just set the limit to 7-8 chapters, that would be enough content for 1 volume, also that's 8 weeks/2 months
I think until we're reasonably certain it'll survive. For instance, Yozakura is on the fence in that regard, so for the time being, it'll be on-topic to discuss it. Stuff like Chainsawman will definitely survive. My one question is this: When would we decide that a new series is old or established enough for it to not be talked about in-depth here? Would it be if it ends up being clear that the manga won't flop, or would a certain amount of time (or a certain amount of chapters) have to be released before? Especially since we have series that are going to be axed but are in the magazine for longer than usual.

But then you run the risk of an RxL situation. Fantastic first volume sales, but ultimately ended up canned after that. Three volumes worth seems more logical, TBH.just set the limit to 7-8 chapters, that would be enough content for 1 volume, also that's 8 weeks/2 months
In my opinion, you should allow new series from the new batch to be discuss here UNTIL the next batch come (with at least 2 series), then they should be in their own discussion, and we don't have to wait that long eitherI think until we're reasonably certain it'll survive. Samurai 8, despite the sales and ToC positions, will also likely survive for at least a year or more.

That's not that far off from the two volumes thing I mentioned earlier. I don't want the topic to devolve into discussion on what counts as new. So, I'll make the distinction now.In my opinion, you should allow new series from the new batch to be discuss here UNTIL the next batch come (with at least 2 series), then they should be in their own discussion, and we don't have to wait that long either
Higuma to Saiyuki
14-3 = ~11 weeks
Tokyo Shinobi Squad to Yozakura Family
39-27 = ~12 weeks
so if you go with this approach then miitama, yozakura family, and dr stone spin off are allowed here. This is strictly talking about content discussion, sales discussion from old series should be allowed also.
No. If there's an announcement that a series has X amount of chapters left, that's fine, and can be discussed. Discussing specific plot details needs to be in specific threads/sections, regardless if the series is potentially close to ending.I think there should also be an exception so that series that seem close to ending can be discussed (in spoiler tags of course). Because a manga ending is pertinent to discussion of the magazine as a whole, it could indicate a new round may start up or we could talk about how something ending may wind up saving another series. So if endgame developments are occurring we can talk in spoiler tahs about how close we think it is to ending, etc.
So TSS, Beast Children, and Double Taisei would all be disqualified from plot discussion under these rules, since their second volumes all released this past week.Within two volumes is considered new and can be discussed here (with spoiler tags). Anything beyond that will be considered off-topic. And by two volumes, I mean when the second volume is released, not when a series reaches 14~ chapters.
Ding ding ding! You got it.However, all three series are considered to be on the verge of cancellation by most of the forum, and don't have their own threads.

Literally typing the series name and mangahelper into Google would probably solve that issue.Tangentially, when a series is no longer eligible for plot discussion, would it be okay to link to the related thread in this thread, so people can move discussion there? I feel like there's a lot of MH posters that more or less frequent the WSJ thread exclusively, myself included, so it might help for some of us to be guided to places to have relevant discussion once it's no longer relevant in this specific thread.
Thanks for the clarification! In that case, would three volumes make more sense as a cutoff point, since serialization rounds tend to be a little longer under Nakano, even for axes?Ding ding ding! You got it.
Those series are reasonably certain to be axed. Because of this, I'll allow continued discussion on them.
Hell, using the Mangahelper search bar and clicking "search for titles only" is even easier. So that's not a bad point.Literally typing the series name and mangahelper into Google would probably solve that issue.
I felt this way about some discussions here related to TPN and KNY but since no mod mentioned anything, i just didn't mention anything.Moderator Notice:
I'm quoting this post to highlight an issue the upper staff and myself have had in regards to the topicality of this thread.
We're of the opinion that posts like this one aren't actually on-topic, and are more suited for those series' specific threads/sections.
The point of this topic is to discuss the ToC, volume sales and the health of the magazine. Now, that's not to say all specific series discussion is outright prohibited, but the discussion really does need to be focused in an overall sense, and be pertaining to the magazine itself.
So, for instance, mentioning a timeskip, when a new series starts up or when a series is cancelled, or if a series is selling well/poorly, or if a final arc is announced, or when a series gets anime information, is on-topic. But specific plot discussion or specific series' praise/criticisms is off-topic, and is better served in that series' thread/section.
Now, having said that, I will allow new series discussion (so long as it's spoiler tagged) in here. I know this may upset some, but this thread really isn't meant to be a general discussion hub for all things WSJ. This thread has a specific purpose, and this unchecked topicality has been going on for a very long time. I hope you guys understand.~ Buranchi
*sigh*Thanks for the clarification. In that case, would three volumes make more sense as a cutoff point, since serialization rounds tend to be a little longer under Nakano, even for axes?
I'll consider adding something like that in the 2020 thread. Probably in the opening post.Hell, using the Mangahelper search bar and clicking "search for titles only" is even easier. So that's not a bad point.
That said, sometimes some explicit direction/encouragement helps? Like, I have all the tools to further explore the forum at my disposal, and yet I've barely ventured outside my Watched list up till now. I'm just wondering if I'm not the only person like that, and it would help spread the forum's activity if we even only did that once per series.

There needs to be a trend of issues before a sticky is applied.Think you should sticky this along with the TOC post just so that people who are viewing this thread two days from now and just skip to the last page to see whats the latest discussion can also see this.
The point to of working and improving your story is usually to try to attract the readers and make them support you.Taisei is like a good example about how it doesn't matter if you improve your manga a lot, readers will probably still not support you, which is a shame, because what is the point of working and improving your manga if will still be ignored?
While I agree that it's a shame, there is still a point to doing this in the Jump environment ; if Shueisha sees the quality in your work when you get axed, they'll be more likely to fast-track you on developing a new series for the magazine. We're probably saying goodbye to Taisei soon, but I'm really confident we'll see Fukuda again within the next 2 years.Taisei is like a good example about how it doesn't matter if you improve your manga a lot, readers will probably still not support you, which is a shame, because what is the point of working and improving your manga if will still be ignored?
