Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Not really as Japan still is the biggest market by far for manga.

I mean other Asian markets like China and Southeast Asia (Korea is a major one). It's weird that Chinese market is only a third of French market when you compare their population.

I mean, it makes sense. China is infamous as a country that will ban and/or censor anything which conflicts with government beliefs in some way, so most popular manga I imagine wouldn't fly over there. And Korea has a long, very complicated history of hatred towards the Japanese ontop of being pretty censorship happy themselves. Boichi even went on record saying that he moved to Japan because the Korean comic market being virtually dead.

Ehm, I should clarify my point on Korea. They are forth biggest market after Japan, NA, France.
I think it has something to do with pirating and economic situation.

Also, from that tweet, Korea comic scene ain't dead. They are the main competitor against manga with their webtoon (funny how Japanese publishers don't even care about US comics at all).
So when Boichi said Korea comic's dead, he maybe only talked about the high quality printed one.

I always figured Boichi was referring to print comics, which are pretty much dead here. Webtoons are massive but they don't strike me as his style.

On a different note, when abouts will the next Jump GIGA run be happening?

End of this month. Ryo Ishiyama and Kento Matsuura will be making returns.

Yeah. The pirating is likely affecting markets more than censorship.

Also, I also don't know how it is the censorship in Korea, but I don't think webtoons are affected for this.

Dailies for 12.13

KNY 18 down to #25, but volumes 1-3 and 17 at the Top 10 with volume 13-16 in the Top 15 and the rest of the backlogs still Top 40...
MHA 25 down to #19, probably with the influx of new releases...

Prediction for week 2: KNY 18 100k-120k, MHA 25 115k-130k

Imagine the sales of a new Kimetsu volume without severe stock issues.

Are there any recent age/gender demographics breakouts for Kimetsu's recent explosive growth? I'm assuming there probably isn't but I'm just trying to get an idea of who exactly in the country is buying hundreds of thousands of each volume of this series per week for months on end. Is it sweeping throughout school systems, blowing up with young adults, striking a chord with fujos, or simply all of the above?

I read somewhere the main readerbase in the explosion is middle-aged women.

It was on the news when volume 18 got released and apparently the series is super popular with women in their 30s and 40s. It was the only demographic mentioned but it probably has found success with many others.

That's really interesting to hear, but it helps explain how these enormous backlog sales can stay steady after so long. I wonder if Weekly Shonen Jump total magazine sales will also improve as a result of Kimetsu's explosive popularity?

Doubtful. More people follow by volume than by magazine nowadays. The Kimetsu volumes are about three volumes behind the current point of serialization as well, and with the final battle ongoing it's impossible to jump in.

Well, we can have information about the main demographic of Kimetsu no Yaiba here:

The ratio male:female is 4:6

The main age for the audience is 10s and 20s. So, not middle age.

PS: The manga was released only until Volume 15 when this information appear.

Yeah I can see why just like HunterXHunter and Hitman Reborn the majority of the main cast are male characters

They're really saying screw you to the anime-onlys aren't they? :D
That second PV is beyond hype. I didn't watch the first one but I'll definitely watch this one. They are both canon too which is nice to know

Then that's pretty much before the explosion.
