Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

KNY18 is currently trending in JP twitter
Lol this is getting ridiculous now. Do even OP volumes trend when they come out?

At this point, I'm starting to think KNY might be #1 next year again lol. It will be #2 at least for sure but the possibility of it being #1 is not a stretch. Also, Jump is getting ready for the boost the panel in Jump Festa might have on JJK (Hope it happens).
With the content kimetsu has.. true.. kimetsu is gonna be on the top for an long time

Assuming KNY ends next year, It would be sweet if the series ranks number 1 in Oricon's both overall and per volume ranking in 2020.

Remember when Yuuna was outselling Kimetsu in their first few volumes? Who knew the biggest hit of the decade would come out of that serialization batch

It shows how with a good anime, even S8 could become a million seller.

At this point it's unsure if Samurai 8 will even get an anime, once TSS leaves next week it'll probably be ranking dead last every issue. It needs to survive long enough to get an anime first.

Like I imagine there were studios showing interest the moment it was announced but the sheer underwhelmingness of its performance probably turned some away.

Ugh.
People REALLY need to stop putting all the praise on an anime studio when the base material and story is what literally drives the attention and hype.

BC didn't sell as much because it wasn't good enough for people to get hyped about past a certain audience.
MHA sold only so much because that was what it was good for. The hype around MHA was surreal when it released and it still had a great anime. But the story's limitation limits it's growth and peak. Same with TPN.

KNY appealed a large number of audiences at once and a well done anime just helped get that across. Credit should go to main reason, which is the manga and its story and characters.

Isn't it more like everyone's praising the anime BECAUSE it helped raise its profile, of what was already a good work?

Credit should go to Nozomu Abe. The scenes he created are what made KNY so popular. Shueisha and Gotogoue should give 50% of all KNY related profit to him, because without him KNY wouldn't have become this big.

people have been crediting the quality of the adaptation. As we've seen with stuff like Quintuplets an out of the park adaptation isn't really needed for a massive boost though. I'm sure the anime did help get people to check the manga out but if the base story wasn't good no one would go buy the manga after they finished the anime.

Considering how few adaptations of Jump+ we got since it began (less than 5 with more than 60 established manga), I highly doubt we'll see much more, maybe with Spy x Family being the exception.
We won't see much more since most titles are hardly successful. It's safe to say SxF & Jigokuraku will get their animes. Both series are top sellers in Jump+ so I dont see why they wont.

I do & the biggest hit of the decade still goes to AoT.

TSE now in MANGA Plus.

And so, the new MANGA Plus schedule should be this one, with 1 series left? Who knows, since they're picking up a shitton of stuff, anything can happen. Got the SQ ones right tho, so should work.

I was wondering if they'd ever add that, I guess now's the perfect timing to start from the newest chapter.

If we are praising someone from the anime staff then it should be Toshiyuki Shirai who directed/storyboard/draw all the animation layout for EP19, He also did the storyboard for EP4 where the boost began to increase greatly.

Don’t get me wrong. I think the manga itself is good, and I think a boost would have happened regardless, but the anime definitely took the boost to the caliber that it did. Especially all the hype and buzz around episode 19 of the anime.

Sure, sometimes you get cases like Tokyo Ghoul, where the anime isn’t that good, but a huge boost still happens. But cases very from anime to anime, and adaptation to adaptation. And how people are exposed to the anime.

I think it shouldn’t be underestimated how good of an adaptation Kimetsu was. MHA as a great adaptation for the most part, but Kimetsu’s adaptation blows it out out the park in terms of consistent sakuga animation like every episode, soundtrack, cinematography, atmosphere, and the series just has a plain cinematic look to it. It probably has one of, if not the, best Jump adaptations ever in terms of pure production quality. Idk if Black Clover would have exploded to the levels of Kimetsu(probably not), but if it had an adaptation at even half the quality of Kimetsu I’m sure it would have saw a way bigger boost than what we’re seeing now.

God, I wish the MHA and TPN anime had not shit background art. It especially hurt the latter in terms of the adaptation, and while the former's was stylized a bit to fit with the comic book aesthetic, compare the TV series with the new Heroes: Rising movie coming out and the difference in quality is like, night and day.

Still, congrats to Kimetsu's major success. I'm predicting a million a month at minimum.

I mean, was AoT's first season particularly remarkable in terms of animation quality? And look at what that became.
