@Mankichi Togawa:

If you are gonna count every spin off made by the original author? Or what's your criteria?
Because Kinnikuman has the Kinnikuman sequel with Kinnikuman's kid, Hokuto No Ken has a lot of spin-offs, so does Shaman King (All made by Takei himself) and yeah you should count Shaman King it was a Shueisha property for the better part of its sales/popularity, Saint Seiya also has a lot of spin offs (Although made by other authors)..

IIRC the dog manga Ginga Densetsu has like 100 volumes in total with all its spin-offs...

So, what's your criteria to count towards 'total chapters'? Does it have to be a continuation of the original manga e.g. Saint Seiya next Dimension? Clearly it doesn't have to be drawn by the original author (Because you included Dragon Ball Super and Boruto).

BTW I think a better way to 'measure' a series true length is by volumes, volumes at least tend to be more 'uniform' in size, usually 180-200 pages per volume, while chapters are 18 pages for weekly but monthly can be longer like 40 pages or longer, or in weird cases like Jaguar be like 9 pages long, or as you said Dragon Ball had 14 page chapters, or for ill authors sometimes they let them draw shorter chapters... Heck, even the New Prince of Tennis chapters are weird, some are 9 pages long, while others are 15, etc etc...

Also other title that probably would have like 500 chapters is Ring ni kakero, it has a sequel drawn by Kurumada himself.

EDIT: Wow! the dog manga Ginga Nagareboshi Gin's original publication in WSJ lasted for 18 volumes and its sequels have 113 volumes more, bringing the Ginga series to 131 volumes in total, all drawn by the original author.

Oh yeah Ring ni Kakero and Nagareboshi Gin. And I also think Sakigake has a sequel or spinoff or whatever.

At the beginning I was doing only sequels, but spinoffs that happen in same universe could be interesting. I think I'm complicating myself a lot tbh lol

And yep, volumes could be a better way to measure series lengths.

Saint Seiya has the classic series and Next Dimension, only. I don't know if Lost Canvas, Lost Canvas Gaiden, Episode G, Episode G:Assassin, Omega, Saintia Sho and all the other spin offs counts as they weren't made by Kurumada

Now that I notice it, almost all the big Jump franchises are still more or less running. Now I'm refering to original authors:

-Kinnikuman is serializing with original counting, I think is biweekly, not sure.
-JoJo the same.
-Kenshin is serializing with Hokkaido.
-Captain Tsubasa is serializing with Rising Sun.
-Dragon Ball is serializing with Super.
-Naruto is serializing with Boruto (not Kishimoto, but even Kishimoto treats it at the official sequel).
-Prince of Tennis is serializing as New Prince of Tennis (with already more chapters than PoT).
-Saint Seiya is serializing (supposedly, in hiatus since last December) with Next Dimension.
-Sakigake Otokojuku (Akira Miyashita doing the sequel-spinoff 5434529).
-Ginga: Nagareboshi Gin (Yoshihiro Takahashi doing the sequel-spinoff 452352).
-NuBe (sequel on-going).
-Play Ball (sequel on-going).
-Hoshin Engi (sequel on-going? Didn't the manga restart like last year?)

Big titles that aren't serializing:
-Bleach
-Yu Yu Hakusho (well, Togashi is with HxH)
-Slam Dunk (Inoue is with Real)
-Yu-Gi-Oh (if you mean Takahashi, Yu-gi-oh has continuously spinoffs titles by other authors).
-City Hunter (still, Tsukasa Hojo ended Angel Heart in 2017, and he can always continue the world of City Hunter if he wants)
-Hokuto no Ken (Souten no Ken ended in 2010 (still, two other authors is doing Souten no Ken - Regenesis which is ongoing). Tetsuo Hara is doing since 2010 Ikusa no Ko: Legend of Oda Nobunaga. Buronson dunno what he's doing).

In case of City Hunter and Hokuto no Ken, I wouldn't be surprised if there is something currently ongoing in Monthly Comic Zenon which I hadn't noticed.

PD: All this Jump sequel stuff remind me that I should watch Mazinger Z: Infinity movie (from last year, continuation of the Mazinger Z that was in Jump).

Wouldn't it make more sense to compare volumes instead of chapters, because some of those series like Jojo started releasing less chapters but they're longer.

Also Kochikame is so long that if I'm not mistaken if Dragon Ball went on that long not only would it still be ongoing but it wouldn't end for another 5 years, insane.

yeah, but I'm talking about these tournaments

doing more digging, they also won the Gold medal in volley ball in 1972 Munich Olympic
Yeah, volley in japan was and is popular(although after the begining of haikyuu , the number of children playing the game increased), but I think the medal is a weak proof.

Japan had a bronze medal in football in a 60s Olympics and it wasn't until Captain tsubasa that football began to be popular.

Updates on the Amazon preorder figures, TSS, Beast and Taisei continue to be flops, with Taisei and Beast doing worse than Saiyuki. Yui is around 6000, Act-Age and WNL are hovering around 1000, Stone 700 and Haikyu 150.

So is TSS the most popular out of the 3? Can it be saved?

More optimistic answer: it could gain popularity after release. Chainsaw Man also did not have amazing preorder numbers, but started selling out volumes after hitting shelves.

with the recent success of spy x family, no one in here can claim they are expert in sales.

I'll give myself and some of yall that guess the first week sales correctly (~50,000), but that's about it lol.

SxF's success was foreshadowed by preorders.

I'm not claiming to be a sales expert anyway. All these figures I'm using are relative to each other.

BTW, I'm still shocked that Yui is apparently doing so comparatively well. Are people that into Shiibashi?

Why is everyone so certain that we're going to get three years of school?
The 1st year is about to end.
Last chapter noted that they are a few days away from winter break. Meaning the second year will be starting probably before we leave the 200s
And Deku still has 7 powers to master before the series ends.

I agreed

3. Gintama - 78 volumes
4. Bleach - 74 volumes
5. Naruto - 72 volumes
6. Toriko- 43 volumes

Look at that huge gap between #5 and #6. I guess top 5 will stay the same for a long time.

-Hoshin Engi (sequel on-going? Didn't the manga restart like last year?)
Hoshin Engi’s sequel was just one volume to help promote the anime. He’s been serialising Legend of the Galactic Heroes for a few years now, and is still doing so. It went on break for like 7 weeks so he could do the Hoshin Engi thing last year or whenever it was.

going back to chapter counts, Naruto has 710 Kishimoto chapters in WSJ total. Why does everyone forget the 10 chapter sequel epilogue Kishi did? Like someone even added in the Bort chapter count to it yet still forgot the 10 extra chapters actually by Kishimoto. I remember they were titled ch 700+1, 700+2 or something so they are part of the main series rather than Bort.

Or is it 711? I forget if that Mitsuki oneshot was in WSJ or not.

It's ahead of Gintama if you're going by WSJ content either way since Gintama's last few were in other magazines, the last chapter in wsj was 698.

Yeah, but that doesn't mean that there will be three whole school years.
What if Shigaraki and the PLF attack UA in the middle of that? What if they win?

It's not that there will be 3 years shown, more that it's certainly possible and would allow it to reach a decade. Same with Black Clover expanding out into the surrounding countries for future arcs, it might not do arcs about them all but it's a clear option if it plans to go for a long time.
