Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Agravity Boys had more people giving it votes in the Poll than people saying nice things about it in this thread. I don't think a similar outcome for Mitama Security's debut would be that far fetched.

Also, I think you're downplaying Mitama's initial reception. I made a post after Mitama Security's debut saying I thought it was hilarious and nine people Liked it. If all of us voted for Mitama that week, it would have tied with Agravity Boys' debut this week.
I'm not saying is impossible, but these two mangas had a much more "stronger" reception, be positive or negative, and people talking/caring than Mitama Secureity that was very "okay, next manga...", and i remember you being almost the only one saying it was hilarious and etc.

That's true, it doesn't need to be a super detailed discussion about plot, but a more superficial where it doesn't really spoil things, just vague stuff should be allowed, at least after the results, the non plot discussion thing is a bit too much restrictive sometimes.
Sure, vague stuff like remove context from a chapter to just explosion and sex.

Stop rewriting history, I liked that chapter as well and there were more people than just me and him liked it

From what I recall from Mitama's initial couple chapters, the reception ranged from pretty neutral to people really enjoying it. I personally fell on the neutral side for maybe the first 4 or 5 chapters until it really started to win me over. Agravity Boys, on the other hand, was much more divisive, with not as many people taking a middle of the road opinion on it. Overall, I would say chapter 1 of Mitama seemed to get a slightly better reception here than Agravity did, but the difference wasn't too significant.

Yeah, I think it's a little counterproductive to have a poll about current chapters and... not being able to discuss them and why they are in each position
Sorry, but no, that's not going to happen. You guys are just going to have to be (extremely) vague with your commentary.

Part of the reason why the new topicality rule was inacted was to lessen my workload. All the established series have dedicated staff assigned to their sections/topics.

You can't expect one mod to do the job of several simultaneously. I realize it's inconvenient for everyone, but that's just how it's going to be.

Given the nature of gag comedy, comedy is really a difficult genre to work with and given that each person has a different preference of comedy, its common to see this series have a very mixed reception, specially in early chapters.

Personally, I see Agravity Boys having an early reception same as Mitama and David-kun got here, its probably Japan from the last gag series that it was almost hated on this forum. We just need to see if it can gain a more positive reception here as the previously 2 mentioned got after some more chapters.

Speaking of Japan, i find incredible that Manga Plus still translating the series when they could just ignore it and i doubt many people would care, 41 chapters released and not even 60k views, i remember thinking they would just leave the manga after got moved to Saikyo,

There's only a couple chapters of I'm From Japan every I think 2 months? Translating it doesn't require much effort, and having them drop something because it's not popular enough wouldn't be a good sign. Series already get cancelled in Japan from low popularity, we don't need an addition type of cancellation happening with official translations too.

Fan scans (especially the big groups that often go for wsj stuff) sometimes drop series if not enough people are reading it, or delay the releases, or put on hiatus unless they find a new translator, and for me personally part of the appeal of a service like manga+ is having consistent translations where I don't need to worry about the series being dropped or delayed or put on hiatus.

Gag series in particular rarely get much english translations by fans and even if they do they're very rarely complete, often just being either the first few chapters, last few, or some random ones in the middle the scan group liked. Even if it's not popular personally I'm glad we can finally have proper, full series translations of this whole genre that we've never really gotten to see much before.

I'm not saying they should drop, when i said "incredible" it's exactly because i think its nice that they still doing when they could just pretend the manga ended and would 100% get away with it, but to counter the nice thing they do the stupid thing of deleting chapters of a manga with such small number of readers instead of letting everything there to when someone gets interested :S

A trend I'm noticing is that we're constantly getting tie votes.

I'm not sure how we deal with those unless we increase the amount of times people can vote. But, I'm not sure I want to go down that route either.
I think the only real way to beat that is tiering the votes by 1st, 2nd and 3rd place votes, but I understand that it’d be impossible using the MH polling system. So someone would have to go out of their way to make a google doc or a surveymonkey poll (not sure how easy either is).

Oh no! I know this poll is kinda of a niche thing but this is a really good reception for AGravity. Seems like we'll have another uninteresting series sticking around for a while.

What places do each color represent again? Either way, it seems like Agravity Boys struck a chord with at least some niche Japanese audience out there lol. I'm actually really curious to see how the next chapter is going to play out after how the first one ended.

Depends. If they can't wait for it, they might announce it around ch.50 like it happened to a couple series in Jump. If they can wait, then somewhere around ch.80-100. So given that it is bi-weekly and just at chapter 18, the anime announcement will have to wait for a couple years. Maybe in 2021.

SXF is biweekly, so it would take much longer for it to reach 50-100.
Putting into account that it’s bi-weekly, and a good portion of the chapters are 25+ pages long, I could see an anime being announced towards the end of this year or early next year. When it’s headed towards 40ish.

Red, people that chose it as the 1st out of 3
Yellow, people that chose it as the 2nd out of 3
Green, people that chose it as the 3rd out of 3

Inb4 Agravity Boys starts placing high, followed by decent sales for Vol.1, and everyone starts saying “you know.... it’s actually not bad like I initially said”, like what happened with Jujutsu Kaisen

Agravity boys was one of the worst first chapters of a series since Sporting Salt. My God if this series takes off, especially over Zipman.
