Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

If JjK grows that big then I am happy for it and I am sure there would be many champagne at WSJ for that growth after the anime. ^^

The craziest thing about this is that the Kimetsu and Jujutsu backlogs pushed Black Clover out of Oricon in two weeks. Jesus Christ. People are gonna hold it against Black Clover, and while the series is declining, this is very uncharacteristic, it's just that Jujutsu and Kimetsu keep dominating.

Was there anything like this when HeroAca had it's first boost or two? Cause depending on how long this keeps up, JJK could potentially pass MHA's peak. All it needs to do is break 600k in 4 weeks.

...we're probably going to be seeing so many more stories about slaying demons in the future, aren't we. Especially if Chainsaw man gets in on the action.
I think it doesn't have to be that exclusive in exorcism.
I think people want to see more drama in these Bshonens and other current manga.
for example, in both kimetsu and jujutsu, the authors have no mercy on the characters, when it is time to kill, they kill.
One of the main criticisms of one piece is "Oda does not kill characters". Although he killed the important character, after that he no longer had any striking deaths in one piece.
I'm not saying that all jump manga should kill your characters, but it could create tense moments like kimetsu no yaiba or jujutsu.

I mean Kingdom, TPN all got multiple boosts for various reasons.
JJK's only gets better, story wise, as it goes on. It really doesn't have a that many breaks in between when it comes to the action. So I can definitely see it getting boosts with future seasons.

It looks like WSJ learned from KnY's success, handing over the manga adaptation to a good studio. Look at JJK now that the anime is held by Mappa, compare it to Black Clover.

I hope that in the future WSJ will be more selective and not continue to rely on Perriot

I mean. I’m sure JJK was likely in production, or at the very least, planned to be a MAPPA series before Demon Slayer’s explosion in popularity.

Hopefully Kinoko Nasu being a fan of Undead can influence a Ufotable anime adaptation. Imagine a potential collab with Undead Unluck and Unlimited Blade Works. A man can dream.

These backlogs (specially KnY) are truly becoming a pain in the ass when it comes to the top 50

As if the manga industry hasn't been full of series about demons since forever kkkk

It's almost like if Studio Pierrot isn't the responsible for some of Jump most popular franchises ever, and currently producing 2 very popular and lucrative Jump series xD (3 if Bleach final season is by them)

Pierrot like Toei are studios for long running series when it comes to Jump, so isn't a case of being "selective" towards studios but how they see/want a series to be produced, if it's a seasonal series they will just naturally go for studios that are used to work on seasonal stuff.

Hell, sometimes anime adaptations come about by having producers go up to Shueisha themselves and offering to adapt their work. That’s how MHA and TPN got anime, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the same was for JJK and other seasonals.

Speaking of Pierrot and Toei, it’s unlikely that Jump is just suddenly gonna cut ties with with them. Do you guys see any currently running series going to them?

I feel like Mashle or Yozakura Familywould fit for in with Toei well given their structure as series. Pretty lighthearted in nature, and they feel like they could perfectly be adapted for a long running Shonen.

Isn't World Trigger the last new IP Toei has done though? They mostly seem to be focusing on Precure, One Piece and reviving stuff (Sailor Moon, DB, Kitaro, Digimon, Dragon Quest). I would kinda be surprised seeing them pick up a new Jump series at this point.

Yeah out of the stuff that is running at the moment that isn't already adapted, Mashle and Yozakura are the only one's that I could imagine not being late night shows. That being said considering how long runners are becoming less and less frequent I'd expect them to be seasonals that aired earlier in the evening, like MHA rather than like Black Clover. Also yeah as said above it's not like Toei's been picking up a lot of new properties recently.

Phantom Seer feels like it could be a traditional long running anime by Pierrot, i also could actually see a Undead Unluck anime by Pierrot, Cop and Dolphin maybe because they produced Beelzebub, i don't really see Yozakura at all as Toei but as A1 Pictures series, if by any chance they would try to go for a long running series or 50ish, it would definitely be under Pierrot like it was with Twin Star Exorcists but Yozakura doesn't feel to me like a long running anime, the one which i could see by Toei would be Me & Roboco or Magu-chan, since they have a more "childish" feeling, it would fit in a long running anime in the morning category

My guesses for long runner are: Yozakura, Cop and Dolphin, & Roboco

UU could also be a long runner, but prob be seasonal. Mashle, Agravity, Phantom Seer I see being seasonal.
Ayakashi 100% not long running(would be funny if it was tho).

Idk about Magu-Chan and HS family, tho they could fit in a kids slot tbh. Same for Moriking but thats probably axed. OBO would probably be a seasonal but who knows lol.

This is assuming they live obviously

I see Undead Unluck working as Seasonal since I don't expect it to run for long. Yozakura I see long running mostly for how arcs are placed and how much gag there is. I see it going to A1 or Sunrise. Phantom Seer I see as seasonal. MASHLE COULD maybe be long running, but most likely seasonal. Maguchan would probably be seasonal too

Is Yozakura big enough for a studio to attempt a long runner with though? I feel like, with that level of popularity, it'd be hard for a studio to trust it'll stay popular for a year plus. It strikes me more as the kind of series that gets a split cour anime (assuming it sticks around long enough to get one of course).

like I imagine a Yozakura anime being a 13 episode series which goes up to ch 49, cutting out a lot of the one-off episodic chapters that don't add to the main plot or character development unless they're fan favourites. Maybe finishing with a teaser for s2.

Oh dear, here we go again...

So, JJK could potentially overtake MHA and TPN on series (assuming cutoff is on the 22nd, which is a more common date than the 15th), but that will depend on how the backlog continues going for the next few weeks. Haikyuu is almost certainly a no unless it starts to really go off in the next few weeks, but for now it's looking more or less stable.

As for KnY...these few weeks don't really matter for 2020 (aside from funny prospects like KnY #1 overtaking OP#61's yearly in 2020 backlog sales alone, which is scary and looking likely as of now), but its final weeks of 2020 will give a strong indication on how the race for first next year will shape up, as it could pull a lead that will be very hard to surpass unless a series majorly blows up.

KNY will stay #1. Anyone saying otherwise is simply wrong. There's not any way it will slow down to the point of not being #1 especially with the 4 million sales the last volume will generate.

So there is a chance MHA ends the year as the sixth Jump series in sales in 2020, if Jujutsu Kaisen manages to beat it, making MHA to be below it, Kimetsu, OP, Haikyuu and Neverland.

Is interesting that while it looks like MHA is having the Black Clover situation, it isn't like that. MHA 2020 sales are actually good (I think this is like the third year with most volumes sold, not sure, but MHA will end 2020 with +5 and maybe +6 million copies sold).

I would not make a comparison with Black Clover, even in his best period he did not have sales comparable to those of Hero.
