whomever has the raw version of Undead x Unluck let me ask a question

Are the abilities written in English or Japanese (Kanji/Katakana/Hirigana) (Burn, Unburn, Repair, Unrepair, etc...)

Judging by the name of the series アンデッドアンラック, I'm guessing other abilities are written in similar way?

The raw I have seen was in Japanese because spoiler the UMA Language was killed by Nico so all languages were united into English but there was no English in the speech bubbles about UMA Language. Also seems there was a typo in a previous chapter where instead of "Tors" it meant "Thor".

When its big in the background ones are in english. In bubbles its UMA-katakana and for "un" is kanji with katakana reading.

Was stressed out, so I caved again and read Ayakashi. This was a standard chapter that was pretty solidly executed, IMO. Nothing eye-popping, but what was there was pretty nice.

The action was quite standard - nothing much to really write home about yet. However, I feel as if that aspect can come into it's own shortly down the line. A lot of action manga take a bit to really get going, so here's hoping that there's something interesting on that front sooner rather than later.

The art is stellar, but considering the author of the work, this is pretty much a given. Yabuki really knows how to make attractive character designs - With Suzu, it's obvious, but I also thought that male Mutsuri himself looked quite cool as well, and both of his forms complement Suzu rather well, I find.

The characters are what really jumped out to me the most, however. Matsuri and Suzu genuinely feel like they're childhood friends, with their relationship being formed and strained by their abilities to see ayakashi and the subsequent revelations that come from that. Their bits of banter that they have are endearing enough, and it was nice when they finally saw eye to eye at the end of the chapter. I'd love to see their relationship grow and develop some more. They're cute together, and they both have each other's best interests at heart. Individually, Matsuri manages to be quite cool, while only being a little dumb due to his job, and Suzu actually seems like she'll be more than just a girl to be protected, instead doing her best to help Matsuri with his problems. Shirogane himself has some fun moments as an antagonist - I like his rather petty personality and his dated mindset.

What did surprise me is the downplaying or lack of some of the usual tropes. Now, sure, this may all come in future chapters, but for now, I found it somewhat refreshing. The old man wasn't much of a pervert. The most perverted character here seems the main antagonist. There's no lucky pervert moments - I think. The in-your-face ecchi moments are quite sparse here, and when they do show up, it's not just for the sake of ecchi.

I could definitely see this starting off with a monster of the week vibe, as we slowly learn more about the world and characters, before subsequently jumping into more long form arcs. More friendly and enemy ayakashi and humans can also join the fray as well.

So, if I had to give it a rating, I'd say a 6.5 outta 10. Maybe a 7. Not the most original, but rather solid and has quote potential. We'll see where it goes from here.

I think there's a fair amount of potential for this to be a good series. The subsequent chapters will be crucial, however, as I feel that they'll either make or break the series for a lot of people. I can see many ways in which this can go well or go poorly. But for now, I'm in. I really want to like this series, and I think it can be good. It's more satisfying when a series starts off mixed and gets better over time (Undead Unluck) rather than start off strong and then fall off (Guardian of the Witch).

The 5 series I read at the moment;

1. CSM - There's something about Aki his relationship with the other two that makes me want to throw my life away to protect all 3. I really hope what is being foretold doesn't happen.
2. Mashle - Those owls cracked me up. Also how the 7th broke Lance's concentration by stating something obvious.
3. MHA - Eraser Head is a badass, always.
4. Ayakashi - So this was pretty entertaining for the most part. It took its influences from every where possible and the art was solid. But I'm not sure about the end. But we'll see how it goes from here.
5. Ghostwriter - I'm sorta getting tired of this going back and forth, tbh. Lets hope the next chapter gets more interesting. I want more time travel stuff to kick in. I don't want it to be a one time thing. But lets see.

I'm now all in with Time Paradox Ghostwriter. I think it's a very unique and compelling character study i would not have expected from a Jump manga. I really appreciate how focused it is too, but I guess that can kill the whole thing too if you arent open to the concept or attached to this kind of protagonist already. I hope the time travelling will come back to the forefront with some more complexity, otherwise it's going to become stale. I'm also sensing a dark twist coming, Aino's closeup smiles are giving me bad vibes!

My other favorites are the usuals. Undead, JJK, Act Age and Moriking. They are all on a roll and haven't had a not great chapter in a long while (or since they started serialization).
CSM barely missed the top 5. Amazing ideas, but I think Fujimoto could have executed this one even better.

