I enjoyed Beast Children more than I expected!
Back in high school, rugby was THE sport of my school and it was compulsory for everyone to learn it and play. I hated it. When the teachers and coaches explained it, they would always say stuff like 'Rugby is a gentleman's game's. On the other hand when I asked my friends who were ruggers; most would describe the fun as 'its fun tackling people'. I think that Beast Children (to me at least) conveys the players' thrills correctly.
Things I liked:
1 - It feels passionate! (See paragraph above)
2 - The Sora character, the part where he saved Sakura's butt by asking a question to the teacher had me laughing for some time.
He feels refreshing to me.
3 - Although the MC is short, the manga never says anything about that being a disadvantage, nor is something that the MC feels is his weakness. In fact, I recall there being a sentence saying how "no matter if you're fat or small, tackling people with all you've got is the true thrill of rugby".
4 - I just like Sakura too, he just gives off a good vibe I don't know why. I especially liked the gag in the locker room when he said "Rugby club ready too!" or something
Things I didn't really like:
1- Yukito. I feel like the "I'll show you the tricks this one time when we coincidentally meet BUT when I see you again later I'll angrily refuse to do it" thing has been done many times already but I still hope that somehow this can be refreshing too.
2- Minor nitpick I guess, but how nobody made a fuss at all when Sakura fell onto the field
Overall I think it's good so far, maybe because I wasn't expecting to like a rugby story, since I hated rugby back in school. I can't wait to see how the author steers the direction of this story.
