Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Thats where im kinda conflicted. Its obviously not a seller anywhere near KnY or OP, but the series has high regards from kids to mangakas themselves (the many former assistants Horikoshi claims, to authors like Gege claiming to have drawn inspiration from MHA). He has interviews with the 3 biggest authors of the 2000s, an anime thats constantly in the top with ratings, many other things. Like the series's impact is alot bigger than its sales
That's actually getting me thinking, how do you guys think Kimetsu's impact will look like when it ends?

I don't remember Gege saying he got inspiration from MHA, only that he was worried about the state of WSJ after naruto/bleach ended and MHA gave him hope again that WSJ could find another big long running hit. If there is any, I don't see it.

MHA might not be a gigantic hit in Japan but its arguably their biggest international hit since Naruto, they'll never cancel it
The thing is I think MHA appeals more internationally than inside Japan. And few series I would consider gigantic sales-wise (OP, KNY, Naruto etc) but I would say it is a big hit and a reliable performer which could carry it for at least 2-3 years IMHO...

I've always believed MHA would end at 500-550ish max. Which is about the right amount of length for a generational series. Before Kimetsu exploded, MHA was still selling 500k per volume, the downward trend which coincided exactly alongside Kimetsu's sudden emergence leads me to believe this is a case of Kimetsu sucking up the rest of the market because it is the BIG THING happening for now.

Like I said before, Kimetsu going downward might happen sooner than MHA, if only because the end is near.

This. And not to mention that kids in Japan are already considering it "the manga they grew up with", just like how Kishimoto regarded DB, and Horikoshi regards The Big 3.
500 chapters seems to be the sweet spot IMHO... As much as I love MHA, I don't want it to be as long as Naruto or Bleach were... Heck, I could argue 40 volumes would be even better (400-450ish)...

As for Kimetsu, it depends if Gotogue fumbles or nails the ending... or he succumb to pressure to extend the story... I do hope he is set on ending the series as planned and not let the editors or anyone get in his ear and make it longer than it needs to be

Forgive me, but it's a somewhat absurd reasoning.

That is, what does it mean that it doesn't sell as much as OP and KNY?

No manga currently sells as much as they do, Jump or not.

They are exceptions, not the rule .....

If HeroAca continues to decline in sales, it would personally be kind of sad.
I guess you know that after a few years a series starts to drop in sales? Then drop, there are still 300-400 k copies per month, a figure that 80% of the published manga only dreams of being able to achieve.

These are getting harder and harder to find.
Kek, do you have a secret stache or do you just look them up on the fly?

btw take it with a grain of salt but should be a 70-80k week1 for csm minimum

Previously I had a very small collection, but now I'm having to look them up each time.

Also, I had heard that CSM is closer to 100k first week now.

Edit: Or not.

I think the extent of Kimetsu's true impact as a franchise will only be realised truly in retrospect once the anime hits season 2 or 3, since both its anime and manga are immensely popular. Though the extent of its current sales with just the manga already indicate that it has become quite the cultural phenomenon.

If you mean this

Your obligatory reactions to CSM's position makes my day. (Also, to give you more perspective, it's been ahead of Jigokuraku since day 1, which means it's closer to crossing 100k before falling out of the top 50.)
I don't think he meant week 1 (that would be crazy growth), just before it stops charting on oricon, which it should still be able to do next week
Backlog had all 5 volumes around 100th on shoseki which isn't super reliable but probably still accounts for about 35k

Yeah, I got it mixed up. Well, either way, I'm hoping the series isn't that far off from 100k first week.

This. I mean look at Haikyu as another example. It still sells right that amount, but it is so far from it's peak. Even AoT, which was once a million seller first week barely sells that in 5 weeks nowadays... It's hard to use OP and KNY as standards for sales as they come once in a blue moon when everything aligns...

It's definitely on its way there, maybe by next volume already

Just consider the fact that volume 4 sold 61k in 10 days and volume 5 75k in 9 days

I guess the naked Reze volume cover did it's job.

Also, just curious, how far off is CSM from surpassing Act-Age's FW numbers?

Need precise numbers but seems to be there already, AA 10 was 80k, might even have passed it considering CSM tends to do really well digitally compared to other series
