I'm still hoping the first volume sales (and the possible end of Hinomaru and Soma) will give Shueisha enough reason to keep Saiyuki, but those chances are pretty slim at best.

Soma could end up in a few chapters, but most readers expect Soma and Erina to have a final battle, which I personally find unnecessary, since Mama is stronger than Erina and seeing the spoiler the dispute souma vs erina would be only a fanservice.

Hinomaru I do not follow

Yuuna is at the beginning of the arc (which may be the last), so I think it lasts another year and a half.

I could see the Shogugeki going the route where Soma wins, he gears up for his final match with Erina but they timeskip instead of showing it, since the major parts of the story are already over. Or they do a match, Erina wins but says Soma's food is delicious. Either way I don't see it taking more than a few chapters since the climax is basically over.

How many chapters does a regular first volume covers?? I'm guessing it's seven, so if i'm wrong, please correct me.
- It covered a lot, world backstory, main villains, reason for confront and main battle system, although they did present other important concepts only after, a lot has been made already, so I feel comfortable saying check.
- Everything (that doesn't take part in a backstory) has something to do with Ryuunosuke, so I guess it's a check.
- Ryuunosuke, Koharu, Sai, Gohaku (the dad).
- Stop Koharu from materializing several monsters around the entire world, to do so, protect her from the Followers of Caos, i would also say check.
About that...
-"Getting through the boring introduction stuff" is kinda codeword for getting into the interesting plot developments. And it's kinda hard to see the series having done that when, by the end of Chapter 7, it still had yet to leave Ryunosuke's house.
-This is true, so I'll give a pass on that.
-One little problem there, Gohaku isn't named until Chapter 11 through throwaway dialogue. If the character lacks as much as a name, he's not firmly established.
-Again, the manga does not leave Ryunosuke's house at all in Volume 1. How can the manga have "drive" when it hasn't expanded the location whatsoever?

I really enjoy The Last Saiyuki, but these critiques are super valid. It reminds me a lot of Belmondo le Visiteur, a fascinating series that nonetheless took SO DANG LONG to leave a single location that it doomed itself, regardless of the quality of the stories told in that one location. You gotta have some variety

Same, it feels like one of those series where you need to hold out through a less than stellar opening to get to the really good parts. Unfortunately, that's not a system that works well in Jump.

Because the attempts to make Toriko a phenomena on par with Dragon Ball and One Piece worked so well.
Jump gave it the same billing as OP and Naruto
you're thinking of Toei

I hated how Psyren, Dance Club and Mx0 never got anime for some reason
Psyren and Dancing midget were not that popular to begin with
Mx0 was supposed to be a short series but jump forced Kano to make it longer

I felt they did it much better back then when the sacred quartet of Ansatsu, Nisekoi, Haikyuu and Kusuo Saiki launched back them.
it was Niseko, AssClass, HQ and Soma
Saiki wasn't part of that promotion, the author even jokingly complained about it

Shishunki Renaissance! David-kun (END)
Jimoto ga Japan (move to Saikyou Jump)
good, hope Japan end soon too
Kuroki & Hayashi could do better, I see the potential in both

I hope Kamio sells decently.
it will, Nura have a very dedicated fanbase
however decent sales couldn't save Illegal Rare and it won't save Kamio at this rate

Checking this thread weekly hoping for any HxH news is painful :feelsbadman
wait for new serialization rounds, it won't return suddenly and without an announcement

At this point, Jump may very well do what they did with Isobee Monogatari and give the next gag manga which gains some remote sliver of success complete immunity to cancellation. (Yeah, did you know that? That was a thing)
this is common knowledge
before Isobee there was Jaguar and after Isobee there was Tomato Poodle (before the author's illness)
this normal for Jump

the manga constantly explains the references, meaning that the jokes are basically ruined anyway for those who do get it.
this is only in the translation, the Japanese version doesn't explain the jokes

Well, Sayuki, this pretty much sets your tombstone.
I'm so sad about this since I like the storytelling and it reminds me good old mangas where great things took time to happen.
The author should switch magazines, Jump is a waste for him.
this post took me back to when Horikoshi returned with HeroAca
"is he a masochist?"
"just go to Sunday"
"can't wait until he get axed in 12 chapters"

U19 was hated in Japan from what I remember, but I did love the concept itself. Hopefully the mangaka returns, completely MIA since the axe.
they wrote just as awful exorcist manga last year

