Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

In the interview with Katayama, he said that in the first script of KnY, he was shocked with Giyuu's words to Tanjirou. He said he never saw those words being told to a MC before.

Wasn't this the same reason they turned Isayama away with his AoT prototype. They must have been kicking themselves over that and contributed to this decision. Neverland probably wouldn't exist without that either, although it's been fitting the classic Jump mold more and more with each arc.
You can see the initial prototype here.

More about the art and being able to maintain a weekly schedule, I imagine.

Oh, I've read it before and the complete lack of technical experience shows (but even back then he had a good eye for action), but that's only an issue if he insisted on being the artist too. For example didn't Riichiro Inagaki and Kaiu Shirai started out as artists too? But chances are Jump didn't even consider that with his prototype.

Honestly, can Shinuki stop with that laughing stick? It's annoying as hell and contributing nothing to the conversation.
I think pre Drumhouse arc, KnY was pretty different and had an unique, loner tone, somewhat reminding me of a toned down Guts in Conviction , Elf arc best Berserk arc, fight me..
After Drumhouse, Tanjiro met his friends and team up, thus, KnY became another "hard work, friendship, victory" manga.

So, here's a question to liven up the thread; Are you guys satisfied with Jump's current direction?
Has WSJ really changed tho? Yeah, WSJ might have formally stated that they have abandoned the motto but pretty much every series in WSJ follows that motto still in their own way.
Plus KNY is still a typical WSJ series. So are MHA or BC or JK.
CSM might be a departure but we did get Death Note from WSJ in early 2000s and HxH in late 90s which were very much unorthodox WSJ series.

Even the newer series that keep popping up. There's nothing different from them from what we have gotten in the past.

What actually is WSJ's current direction though? It's been almost two years since Jujutsu Kaisen started and since then we've had a bunch of stuff end with the only confirmed hit being Chainsawman, a series that doesn't match Jump's typical ideas or style at all.

Otherwise the new (flopped) series have all been mostly standard jump affair. They've kept doing their usual thing, starting new series from newbies trying their best to be as jump as possible, jump vets returning half-formed ideas that don't work out, a few silly gag manga, with the occasional experimental manga.

There hasn't really been a big change in direction except for letting series run for longer before cancelling them, and that makes sense schedule-wise since they've got a lot of space open to let them run longer (normally there's only 3-4 open spots for new series meaning they need to constantly shuffle out the bottom if they want more new series to start, but with 8 spots open they don't need to cancel stuff at ch 12 if they want something new).

My top-3 this week:

1. Dr.Stone
2. We Never Learn
3. Jujutsu Kaisen

Dr.Stone is being the best Jump manga in the roster for a very big amount of West fans, and chapters so good and amazing like this one or the last week one help a lot.

Once again, I loved the new chapter. I’m enjoying a lot the new series Guardian of the Witch.
It seems like I’m the only one tho lol
I loved this chapter actually. Really liking the two new characters and hoping the mangaka is attempting to go the "parallel MC groups" route.
However even if they just end up joining the trio I'm fine with that too.

Yozakura was pretty good this week, grievances aside. The bad guy's backstory does feel a little cheesy but I like how it parallels Taiyo's.

Mitama was great as always, glad to see Salmon back so soon. Probably one of my favorite chapters so far

Zipman was actually pretty good this week. The over the top action and melodrama is fun, the issue being that I'm not invested very much.

Agravity was also good, once again. Glad Saga got more time, even if he feels the least standout of the group

UxU was really good, I appreciate a bit of a breather after the past chapters. I like where this is going for the female lead's character

Mashle was good, and I'm glad because I wasn't a big fan of last week's chapter. Got quite a few laughs out of me this week

Witch Guardian was fun, I like where this is going. Still not completely sold though

Also I voted for Rikku in the Act Age poll
