Monthly Shonen Sunday also has a manga about playing board games that did well enough to get an anime (
https://myanimelist.net/manga/69035/Houkago_Saikoro_Club) although it's more episodic but I don't think stuff like video/board/card games would be too boring in the right hands.
Hell, while it's usually virtual reality and comes from light novels there's a ton of stories essentially following characters playing competitive video games. Bofuri and Infinite Dendrogram that had anime last season are exactly that and of course SAO.
To tie this back to Jump I don't see why an e-sports manga would break hype. If the characters are playing something like Fortnite we don't need a new cast of 99 characters every time there's a new game (and it could be a death game without being edgy I guess lol). If they're playing something like Street Fighter there can be super tough battles without a character having to be stuck in the hospital when they lose (or win depending on how close it was). Hell, something like CoD we can have revenge stories unfold within the same match since people will respawn. You can still explore the character's psyche. I doubt the manga would just suddenly pan to a character mashing a keyboard or controller without giving any kind of internal dialogue or facial expression to give emotion which already happens in spokans anyway.
