Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Except KnY didn't start outselling OP from one week to the next, it was a process that lasted for several months and that we observed week after week through its backlog growing at an enormous rate, and you should know it since you've been here for a while

Sales are not magic, those kingdom readers are not going to randomly come out of nowhere, if Kingdom was going to have such an absurd sales growth from a volume to the next, you would've been able to observe and predict it through its backlog sales, and while Kingdom's backlog is good, great even, it's nowhere near as big as it would need to be for it to have such a massive ridicolous growth from one volume to the next

Kingdom will beat OP for the year but not on an individual volume

In your opinion, how will they do for Jujutsu volume 0?

Will they carry it in the first season? OAV aside?

I haven't read it but is there somewhere they could easily fit it in the main story? Demon Slayer did Kanao's backstory which was only a volume extra and Nisekoi did that magical girl spinoff so it's not unheard of for seasonal shows to adapt content not completely part of the main story.

The story of Kanao was also quite a short chapter, volume 0 is four chapters of over 40-50 pages each ....

They can always include parts of the volume into ongoing scenes and action sequences to give that character/arc more depth. They don't necessarily need to adapt the whole thing.

I have been thinking about this for a while but why does jump still print 3.2 milion copies for one piece when it's sells 1.5 milion in a month after release.

Do the stores just put the extra copies in storage? Do they not care about the lost profit and just keep ordering from jump the same amount?

Because they know the other copies will eventually sell, and they want to make sure they always have plenty on hand.

Just saw this in Twitter and I wanted to share it. All My Hero Academia Shonen Jump covers.

Gosh, I still love that #28/2018 cover (the black/white cover with the accentuated green), it's just so stylish.

Was looking at an old issue of Jump I own and it seemed they did a campaign where they were promoting Black Clover, Samon, and Mononofu, made me wonder do you think they'll do something like that with Mashle, Undead and Yozakura? Incidentally, what were Mononofu's sales, obviously it got axed but they must've had some reason for including it.

Mononofu (Shoseki):
- Volume 1: 19,005 (7 days) > 3,498 (total: 22,503)
- Volume 2: 13,775 (3 days) > 9,750 > 3,865 (total: 27,390)
- Volume 3: 21,225 (7 days) > 5,427 > 3,191 (total: 29,843)
- Volume 4: 17,788 (4 days) > 8,160 (total: 25,948)
- Volume 5: 14,192 (3 days) > 11,130 > 3,318 (total: 28,640)

Mononofu was a weird case, most of time the rankings were pretty decent (just checked again here), even some top 5 positions, a good number of color pages and sales as you can see weren't bad, the final volume even got some talk despite the already cancelation and sold more because had nudity (nipples), so this is why it was included because it was popular for a while but for some reason the manga went like Kurogane, didn't reached full potential and was canceled, it had 43 chapters so the story had like a "finished" vibe instead of just cut in the middle.

Funny how Ikezawa’s Mononofu and Kurogane would be considered hits for Jump standards nowadays

When exactly did the author of Kurogane and Mononofu publicly trashtalk Medaka Box and the Jump editors again? After Kurogane or after Mononofu?

That would probably be during Kurogane, since that was when it ran with Medaka. Not sure about what he said but it was something about axing Medaka, no? Mononofu began two years after Medaka ended.
