Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

new numbers

MHA: 25 million
AA : 2 Million
yuuna : 3.6 million

Jigokuraku: 1.6 million
Is 3.6 include vol 19? If it is then a little bit troublesome (i don’t think so since volume isn’t released yet?)

if it is then Jump stops giving it 250,000 first print

There is also Hina Change, but I am pretty sure nobody here is reading it anymore (or even read it at all).
I do read it. Really like it.

As a gay reader, the fact that there aren’t gay MCs doesn’t bother me at all. This is the kind of society I’ve grown up in. I can’t even say “I got used to it” since there has never even been the chance to get used to something which never existed in first place, or that rarely does. Blue Flag is the only example that can come to my mind, and although I much appreciate it since it’s something different and fresh, I just don’t care whether the main lead is straight, gay or bi. It would probably be a plus for me if they were, but since this is not the case, I just don’t care. Also I would never want some readers to be bothered by the fact that a character is gay therefore dropping the series, especially if I want that manga and author to be successful. As sad as it is, that’s just how things are. I much prefer reading a manga with no gay characters than a manga that uses tropes to make fun of our community (ex: gay characters are in 90% of cases represented as a joke by having boys wearing girls’ dresses or being ultra muscular with feminine voice or personality, which disgusts me most of the time because they don’t represent most of us, me included). Although some gay jokes are well-written and thought out, most are not. Also, Japan is still very close minded about that matter, or better, they stay silent about it. It’s like a taboo outside of the manga world. Time will pass and society will change. Whatever, I read the manga for the plot or the characters’ development. In a romance that might be more appreciated such development (ex: Blue Flag), but in Shounen manga I just don’t care about it.

What makes you so sure they aren't?
Like or not but most people maybe expect shippers don't consider that character gay becouse lack of gay hints and majority people are straight.
If Tanjiro suddenly started blushing around Inosuke in the next chapter, do you think people would stop following the series?
I think that would be some angry youtube video and wild disccussion on social media.
You're sounding a little racist/sexist here. Surely not all Japanese men are close-minded bigots.
Still some men don't like gays espacially gay male and I don't mean japanse men but men overall. Check youtube.

You really think Japan wants to use China as their moral compass?
Money. I heard some Hollywood movies want adds some gay characterss but they worry about China censorship.

And roughly half of the readers are women anyway.
Even if true Editor in interview about target audience always talk about targets boys demographic. For example recent female editor and 'heart of boy'.

Keep in mind that most of the time we get circulation numbers they are announced on wraparounds so, yes, it includes the new volumes. 250k first print for Yuuna right now would be extreme overprinting given that the last volume only sold 65k in 3 weeks. Not to mention the fact that no Yuuna volume showed up in Oricon's full list of Jump volumes and the cutoff to that was 110k. I expect this volume to sell even less than the last one.

It's a lot easier when you haven't been grinding out a weekly ongoing serialization.
I don't know about that. First LCPs of other manga didn't look as great as Zipman's for me. But just look for yourself.

Or course I don't consider them gay as long as I don't know their orientation. But you are acting as if them being straight is a confirmed fact, which it isn't.

Wouldn't that only make the series more popular? Or at least more well-known?

Some people on YouTube think Hitler was right. That doesn't mean most of the population are Nazi's.

But women generally don't have as much of a problem with gay relationships, so that's less people complaining.

Just because things are that way and it's just the way it is doesnt mean we need to be complacent and apathetic about it and accept it as its. We could at least express desires to see small and slight changes. Your joke point for example, I think creators have slowly grown more aware of the feelings of people that some have strayed away from those portrayals or jokes in more recent works.

Any series can survive as long as it's interesting.

What makes you so sure they aren't?

Granted, Deku and Asta have girl crushes (which still doesn't guarantee they are straight, but close enough), but as far as I can remember Tanjiro, Luffy, Senku and Hinata never expressed romantic interest in anyone. You're just making assumptions here.

If Tanjiro suddenly started blushing around Inosuke in the next chapter, do you think people would stop following the series?

You're sounding a little racist/sexist here. Surely not all Japanese men are close-minded bigots.

And roughly half of the readers are women anyway.

Including Yui Kamio, three. Four if we count the girl from Mitama as the main character (she has at least three times more screentime than Mitama).

If we can have 20% women, surely there's room for one gay guy.

You really think Japan wants to use China as their moral compass?

So?

It's not like they will stop liking the series when there are actual gay relationships in it. Quite the opposite.

That'd be cool. Though Jump+has been using gay main characters for quite a while already.
Women can be homophobic as well, they aren't different beings and there's tons of examples out there. And women aren't half of WSJ, we have no sources for that as the only thing we ever got was numbers for some WSJ series, not the overall magazine.

I mean most people would be more 'surprised' if character would be gay than straight.
Wouldn't that only make the series more popular? Or at least more well-known?
Yeah I must admit.
Some people on YouTube think Hitler was right. That doesn't mean most of the population are Nazi's.
Yeah, but maybe that's just me but I think people overestimate how people are open minded. For example I find this.

Well, we can talk about it all that we want, but that don't change the fact that:

We are talking on the west for a japanese product
We are talking about it on a forum
We don't buy WSJ

There's much more motives that don't influence than the contrary. We at the end of the day are just talking to each other. And the same would be true if this conversation was on twitter or other places.

This is also true, but I’m not saying that I don’t partecipate to gay events that try to fight for our rights, cause I actually do it everyday and every time I hold hands with my boyfriend (even if it’s something small, I’m contributing to normalize it to other people). But I live in Italy, and italian culture is very different from Japanese culture. The change has to be made in Japan first, from that country’s inside.

You're delusional if you think that most people are accepting of LGBT. It's a better situation than decades ago but still terrible in most countries in the west, worse on Asia in tons of countries (and if you think about it, Japan is surprisingly better than the rest of Asia, even more with how many LGBT manga is out there).

You just need to see the pride day to see how there's tons of people who are bothered by it. I even saw one day a guy saying that it should have a day for "anti-LGBT/normal people". Hell, I have a president on Brazil that said tons of homophobic things and was elected president, much like his followers think the same.

Here in Italy there’s already something like this. Of course we are talking about South Italy, but it’s happening. And (of course) we are also talking about catholic people. I even heard there’s also a new therapy that works with stuff such as prayers, etc... so yeah brain washing.
We also must not forget that some months ago in Russia some gay people were sentenced to death and assassinated

Everyone, discussing how bad LGBT rights are in different countries is starting to become off-topic.

Keep this particular issue about WSJ manga specifically. Thank you.

I kinda agree, though I kinda liked ne0lation one.

It is weird to see Beast Children having a nice LCP despite having some bad art in general.
Also, you can notice that the Taisei mangaka improved a lot in drawing faces between Ch.1 and Ch.27.

Shuiesha should change their name to Clowniesha then. Overprint it at least for the last 5 volumes (250k each), but more money for Tadahiro. Oh well, 4 more volumes to end for that nice 4 million then.

Anyway, since I’ve never asked about it, what does ToC stand for?
