Toriko which is why October makes sense

I started Spy X Family manga today, it's really funny and good.Kind of like Kaguya Sama Love is War.
Spy x Family is absolutely amazing. It reminds me a lot of *early* Kaguya's chapters, which I loved a lot. Though Kaguya has now shifted it's tone to darker themes so it's not comparable anymore. Still a huge fan, while the current ongoing arc may and probably will not be liked by some people for the *spoilers* reasons.

I mean, for one it is obvious Shueisha is pushing it because of the anime. And two, the readers of the magazine and the volume buyers don't have to correlate. See Double Arts, Mx0, Psyren, Anedoki (had solid sales at the moment and or had rises but were axed because of the reception), and Dance Club, Hinomaru Zumou (well recieved but poor sales), Enigma, Kurogane and Magico (had great early reception which never translated long term in sales) and others.

I mean, Jump has a little weapon nowadays called proper promo campaigns.

Because the attempts to make Toriko a phenomena on par with Dragon Ball and One Piece worked so well.

Tell me about it. I hated how Psyren, Dance Club and Mx0 never got anime for some reason, and I think all could have benefited. At least Medaka Box was lucky. Magazine wise, I don't think much changed in how they push their newbies to be honest, except that there is a bigger social networks reach (which still doesn't help for majority of their newbies). Samurai 8 (and the Ziga-Noah-JK batch) is an isolated case, sadly.

I mean promo's once the series shows promise. Act-Age only really took off once it was in a position where Jump could feel confident promoting it.

I felt they did it much better back then when the sacred quartet of Ansatsu, Nisekoi, Haikyuu and Kusuo Saiki launched back them. That was a great time when Shueisha utilized promotion on their promising newbies well.

I also remember how Jump treated Enigma and Magico at the beginning, giving them constant CPs after 2-3 chapters spaced lol. Which is ironic, because even the color page spamming (which would bring them to being present on the covers regularly as well) didn't help much. Though Jump was struggling to launch things around that time, so.

I think the infamous two year drought is more the fault of the environment at the time. Jump was basically the One Piece/Naruto/Bleach/Gintama show, with the Big 3 at their absolute peak of popularity and a whole backlog of other series behind them. It was kind of a time where nothing could really break in because Jump had very little room for anything else, the Big 3 were that monalithic.

Then, around 2012, we had that crack occur when Bleach suffered a noticeable decline in popularity after the defeat of Aizen and the Fullbringer Arc, Toriko's push officially backfired, and Reborn's lack of real plotting caught up to it and caused it to crash and burn. After that, Jump's unbreakable armor stopped looking so unbreakable, and, with Naruto's ever-approaching conclusion, it became clear they couldn't be complacent.

Nowadays, pretty much the entire "armor" of Jump is gone, all of the series which were running during 2010 are gone sans One Piece, which has been running for so long that at this point it's no longer really part of the roster in the same way the others are, it's basically gained the same position Kochikame has as a mascot rather than an active competitor. Even the faces of the current era like MHA don't have the same pull the Big 3 had, and I doubt that's gonna change either.

I think you're underselling MHA a bit here, I remember a while ago about how Oda mentioned that his daughter loved MHA and how kids her age were talking about it. I think that for this generation, MHA has the same impact as the Big 3 once did. It may never reach the Big 3's sales back in their heyday, but as far its impact goes, I definitely think it's going to be remembered by the current generation of kids the same way we remember the Big 3. And besides, the Big 3 era was a different time when prints were still the only way people could enjoy manga.

Nowadays, this generation can access manga on multiple platforms, so print numbers don't mean as much as back then as digital readership/sales are slowly creeping into the print market. It's probably not as sizable as people think, but it is rather significant and appears to be growing each year. How much it does factor into sales is up in the air, but it is a factor, nonetheless.

Another possible reason might be the seasonal nature of the anime, which as we can see affects the sales going up and down. Although I am glad BONES chose the seasonal route, I still can't help but wonder what sales would be like if they adapted it ala Pierrot.

Oh, I don't deny that HeroAca is the face of the current era. I simply make the point that nothing really comes close to the domination that the Big 3 had. Let's not forget, by Volume 13, Naruto was already selling 800k.

Those were exceptions, the far majority of established series on jump got some kind of anime since Dr Slump.

Nisekoi launched in 2011 though. The others in 2012.