Also Ayakashi Triangle is exactly the light, fun, respectable mediocrity I expected from Yabuki. Viz should already have the next 3 chapters provided to them by Shueisha for translation and editing, so them making it web only is pretty much confirmation of it quickly becoming hardcore ecchi, possibly of the yuri and monster variety, despite its tame debut.

Website only for that tameness? Viz really are prudes.
It’s possible that while the first chapter was rather tame, they may have some knowledge that in the future it’ll be much more extreme, so itheyre just starting the series off away from the app

Undead Unluck has really grown on me over this last chapters, cant wait to know about more about the other negators and the next member to come

Time Paradox has had some bumps thus far after that solid first chapter, but this last one has been better, I can see were the people that dont like Sasaki are coming from, and yeah he may not come as the most likable guy, but he isnt completely unlikable either. Aino a cutie too. Like it was said already, hope the time travelling aspect comes back soon

Looking at the pre-rankings placements for each of the new series because why not. Counting the other new series but not colour pages

Moriking --------- cover -- colour - 5 -- 3 -- 8 -- 3 -- 10 -- 3 (first rank)
Bone Collection -- cover -- colour - 7 -- 5 -- 4 -- 7 -- 5
Ghost Writer ----- cover -- colour - 6 -- 6 -- 7

Comparing them to the other 2020 series so far (might have mixed a number or two up)

Zipman -- cover -- colour - 6 -- 5 -- 7 -- 5 -- 9 -- 11 (first rank)
Agravity - cover -- colour - 7 -- 5 -- 9 -- 5 -- 8 -- 12 (first rank)
Undead -- cover -- colour - 5 -- 7 -- 8 -- 6 -- 7 -- 7 (first rank)
Mashle --- cover -- colour - 3 -- 6 --10 -- 5 -- 9 -- 7 (first rank)
Guardian - cover -- colour - 3 -- 8 -- 9 -- 11-- 5 -- 10 (first rank)

Weirdly, Ghost Writer is the only 2020 series that didn't get placed in the top 5 in its first 5 chapters. It still has 2 more pre-rankings to go though so it should be up there in the next two chapters.

Not that any of it probably means anything, since Zipman probably performed the worst in rankings overall but had similar pre-placements to Undead which has done really well so far.

That doesn't mean anything, even Higuma and The last saiyuki had good pre-rank positions and were canceled. There is no reason to discuss this.

do i have to change mine?
No, the change is just in the points of the traditional poll, each choice in that will be 3 points instead of just 1. The comment voting still the same thing.

Is that change really necessary? Like isn't it even more complicated now that the poll votes are 3 times more worth than the last two places in the written rankings?
Is just a test to see how it will play it for some parts of the results and like said in the post, to give more relevance for the traditional poll since it was just 1 point but still has more users voting than the comments, depending it on what happens we will just go back.

That UU plot did not go as I expected. Anyone got any theories why Victor already knew about days of the week several chapters ago?

GotW better not just stop in the middle of this mini-arc or I'm gonna be pissed. (And now they're flying. Why didn't you do that from the start?)

Dr Stone: You have to talk that way even in your head? Either way, great chapter. Though I'm questioning their choice of allies.

Moriking: Hey, I still remember some names from entymology! Too bad the girl never took classes, then maybe she would've closed her mouth at some point.

Mashle: Not bad, but kinda slow.

Mitama: Wait, since when can he see spirits? Also the security in this place really sucks.

Bone Collection: This was.. better than last week, at least. Maybe this series should add more absurdity.

MHA: Didn't like the shouting match with Bakugo. I feel it would've been stronger if he just followed him to fight together and they didn't question it until later.

TPN: I'm glad it wasn't just a convenient coincidence, but it kind of feels like this should've been the second to last chapter. The ending itself isn't bad, but still feels a little cut short for some reason (maybe because they never mention the old guy).

TPGW: I'm glad he stopped just shy of running her Jump through the copy machine, but it's becoming painful to see him get praised so much for stealing (without much guilt this time, even).

Yozakura made me laugh, don't even know why. I'm actually hoping this stays around now.

Holy smokes, I just caught up with Undead Unluck and it's like people already mentioned here, the world-building is insanely good. The whole manga is filled with so much creativity, so many different ideas which go surprisingly well together... I'm simply impressed. Sorry Mashle, got a new favourite manga!
