Oda's a tease :xp

I guess that opens up some room in the top five next week. Hopefully Beelze can claw it's way back up.

Strangerataru, where'd you hear that? I don't see anywhere indicating OP would be absent...

Hokenshitsu no Shinigami looked like it could be good. Not amazing but it could be pretty good. Kinda gave me a vibe like the beginning of Bleach... wonder why...

There is no announcement on the last page of the recent chapter of OP though - jump editors failed either way <.<;

Hokenshitsu no Shinigami looks interesting n Im looking forward to its scanslation. I have read its one shot but if u guys said the mangaka has made it better in its debut, that would be more fun to read

I can't tell if chapter one is better or just different. That remains to be seen.

i say its better.

is OP really going to be taking a break again?
the constant double-page chapters were kind of annoying, but pretty amusing at the same time.

Hokenshitsu looked pretty good. A big improvement over the one-shot, especially the drawings. Could be one of those series I'm not a huge fan of but don't mind if they're successful either. As for Lilenthal... eh... I have absolutely no idea of what to expect. Seriously. Haven't bothered to read the one-shot yet, but I'm curious to know what exactly that talking dog can do.

Lilienthal looks...interesting. Maybe get some good laughs outta of it. Who knows, it could become my favorite comedy/gag manga. If there is no One Piece next week, I will cry. And I haven't read Shinigami yet (don't know if the chapter is out translated or not) but judging from the comments, it looks to be at least decent.

There isn't a translation yet. Only the one shot is available in English. The changes are kind of evident from the art. Lilienthal has boom or bust potential. It looks like it will either be great or horrible, nothing in between. The fact that the one shot was never translated makes it an even bigger wild card. If nothing else it looks different, different is always at least interesting ;)

Yeah I just kinda flipped through the one shot and it seemed pretty good, not great but something I could read weekly. I'm not expecting to really find a new favorite series in this batch but maybe I could be pleasantly surprised with their quality and be satisfied with them.

The Vomic site has their first Beelzebub vomic out It's pretty cool. They used the guy who did Komui in DGM fro Oga's voice... He did a bunch of other stuff too, but it sounds more like that. Katsuyuki Konishi.

Or just watch the stream on a video player directly, it'll probably run smoother:

I just don't see it on the next issue page. No Luffy, no OP in the "next issue" list, just...nothing.

That doesn't mean it's not in it. Everything except Naruto had a color page or something, (Kochikame is like advetising the drama), so maybe OP is just number 2 after Naruto, so Naruto got precedence. There's nothing anywhere that's said "no OP".

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

People saying that kagijin, medaka and/or akaboshi are going to be in jump till this year's end, don't know anything about jump. With jump you can never know unless you're a top series. So, let's keep the overconfidence of the preferred manga aside since wsj is a machine of ongoing cuts...

My point of view:
- Akaboshi: the anti-double arts. The anti doesn't mean any dislike but whereas double arts started very interesting and became boring and slow paced afterwards; akaboshi did the opposite thing. What looked like a bland, boring serie; has become a very interesting serie. Lemme say: I will feel more bad if akaboshi might get cancelled than I felt when double arts was.
- Medaka: not my cup of tea. I have always placed it in a balance with sket dance. It may be different or it may be the same (I don't read them, so I don't know) but those two are appealing to the same readers imo. Medaka is a victim of sket dance's success imo
- Kagijin: a new bokke? Just like bokke, this week's chapter and upcoming one will decide if it'll survive or not. If people appreciate it then it'll survive, if not then it'll die. I am not impressed at this moment (don't forget the new evil villains won't always work) but I won't judge it yet. Trema gave kagijin good points because I found the character very cute :p

Anyway, there's been a cut a last week and there's a new serie this week. A new round of axes will come, imo, after 5 issues I think. Let's wait and see but akaboshi has my full support now

On these three, I definitely think that Akaboshi going to survive on next round because the escape of bottom 5 will have positive appeal to the editors.

Medaka is in bad situation, right now. I agree with you that Medaka is victime of Sket Dance. Medaka has very high chance that going to end on next round of cancelation. Plus, I think most of axed series don't pass twenty chapters, unless it did successful on early, like Barihaken and Asklepios.

We still don't know whether Kagijin will be next Bokke-san or next Asklepios. If Kagijin stay on bottom on next issue, then it is positive that it'll going to be axed. But if it rises, Kagijin might has a chance to become next Akaboshi, or maybe not.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

I don't really think any series should be compared and called the next "whatever". Each series should be looked at independently and instead of trying to figure out what series it resembles or which one it will behave like. Even though some series can start off extremely similar (Sket Dance, Medaka Box), most drift apart pretty fast plot wise. It just seems like a waste of time to debate whether or not a series is the next anything or not.

I rather say Medaka is a victim of being a not so good series.

Thing is that any series that is not on the "main next issue" section is usually in the box on the same page listing everything else. Since there is no Luffy in the "main next issue" section and I don't specifically see "One Piece" in the box, then I assume until further notice that it's on break for a week. I hope I'm wrong though.

Edit: Here's what I see:
-Next Issue (main): Lillinthal, Naruto, KochiKame, Sket, Shinigami
-Next Issue (box): Bleach, Gintama, Beezle, Anedoki, Inumaru, Kagijin, Bakuman, Psyren, Reborn, Toriko, Medaka, Kuroko, Akaboshi, Mago, Wagimania, Jaguar

For a major series like OP, it's bizarre to forget it unless it's on break.

I found it weird that akaboshi has been anounced to have it's first tank while Medaka with more chapters has not. Perhaps Medaka is going to be canceled in upcoming isues. I don't know if series that are cancelled so early get tanks but I wouldn't sell volumes of something unpopular.

Every series gets tanks. The volume for Medaka will come out most likely in October...if not then November.
