don't move the goal post just because you were proven wrong
1-you were judging a book by its cover so i explained why that was wrong using hxh
2-they didn't reject it after "took one look a it" it ran in the magazine
3-again, you said "took one look at it and rejected it as an ongoing because of how childish it looks " they didn't reject a series for looking childish

Buy Moria
from my understanding he's not writing or drawing it

just providing concept and direction for an assistant

Akuten Wars is based on a namu he drew a long time ago

but it's true, Akuten Wars was published in a seinen magazine (Grand Jump)
My bad, I skimmed and thought he was talking about HxH.

Even to this date I still fail to understand how Spring Weapon survived for as long as it did

Well, if anything, the final arc of Spring Weapon was actually pretty cool when the author got serious.

I mean...Grand Jump is aimed at geezers. It runs stuff which is very much out of any youthful interest range, so that just makes it seem like Jump had nowhere better to put it.
Yeah, you never gave a look at Grand Jump right? it's really a magazine for adults but it's far from being a magazine for "geezers" or not having any manga with appeal for younger people, and i know that because i've been in touch with all the "Jump" seinen magazines since 2011 following the magazine raw and manga covers, so i don't really think it has anything to do with not having where to put the manga.

I never said that Kubo doesn't care about the story and i personally also like it. I just don't believe its the main selling point of Bleach. The characters and just the 'style' of Bleach are its main selling point but thats my personal opinion. Its not like i did a street survey on it.
Tbh, Kubo's style of drawing fights is VERY similar to what Murata does with OPM with the difference that Bleach had a page limit to show its fights while OPM can literally go for a 50 page chapter and it'd be okay. Both go for a very cinematic approach in the angles and perceptions they use for their fights. An example being like how Ichigo entered Soul Society (both times) in the last arc and how Kubo made it extremely cinematic (the 2nd one especially). The chapters were focused solely on his entrance (which did annoy a lot of readers since it was a weekly chapter) and Ichigo's "cool" or "angry" reaction to what was happening.
I'd pay A LOT of money to see Kubo have the creative freedom that Murata has with OPM. Something that's purely focused on cool looking action and characters and less on the story. This is all assuming Kubo is healthy and wants to draw again.

not to mention in the announcement of discontinuing Super Jump and lunching Grand Jump, it's says it's the new mag is aimed at adults liberated from their age and breaking boundaries between generations or something along these lines

anyway, back to the topic at hand which is monsters manga
me dabbing on Galaxy Gangs stans when Toteku won 2015 GFC
vs me when the author wrote Poro

I'm not denying that view of the series, but I think the issue is one part an overindulgence on spectacle being detrimental to Bleach's pacing and storytelling and also how Kubo's worsening technique when it came to creating characters (I am genuinely impressed anyone is able to remember the names of any of the Vanderreich) made a lot of the fights feel empty, after a while the fights became less clashes between characters and more just random obstacles to be overcome.

This seems like a pointless distinction that doesn't actually mean anything.

Also, Kubo's characters did NOT get worse over time. The Quincy were some of the best characters, if only because they were actual threats, unlike the Arrancar and Fullbringers overall.

So everyone, how would you rank the 6 newbies so far (Saiyuki, Yui, Samurai 8, Taisei, Beast and Tokyo Shinobi) by your enjoyment?
Saiyuki, by a huge margin
Beast Children
Double Taisei
Samurai 8
Tokyo Shinobi Squad

I only read one chapter of Yui Kamio, but I really disliked it. Not sure how the current chapter would rank.

No ranking, just my thoughts. Expecting one of the five will probs stick around a while simply because there’s essentially 6 corpses for something to survive on. Personally, I kinda want Beast and Yui to stick around though.

Beast Children: I feel like it’s only really fallen flat with its supporting cast. My heart sank when I saw that spread of the team before the first match started. Didn’t realise how many were on a Rugby team, and that just makes it 10x easier for the author to lose focus of them. Should’ve done what HQ did and have a practice match within the team first to introduce other first years or something. That said, I do think it’s possible for it to redeem itself.

Double Taisei: By far the best first 6 chapters or so, but became uninteresting as it failed to expand its world and focused more on the shogi. The personality switching being the focus was actually quite nice.

Shinobi: Will probably survive simply because it’s handled its characters the best by far, and that’s all that’s really necessary for a series to gain an audience. That said, I still don’t like it much at all.

Sam8: Fine. Was expected to have a slower start since it’s going to end up at a way larger scale than anything else and you can’t just rush into that.

Saiyuki: Had so much potential and was so neat. Really looked forward to them finally leaving the house, but it’s been boring af since and lost all my interest.

Yui: More boring than average romcom. Was looking very interesting with it’s horror change, but the arc that immediately followed has sucked. Still want to give it the benefit of the doubt since I think it has more potential that many of the others.

Personally i think it’s been a pretty good year though. It’s rare that I don’t drop newer series by chapter five or so, so the fact I’ve stuck with 7/9 (Dropped Higuma & Ne0) says they’re at least keeping a tiny amount of my interest.

Cuz it was a phoenix :derp. Though I find it kind of funny that when Spring Weapon started, its sales were considered so horribly bad, and yet literally as soon as it ended (around Bozebeats) just about every new series except the three that have stuck since started doing just as badly or even worse. Its like the phoenix left a curse in its wake when it was finally killed lol.

My best guess is that SW1's prolonged survival was a result of editorials obsession with trying to 1. Salvage their gag manga and 2. Get more younger readers. Needless to say, both failed, pretty much.

  1. Sam8 is really blowing up with that last chapter.
  2. TSS shows potential.
  3. Yui Kamio is fun and has style.
  4. Beast Children is good at generating hype.
  5. Saiyuki is slow but the art is good.
  6. No idea wtf Double Taisei's author is doing but it's occasionally interesting.

The fact the poro author went with that serialization instead of Genjui Toteku is criminal. Really hoping he was just using poro to get used to the magazine before coming back with Toteku.

Oh boy, I’m being baited, aren’t I, haha. It’s aimed at adults, true (also without really going for any specific gender identity, which is kinda refreshing, even if it’s still quite businessmen-y), but there’s definitely stuff in there that has a broad appeal age-wise.

Besides the two-shot in question ran in a special issue of the now-defunct spin-off magazine GJ Premium, along with special chapters of SEVERAL Weekly Shonen Jump staples. It was kind of a gimmick for WSJ’s anniversary, and having a “never before published Togashi story” was a part of that gimmick, rather than it being an actual trial run for a series like a lot of one-shots are.

I think that distinction could make sense if we're comparing Bleach to something with a deeper story or more character-driven, but Bleach itself was all about the spectacle since pretty much always. Soul Society probably had the most meaningful fights(such as Ishida vs Mayuri), but only a few of them were, and it definitely stopped the moment Aizen got involved.

It stopped the moment Aizen got involved? Are you referring to after that point? Because
Yamamoto killing the Quincy that killed his Vice Captain, and Rukia killing As Nodt
was without question meaningful.

Neverland's magic mumbo jumbo is disappointing but the rest of the chapter was pretty good, besides the lazy "Teleports behind you". Come on Kaiu Shirai you can do better.
I wouldn't judge his abilities and say it's lazy that he is like ultra-fast when we almost know nothing about them when it comes to battles.

Guys, I don't want to fill the topic with too much of any specific series discussion. I recommend that you guys take this conversation to the MHA topic/section.