Yuu Miki (Cyborg Ningen Roggy, also sci-fi flop in WSJ) as well, publishing one miniseries on GIGA and going MIA for 3 years now.
they also wrote the aliens oneshot before the GIGA kendo miniseries, I enjoyed both

I think a good, and unique manga that appeals to meme culture would be a success
tell that to Ziga
well made
unique kaiju manga
shark girl waifu meme

Dude on the left would fit so well in KnB universe.
some people see HQ influence, you see KnB influence, I see YowaPeda
anyone else want to add this fujos sports list

Does anyone have an insight as to why Kento Matsura is serving as the artist to someone else's concept instead of serializing his own manga which actually won the GFC?

Huh, really? That's...interesting. Also, wait, Tomato Poodle left because the author fell ill?

Also, that basically means the point of Japan goes back to it being unreadable to anyone without detailed cultural knowledge of obscure trivia.

Serialized manga he submitted most likely didn't meet standards of editorial.

Also, Jump has been trying to get more writer/artist duos. More consistent, less burnout, etc.

It did those things, there's just too much dialogue. The arts really good, if the author focused on that standing out using his art I think it would've been more successful. Who nows, with the first arc coming up maybe it'll have decent reception and climb up the ToC
The dialogue argument is really valid, most thoughts presented, mainly in the first chapters could have been done with simple 3 to 4 words sentences, it detailed every feeling the characters had when it could just combine the art with those simple sentences.

Thing is, it did all that in ch 1 (aside from having 3 characters introduced rather than 4). Then it spend most of the rest of vol 1 on an extra story that just repeated what we already learned and saw in ch 1 but worse. And then it spent another half a volume introducing characters that seemed like they'd be interest but it just resulted in even more sitting in a room infodumping stuff of we already know.
Yeah, with that I would disagree, in chapter 1 we only saw a Nyoibo, but had 0 idea of what the hell was that thing, no mentioning of the Followers of Caos, only a simple glimpse at the possible future monster apocalypse, the only idea of confront that could be made given by chapter 1 was fighting nameless, created by fear, random monsters that would only exist if some accident occured with Koharu, by the way, we also had NO mentioning about mou, up until chapter 3 is the only part of the story where that old argument of "having no idea where the story is leading" is valid, you could argue with that, but I don't see it going much further than chapter 5, wich is still on the first volume, it's not extra story, it's important new elements to it, I think you only considered it "repetitiveness" and "worst" because of your personal disinterest, wich is fine, but not actually an argument, although being a infodump is, I can see why some would think it's just too much information, especially with expositive dialogue and the characters just sitting and talking.

- I can see that as valid until Sai came in, fighting him is already a great development and use of all the talking in previous chapters, a true genuine fight, wich is what battle mangas are trying to achieve, so although it is part of the introduction, i can't see it as a "boring start" at least not like the rest of the chapters (except 1, can't see any of that in it as well), you could argue it is just on the end of the volume, but it's still part of it, and whoever buys it will read it entirely, so I don't see a problem.
- It's hard for him to be named when he only interacts with:
•His son (would only call him "dad").
•A girl that silences herself because talking is dangerous.
•A guy who doesn't know his name (Sai only knew Ryuunosuke's name because of his psychic connection with Koharu).
•His son's friend (also has no idea what his name is).
- That is true, the manga only shows the route it wants to follow, but never actually gets fully on it, it keeps it as only a "possibility", so yeah, Vol.1 doesn't fill that correctly.

If so then why not have him rework it until it met their standards? Further, Jump audience voted for it not editorial. Clearly the voters saw something in it they wanted. So who is editorial to deny him the chance? Why even have the GFC then?

Also, the original Tokyo Shinobi Squad one shot had not so good art (in my opinion) so I understand getting a new artist but it seems that the serialized version will be a complete rework. If the original one shot was so flawed (as editorial saw it anyway) why even serialize it at all? There's plenty of other things that could have be greenlit for serialization instead I'm sure.

Not many chapters were translated, and we probably won’t ever see them translated, so it’s not like I’ll ever be able to continue reading it

he was the artist for the GFC entry not the writer

also, Hono Mieru Shonen was already published TWICE before it won the GFC
once with the author Yuugo Gotou doing both writing and art
and once with a different artist named Motohiro Kai

my guess the author preferred the other 2 options
