After putting off reading Double Taisei this entire time, I decided to dive into the first chapter, and next thing I knew I was caught up! For something I was expecting to be fodder, I absolutely loved it and found it to be such a pleasant read. It really nails the weekly format with its cliffhangers, too many new series completely fail at hooking you in for the next week. Heard people say its confusing or doesn’t know what it wants to be, but reading it all at once I don’t think there was anything of the sort.

For something like Shogi, they really do have to make it more about the character’s lives to make it interesting, much like Sangatsu does. It’s a relatively normal concept, but executed in a way that feels fresh. Reminds me act-age in a sense. That said, I’m not sure it’s a concept with much longevity, so unless something major changes, it’ll probably be good to keep it short.

Hopefully MHA movie moves on from the “this story is semi-canon” nonsense. What’s the point of that? Battle shonen movies have always been about putting the fan favorites into situations that the canon story will never put them into. Just look at OP movies. Throw the characters into a cool situation, have them save the day, then move on to the next movie.

Doubtful they’ll head in that direction though.

Yeah, that's the problem. There just aren't very many characters... like, at all lol. And it may be too late at this point to get things going there.

The problem with Double Taisei's "cliffhangers" is that the manga feels brainless. Every chapter the author is trying a radically different concept as if he's not really certain what Earth he's doing. The result is a manga which feels barely lucid.

Also, the thing which 3gatsu did that made it work is that the situation was down to earth and thus the manga could explore the drama more naturally. Not many people I imagine are Shogi prodigies with a split personality who's even more of a prodigy.

I care, and I say more people should too. Pushing non-main-series materials as canon or semi canon only introduces potential plot holes to the main story, while serving no purpose to the main story itself since many readers only follow the main manga (which means, these audience will never know what was covered in movies or what have you)

These movies are really just a huge fanservice. Not like there’s anything wrong with fanservice mind you, but they should be treated as such and kept as far away from the main story. Unfortunately for MHA, apparently they keep pushing non-canon materials as canon or semi-canon.

I wouldn't be surprised if plans are already in motion but the production is barely getting by right now.
Seriously, it's about time for a Black Clover movie to be announced, the anime is popular, it's entering the 3rd year and doesn't look like it's stopping anytime soon, i do get the "staff" concerns but can't Pierrot just hire more animators and make a team to focused on the movie and the others in the anime? (i'm no expert about anime production...)

Wow this is pretty much 100% how i feel about Futari no Taisei, i'ts a breath of fresh air in the sport genre inside Shonen Jump, i do get a bit of the "it doesn't know what it wants to be" but i find nothing in the manga really confusing to follow or understand. It's quite sad that the first ranking that it's supposed to be about the first chapter got placed in the bottom, it was a great first chapter in my opinion.

Yeah...it's not that easy. Anime as an industry is severely undermanned and overproduced, and there's simply no way Perriot can afford a Black Clover movie without, say, canceling Boruto. Which would honestly be a good thing, but you know they're not gonna do that.

I mean, most people I talk to like having canon material outside of the main series, it adds depth and satisfies the the more hardcore fans curiosity. You mention the One Piece movies, but really those are non-canon because there's no way to fit anything "big" into the New World outside of the manga, the denseness of the plotting and the Straw Hats being separated from Dressrosa onward causes that.

Also, it's worth noting that Japan doesn't really have a definition for "canon", so everything is canon as long as there aren't any explicit contradictions and the author has some degree of involvement. All the Jump novels are canon for example, sans the Kimetsu and WNL novels which are explicit AUs.

I sensed that this new round would have been a disaster. Only a matter of time until Tokyo Shinobi joins the bunch.

Yep. A massively underwhelming "big return' for Kishimoto, and a bunch of manga so incredibly mediocre that you're practically counting the chapters until they get axed.

A good thing for you, not for me since i'm a fan, and Pierrot doesn't need to cancel things to make a movie, Naruto and Bleach were being produced at the same time and popping up movies together many times not to mention other animes being produced too.

Toei has One Piece, Precure, Kitaro, Oshiri Tantei and the rumoured sequel to DBS being produced at the same time and they just have Stampede to be released soon, a new DB movie in very early stages, a new Digimon movie announced and 2 Sailor Moon movies announced too, it's just a matter of Shueisha or Pierrot wanting to make a BC movie
