Damn, you beat me to the punch. I hope they’re putting all this to the Shonen Jump vault because IMO this could actually be a really good initiative to somehow preserve the flops and get them out to another market.
Most of these series are actually already in the SJ Vault!

The only series on that list that isn't fully available on the app already is Robot x Laserbeam, which currently only has the first three chapters up. Also I think Red Sprite is missing an epilogue chapter or something.

I hope those get filled in along the digital releases, though! I've been pretty curious about RxL.

I wonder what prices will they put these series and how many sales are they expecting for them to make. I mean, they're already translated and edited, but there's still effort in compilating everything, making logotypes for the series, editing covers and stuff. Curious how it all will turn out.

Viz Digital Releases: Red Sprite, Love Rush, Hi-Fi Cluster, Yui Kamio, The Last Saiyuki, ne0;lation, Gokutei Higuma, Stealth Symphony, Robot x Laserbeam... AXE FIESTA.

Stealth Symphony, Red Sprite, ne0lation...wow viz has recognized greatness so buying these. Each in their own way are some of the best pieces of writing in the magazine.

So does this confirm that Yui is getting axed? A digital only release while being together with...well. Not really a pleasant group to be in.

Glad Viz is releasing all volumes of the flops, even if digital only.

This explains a lot.

The fact Viz only omitted Chainsaw Man from the list pretty much gives it away that the print release announcement is coming at some point. Yay!

I think all it means is Viz doesn't have faith in it doing well if they went through the effort of a physical release but they might as while do a little extra effort of compiling it. They have exact readership data for every Jump series now after all not just what people's 4 favourite series of the week were so they can see if people here actually care about Yui. Plus we already know if stuff is doing alright here despite Japan's reception they'll give it a physical release based on School Judgment.

I always thought Viz gave Gakkyu Houtei a more special treatment (which included the print release) because it came from Hikaru/Death Note/Bakuman artist. It was always more likely that it would sell well enough internationally (and be initially better received in both English and Japanese Jump) rather than a random newbie from a random mangaka.

P.S. Now that we touched upon that manga, I really liked that it was able to break the fourth wall sometimes, though it is a shame it went out with a massive potential but lackluster execution.

I thought Gakyuu Hotei worked pretty well for it's length, right as the initial freshness of the setting was wearing off it started the process of ending, and as a result had pretty good pacing overall. It's a series where if you read it without knowing it was cancelled, you might think it was just intended to be short since it wraps up so nicely.

Another cancelled series I thought wrapped up pretty satisfyingly is Love Rush, it's still clearly a quickly cancelled ending but the girl he got together with in the end actually had a natural-feeling character arc as a result. The other main girl not so much but in regards to the ending girl she had surprisingly well paced character development when you judge it all together.

With most cancelled series when I finish them it usually feels like it was either wasting time pretending it's not ending until its too late ('and the adventure continued!'), or they introduced too much so that it's impossible to rush it all for a decent finale, but with those two upon finishing them I was pretty satisfied with how they ended.

I watched this video today. It's not from a WSJ mangaka but since it's very related to manga and mangaka, I think it's pretty fair to post here to show how a mangaka works. On a weekly publication here, since his work is from Shonen Magazine with Kanojo, Okarishimasu, which also coincides with WSJ for obvious reasons as it's the same schedule.

Considering that his current manga makes about 50-70k, he has two houses and they're quite great (with 4 assistants) I wonder how much he makes since I didn't think that a mangaka with this kind of sales would have this kind of financial condition. lol

That's a really nice studio. And good to get some concrete info on assistants.

"So he usually has 4-5 assistants come in every Wednesday, but some mangaka hire 10 assistants on a shift basis. It really depends on each mangaka, and how they like to run their studio."

He doesn't own 2 houses. He rents out an apartment & only the first floor of his house is used for his workspace. Anyway, I won't use this video as being representative. Who knows how much he's left with after paying his assistants, tools & ofc taxes at y/e

True, my bad. But from what I saw from studios of other mangaka, it isn't much different. I doubt that most that have established series don't have money even without an anime.

He already has a finished manga that was doing quite well (tho I don't think it got anime adaptation). So I think he is already a veteran and doesn't represent every other mangaka out there.

From what I remember he has one cancelled manga and the other he has is AKB48 which he was the artist only. Of course he's a veteran and not his first work but I guess I wasn't expecting that idk. haha

I'm not particularly sad it ended, but it was an ok Ace Attorney parody, and it kinda filled the mystery genre spot in the magazine which is almost always empty and that gave us the readers some welcomed variety

the biggest missed potential this manga had is if it lived we might have lived in a world where Platinum End doesn't exist :XD
